Before his assassination, he had a plan for reconstruction in where he would pardon the south and allow them to reintegrate the Union. It would only have been possible if 10% of the voters took an oath of loyalty, but due to his dead, the 10% plan couldn't be carried out. Ronald Reagan of the United States under the chairmanship from 1981 to 1989. Despite the fact that the country is facing serious economic and social problems, has been popular throughout most of the period when he was in office. During his presidency, he and his administration have worked continuously to build its image as a true American. Partly because of his image, the public ignored the rise in unemployment, wage cuts, the increase of people living in poverty, an increase in children born outside of marriage, and a growing number of people in prison. Reagan was popular because the audience focused on his image and his promises, not what actually happens.
Within the past 30 plus years, there have been three main things that either have or still currently impact our society and generation in America as a whole; Modern Day Immigration, the concept of “Reaganomics”, and the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11th, 2001 (also known as 9/11). For a variety of reasons, these things have turned into either political, economic, or societal issues (or often times a combination of the three). Over the years, these things have helped shape society into what we know and see it as today, for better or worse.
Abraham Lincoln, a name who many know, was the first US president to ever be assassinated. Lincoln was elected to the House of Representatives in 1846 and he began his term the following year. Originally, he was not popular among the voters and he decided to not go for reelection but in 1861 Abraham Lincoln was elected to be the 16th president of the United States. Shortly after the election, seven southern states seceded and created the Confederate States of America causing the Civil war. Several years after the election, John Wilkes Booth successfully killed Lincoln. Therefore, with Lincoln being the first president to be assassinated, America was shocked upon hearing of his death but his passing tested the country and the strength of our constitutional plan for success.
On June 28, 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie were shot dead in Sarajevo by Gavrilo Princip, a member of a Serbian nationalist group called the Black Hand. The Black Hand was derived from a secret Serbian terrorist organization called the Narodna Odbrana, which worked towards the unification of all South Slavs in an independent, sovereign country called Yugoslavia. The Narodna Odbrana was created because South Slavs living in Serbia, as well as in Bosnia and other Slavic provinces, felt a strong nationalistic desire to unify all the members of their cultural group in a new country called Yugoslavia. The Black Hand’s commitment to Serbian nationalism led it to replace the Narodna Odbrana, while adopting its purpose, organization, and terrorist philosophy. Members of the Black Hand, driven by their desire to die as martyrs, assassinated Franz Ferdinand to quickly set the tone for a revolution meant to weaken the powerful state of Austria-Hungary and unite all South Slavs in a Yugoslavic nation.
