SWOT Analysis on the XBOX A SWOT analysis is an examination of an organization’s Strengths and Weaknesses, as well as what are the Opportunities and Threats (Schermerhorn, 2010, p.212). To best do a SWOT, it is important to look at the history of the XBOX. When Bill Gates reveled plans for the Xbox at the Game developer’s conference in San Jose, Ca. in March of 2000 no one knew exactly what to make of it. Was he mad, brave or just plain deluded? With Sony bashing Nintendo into a distant second place and Sega struggling to stay in the console arms race, his plans seemed a little crazy. But

Strengths; Superior marketing from two years out building up to the consol release in Times Square, Public recruiting of top game developers, XBOX and XBOX 360 both released over a month prior to Christmas making for outstanding holiday sales, XBOX was designed and manufactured by a leader in technology Microsoft giving it an instant reputation, XBOX live functionality lets you play your game on online against other players from around the world, built in hard drive to down load games and as memory storage, aggressive price cutting, and a broad range of quality titles (PS3power, 2008).
Weaknesses; Not as many game developers producing game titles for the XBOX, many of the game titles you can get for your PC which would operate better than a game console, and It’s hard to break brand fans like in Japan who stand by Sony (PS3power, 2008)
Opportunities; continually expanding in all countries, the technology is expanding in such a way as to be able to use twitter and down load net flix, Strong online services that make it easier for players to connect, interact and do more online.
Threats; Life of the consol is approximately 5 years due to constant playability, As soon as any technology is released designers are already thinking and developing the next big thing in the gaming industry, competitors taking a different route as in the Nintendo wii doesn’t support the graphics the XBOX does but it gets gamers off the
If you've never touched a video game controller in your life, but do have avid players in your household, you may be in for a bewildering month. That's because we're on the verge of what the gaming industry excitedly calls 'a new console generation'. In short, the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, once the most powerful games machines on the planet are being replaced – the former by the Xbox One, the latter by the PlayStation 4 (PS4).
The Playstation 4 has a variety of better games than the Xbox One. As stated by trustedreviews.com, “Sony has its own set of exclusive games which won’t be available on the Xbox One.” Also stated by trustedreviews.com, “Given that many multi-format games, arguably offer higher quality performance on the current PS4 than the Xbox One already.” This evidence shows how Playstation 4 games are better than the Xbox One games
A SWOT analysis is a tool used to identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of an organization. A SWOT model measures what an organization can or cannot do as well as the possible opportunities and threats. This is done by taking data from the organization’s environment, analyzing the information and separating it into the internal (strengths and weaknesses) and external (opportunities and threats). When this is completed the analysis can create a plan for the organization to achieve its goals, and identify what difficulties must be overcome to attain
Through the years of all the generations consoles Microsoft’s Xbox and Sony’s PlayStation both prove to be, arguably, number one. The flames of the console war since the release of the latest generation of consoles back in 2013 have been set ablaze by fans and gamers alike. Microsoft had a weak start with the Xbox One and with nonstop updates and quick releases they crushed their competition. What exactly makes Xbox better?
The interface for the Xbox one is excellent because of how organised it is. On the Xbox you can easily find your games, social media, and the store. The Xbox one when you go from one app to another you hear a nice calm whooshing sound that isn’t annoying or can get stuck in your head. That is the exact opposite with the Playstation the sound is a bloop it is very annoying and it can get stuck in your head. Another great feature is the keyboard on the Xbox one it is very easy access. The keyboard on
Microsoft started developing their console after the DirectX, which was a programming unit that was mostly used for creating videos and various types of graphics for computers. Microsoft modified their DirectX and made it into the Xbox. Since Microsoft built the Xbox from a computer it was extremely powerful compared to Sony’s Play Station 2, Nintendo’s Gamecube, and Sega 's Dreamcast ( ). Microsoft was concerned if they would get support from third party developers because it was the first video game console they produced.
As sales of Nintendo’s Wii and DS dominate the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and PlayStation Portable, respectively, the pressure continues to mount on Sony and Microsoft to move to the next level in the ongoing console wars. Sales of the Wii in 2008
The Xbox One X is going to be a massive step up in gaming consoles and PlayStation does not have the hardware to compete yet. I believe that PlayStation is going to be working on a console to hit back at the Xbox One X. Nintendo Switch had a very positive response so they may carry on making new Nintendo devices similar to the Switch. Also if Xbox and PlayStation are stepping up the power of their consoles then Nintendo might have to make more power out of their console too. Also Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo are going to have extra competition once again as Atari have announced they are going to be re-entering the console business after years of absence. Atari will be restarting their console market by releasing the Atari Box.
In order for us to evaluate what people’s opinions of their consoles were, we decided to evaluate the most recent video game consoles that released only three years ago. As a result, we choose to use Microsoft’s Xbox One and Sony’s PlayStation 4. Launching just one week apart from each other in November 2013, the Xbox one and PS4 gave birth to the eighth generation of video consoles. Each console sold millions within their first few weeks on the market. At the end of 2013, Sony’s PlayStation 4 had been sold to over 4.2 million people worldwide (2), were as Microsoft’s Xbox One had only been sold to 3 million people worldwide (1). As of November 1st, 2016 the PlayStation 4 had over 45 million units sold to consumers worldwide, followed by the
The best thing that xbox one’s have that xbox 360 don’t is you can use a phone charger to charge your controller. You can also get games that are on the pc, but you can’t get on xbox 360. There is also a little price involved the xbox one cost a lot more for games, controllers, and even the console. So when i mean the games and all that cost more they are like $130 per controller and $30 more per game. Just the console got cost $388 which a xbox 360 cost $166.95 so they are a little over $200 more.
The XBOX is now a 6th generation video game console that is manufactured by Microsoft. The machine itself was released in November of 2001, just in time for the 2001 Holiday Season in the United States, then subsequently worldwide. The decision to manufacture and release the system was Microsoft's first plunge into the gaming console market and designed to compete with the Sony PlayStation 2, Nintendo's GameCUbe, and Sega's Dreamcast. By November of 2002, Microsoft launched the Xbox Live service that allowed players to play interactive games online (Gamer's Catch, 2006). Looking at the evolution of the system, however, we now know that the Xbox began to be discontinued in late 2005 (in Japan) and then in early 2007 in North America. The last game was released in August 2007, and even support for out-of-warranty consoles was discontinued in 2009, with all new faulty consoles replaced with Xbox 360. Xbox Live support was discontinued in April 2010 (Whitten, 2010).
The Xbox One has many strengths that can be used in order for it to become a profitable product.
Threat of Substitutes: The main substitute for a video game console would be a personal computer. They can both be used for playing different types of video games and be used for entertainment. The threat of this substitute edging out video game consoles is very low, because they are not completely similar. If anything, video game consoles are edging out personal computers in the gaming industry. The threat of substitutes in the video game is not very high. In 2008, this was not a very strong force in the video game industry.
Microsoft introduced the new console (Xbox 360) one year before Sony, the industry leader, unleashed the PS3. Microsoft with the first mover advantage built a large customer base and has the largest library of games. The PS3 console has the best raw power and blue-ray capabilities. Nintendo, although with the less advanced console (Nintendo Wii), has successfully distinguished itself from their competitors with an innovative controller whith motion-sensor capabilities.
However, when Microsoft started the development of its next generation console- the Xbox 360- it recognized the deficits and problems related to its initial strategy: the company was operating under too high costs in order to assure high product availability which was not the critical factor in this business. The nature of the console business is about providing the customer with a cheap hardware and a variety of games, in order to generate profits from games sales. Additionally, the first Xbox was released one year behind Sony’s PS2, Microsoft’s biggest competitor in the market. This delay resulted in a substantial loss of sales and consequently reduced game sales. Therefore, Microsoft learned that the Xbox 360 had to be launched ahead of Sony’s PS3. Accordingly, one relevant part of Microsoft’s new strategy was the “first-to-market” approach. Another essential change in Microsoft’s business strategy concerned its cost structure in the Xbox supply chain. Whereas the initial strategy focused heavily on reliability, Microsoft changed its strategy to achieving reduced costs and increased profitability. Additionally, the company insisted on owning the design of critical components, such as the microprocessor and the graphics chip, in order to “control its own destiny”. Therefore, the supply chain network needed to be redesigned in order to support Microsoft’s strategic shift. So as to reach the desired cost
