Good evening Mathew, great post. As you stated in your above respond, i agree with the Routine Activities Theory (RAT) which involve two elements being presents inorder for a crime to occur. There must be a crime target and an offender (Clarke, 2009). when it comes down to motor-vehicle theft regarding this theory, it could be prevented. There have been many cases whereas the target usually leave the key in the ignition of their vehicle to attend to other matters. when this occur, they provide an opportuntiy/motivation for the offender to get into their car and drive away. Many could aviod theft of their vehicle in this matter by removing their keys of the ignition and lock their vehicle whenever they about to leave their vehicle unattended.
The two theories I have chosen for my paper are Routine Activities Theory and Lifestyle Theory. Routine Activities Theory was created by Lawrence Cohen and Marcus Felson in 1979 to draw connections between routine activities in certain areas and crime. The connections Cohen and Felson make are based around influences in the community an offender would be pressured by. In essence, this theory embodies the idea of being a product of one’s environment. The second theory I chose is Lifestyle Theory. Glenn Walters created the Lifestyle Theory in 1990 and in it theorizes that crime is a lifestyle and not just a behavior. This theory focuses heavily on the offender and
Everyday Use is a short story written by Alice Walker as part of the story collection in the book Love and Trouble: Stories of Black Women. The short story is a powerful piece of writing that takes the reader on an insightful journey into the challenges, struggles, and realities of growing up as an African woman. The main issues that are palpable throughout the story are the issues of black consciousness and the stereotypes of rural black African women. I believe that the purpose of the text is to highlight the interconnectedness of the past and the present. The author wants the reader to appreciate the struggles and challenges that Black women faced
There are a vast number of issues concerning child exploitation from the actions of the offender and the victim. Child exploitation is a complex issue that does not have one simple solution; this crime is nothing new, but technology is allowing it to evolve. Child exploitation is moving from sending child pornography through the postal service and targeting only children an offender has close proximity to. Technology and the Internet have widened the opportunities for offenders and have allowed for potentially ay juvenile to become victimized. The recommendations will focus on targeting key issues presented in the Routine Activities Theory; limiting a motivated offender, making targets unsuitable, and creating capable guardians online.
In the short story Everyday Use, by Alice Walker, the short story is narrated by a black woman in the South who is faced with the decision to give away two quilts to one of her two daughters. Dee, her oldest daughter who is visiting from college, perceives the quilts as popular fashion and believes they should undoubtedly be given to her. Maggie, her youngest daughter, who still lives at home and understands the family heritage, has been promised the quilts. Dee is insistent to possess these heirlooms of family heritage, while Maggie is forbearing in allowing Mama to make her own decision as to who should receive the quilts. Dee shows a lack of appreciation, disrespect, and a distancing behavior towards her mother and sister. Mama
What I plan to do in activity 3 is put a superman plush toy inside the brown bag and let Abigail feel it. Once Abigail felt the brown bag I gave her a piece of paper and told her to draw whatever she wants. Also when she touches the brown bag she says she felt something soft like a plush toy. I provided Abigail with scissors, glue, paper and crayons and she actually used all the materials. While she drew I put some music because in all the activities that I have done with her she always enjoys the music. I notice that in her drawing she didn’t drew the brown bag, she actually drew whatever she wants. I notice that she drew a house, flower and triangle. When Abigail finish her drawing I told her to open the brow bag and her respond
Incidental exercise is where you are doing little chunks of physical activity whilst you are living you daily lives, such vacuuming and mowing the grass. In these activities you are using more than one muscle with the pushing and pulling motion, because you are using your muscles they need oxygen that's where you heart steps in.your heart beats faster and your breathing rate increases. If you don't exercise your muscles they start to make acid and that makes tiny tears in your muscles and stops them from growing With doing these activities at home you can lower your blood pressure and reducing strain on your heart also
Our time is up far exceeded my expectations. It was funny and heartwarming all in a short amount of time.
Often siblings are brought up in the same environment and turn out completely different. This is the case in Alice Walkers, “Everyday Use”. Although two sisters, Maggie and Dee, are raised by the same woman and in the same home, their similarities end here. Both are different in their appearance, personalities, and ideas about family heritage. Each having opposing views on value and worth of the various items in their lives. Walker uses this conflict to make the point that the use of an object and of people, is more important than style.
1. Agency involves regaining a sense of control over one’s life which is also referred to as self-efficacy. Agency also involves taking responsibility for one’s actions. Generativity is a desire to give back to the next generation. True self is the realization that the ex-offender has always been a “good” person although they didn’t realize this previously due to extenuating circumstances.
The reason why Justine committed the crime involves the three key elements in Routine Activities Theory. One was motivation since Justine was made to move from her hometown into the inner city she meets and made friends with the wrong crew. They got into Justine's head by telling her robbing the old homeless man would be cool. Two was suitable since Justine lost her home because her father lost his job and her father left her mother, Justine, whole world had fallen apart. Not only did she lose all her close friends that she made at her old school, she started to fall behind in school and her emotions were no longer stable. She made friends who understood what she was going through and she felt like they were her new family ones that she could
Additionally, the pros of the activity theory include a satisfactory relationship between staying active and life itself. The activity theory basically states that aging adults are happiest when they stay active and maintain positive social relationships. This can be established by the feeling of doing something meaningful in their lives. According to the Aging Article, “grandparents feels that their grandchildren’s transition to higher education has enhanced their mentoring role, but their grandchildren do not”. This is an example of how as the grandparent is maintaining an active relationship with their grandchild, it is providing them a feeling of satisfaction because they believe that they are playing a role of a mentor. The cons of the
Throughout this essay, the chosen nursing model of assessing a patient’s social needs and medical history; Roper, Logan and Tierney (R-L-T model) Activities of living (AL) will be outlined (Holland et al, 2008). Through the use of substantial and relevant theoretical literature, AL will be highlighted i.e. biological, psychological, political economic, environmental and social-cultural issues. This will include theoretical highlights of care given to a patient admitted in hospital holistically. Basically by assessing and examining the importance of model and framework in nursing practice will help to understand the patient and rationale. A framework of Assessment, Diagnosis, Planning, Implementation and Evaluation (A. D. P.I.E) will be
This is also the case in this Portland location and the focus should be on the location and the victims because as they discussed in Texas if they arrested on offender another will take its place, it would not be very effective. After looking at the PSU crime data I have noticed that car prowls occurs throughout the year, overall declining in Portland overall, but in the area between 122nd Ave and I-205 around Airport Way based on the heat map from 1995 to 2013 car prowls have increased or well above average at this location(PSU, 2017). Also overall these crimes occurred after dark mostly every day between 6pm to 2am(PSU, 2017). Focusing on victims would also be important even though we don’t have any data in Portland about victims, in the Texas model they identified that were part of the problem because they left cars unlocked, left windows open and often left valuables in plain site where offenders could see inside. This could also be applied to Portland because if offenders don’t see anything of value worth while in your car and if it's secure they would be less likely to break into that car.
Social lives start and finish with leisure activity. Leisure activity starts social lives because it generates the time that can be spent to engage in recreational time or leisure time. Furthermore, an individual’s activity does not have to be a group activity it can be a solo activity because when the individual is not with friends or families the activity that their doing will be because of a certain socio-cultural factor. Therefore, an individual will workout because of the gender identity and the double bind of masculinity. The reason for this is because most men will workout to change their appearance to become more masculine and powerful but are not suppose to care about their appearance.
How does work and leisure correspond to the “good life?” Is there a formula, which if we follow, will lead us towards our own Atlantis? I believe there is. Aristotle’s view, that humans can shape their own habits, to create virtues, gives us a clear understanding of what is required to arrive at our desired destination. Virtues, particularly temperance, combined with hard work, innovation, and determination should shape how we think about work and leisure, in our pursuit of the “good life.”
