“I love you John Proctor.” A simple, romantic confession to those who have never seen or read the Crucible. However those who have been exposed to The Crucible will know that those words are laced with jealousy. How one may view the crucible is decided by their good judgement, however how they view it might make-or-break their experience of “getting to know” the characters.
Thesis
Although many would argue that the written version of Arthur Miller’s play, The Crucible, in viewing the many versions, the movie does the most accurate job of portraying the characters and the setting where the events took place. Though there are many characters in The Crucible, John Proctor is one of the most important characters. Do not forget his name because he will “never have another on in his life.” John is a main role in the story and has a conflict – a “romantic” one – with Abigail Williams another character in The Crucible. He fights to stop the madness which is the witch hunting and hanging of the innocent all because of some stupid lie and the lust/greed of a young girl, He and the young girl, however, are not successful and do not get what they desire.
The actor Daniel Day-Lewis went to great lengths to perfect his role as John Proctor himself. Daniel as of late has “thrown in the towel” and retired from his acting career.
