Courage Essay - Rough Draft What is courage? Is it bravery, or is it something that keeps you going? For my parents, courage was just to survive. Being born during a war torn economy system is difficult, but you wouldn’t know until you’ve experienced it. Starting out from absolutely nothing then working your way through life. There was no hope, no goals, nor any ambitions. Giving up was one of the options, but that never occurred in their minds. My mother was born in 1972, when the war was still continuing. Even though my born in the capital of Vietnam where it was away from the battlefield, it still affected her. Her family had enough money to send her to school until the 8th grade; after that, they couldn’t afford it anymore. Her clothes were made from other shirts and pants being cut and sewed together. Her food was always potatoes and rice, nothing else; she was always searching for more things at dump yards. Some of her friends had it far worse than her, some didn’t even have a home. She never had any goals such as college, but it never stopped her from giving up. When my father was born, he literally started out from scratch. His mother had to abandon her house and became a refugee. When my father was old enough to do things such as walking by himself and asking for money; nobody would give him any because they all claimed him as a traitor.
