For example, the businesses can look for the least hazardous equipment or material. They can separate workers from specific known hazards, by protective clothing and equipment or architectural features. They can provide satisfactory air circulation to protect against gases. They can legislate rules and procedures that endorse safe practices.
For example, a place of work safety instructions are having too many keys, or not an adequate amount of can leave your place of work at jeopardy. Safeguarding the not dangerous protection and defense of workers, records, tools and accommodations is a main concern of business proprietors and supervisors. For example, Alarm and Surveillance Systems can invest in a good security system that will be cautious of the governing programs in the event of a break-in. Make the password available only to those with a valid reason for withholding it normally check all windows and doors before closing your office. Install video surveillance systems at entrances and exits as well as in hallways, staircases, garages and service counters where financial transactions take place.
In concluding, by means of the progression of work violence, security at work has become an even larger concern for healthcare employers and workers in a similar way. Safety, health and security in the workplace is important to workers and to the general self-esteem of the employees of a business. A general objective of providing a safe,
Safety is an important factor and is a high priority in healthcare. Kelly, Fenwick, Brekke, and Novaco (2015) shared that workplace violence impairs the staff perceptions of safety. However, both patients and staff are affected by workplace violence in many ways, from physical to emotional aspects. There are many reasons why violence occurs, that will be explained later in this paper. The purpose of this paper is to explain the reason and importance of the chosen phenomenon of interest. Moreover, primary and opposing philosophic viewpoints will be discussed, as well as ways of recognizing and utilizing them in nursing. The ways of knowing patterns in nursing and the utilization of these patterns will be explained, pertaining to nursing care.
As health care workers we are under a legal obligation to protect an individual from any kind of abuse, whether it is physical, financial, emotional, sexual or psychological .Legislation, policies and procedures exist to promote a safer working environment and reduce the potential for risks occurring. They are tailored for the needs of each setting, known and understood by employers and employees and reviewed on a regular basis.
They must also ensure that workplaces and work activities do not put visitors, members of the public and others at unnecessary risk.
Section 2 – Understand the purpose of health, safety and security procedures in a business environment
In this task I will be describing how health and safety legislation, policies and procedures promotes the safety of individuals in a Hospital. Quality care is an important issue for both health care workers and their partners. Government continue to work on implementing staffing law that will upgrade the medical systems. Hospitals are required to provide security for patients and staff. Mechanical equipment, housekeeping, administrative and food staff play important roles in preventing all environmental hazards. Safety concerns surrounding these hazards include injury, illness, disease exposure, disaster
Workplace violence is the main issue in the United States expressed influencing a large number of American consistently. Working environment violence is any demonstration or danger of physical savagery, provocation, terrorizing, or other undermining problematic conduct that happens at the work site. It ranges from dangers and verbal mishandle to physical ambushes and even murder. It can influence and include workers, customers, nurses, patient, clients, and guests. Workplace violence can be discovered anywhere in every field we may accept the fact that it can happen in our workplace too, but the fewer people speak which is encouraging these criminals to prepare of making more atrocity. The occupational safety and health organization (OSHA) have created rules and suggestions to decrease laborer presentation to this deplorable scourge but still many people are being victimized their hands are tied up mouths are taped out to face the reality of what they are living through (OSHA 2015). OSHA’s paradigm incorporates the following elements: management commitment and employee involvement, hazard analysis or assessment, hazard controls, employee training, and recordkeeping and evaluation (McPhaul, London, & Lipscomb, 2013). As mentioned, these elements are basic guidelines in constructing a program, but more specific measures are needed to address specific precursors that contribute to the occurrence of violence and bullying. This would assist in forming the best strategies to remedy workplace violence and incivility.
Identify hazards, assess risks and risk control measures. Any kind of business you are, there is always the possibility of an accident or damage to someone's health. All work exposes people to hazards. Loads which have to be manually handled; dangerous machinery; toxic substances; electricity; working with display screen equipment or even psychological hazards such as stress. The reason there’s not even more accidents and diseases caused in the work place is because systems of prevention which are in place which have been built up over generations. Most accidents happen because they have not been prevented. Essentially you have to ensure absence of risk to safety and health of employees and others 'so far as is reasonably practicable'.
Further, there are many aspects of improvement and quality care that go with safety. I will discuss with consumers and providers then analyze how to create safer and healthier environment work place. The clinic has different departments that provide various services, and culture of safety is crucial. For instance, in stand of employee reporting incident and wait for feedback as
The importance of health and safety requires that employees, other persons at work and members of the public be given the highest level of protection against risks to their health and safety that is reasonably practicable in the circumstances.
Have you ever think about people for unsafe work? Each in everyday, hours and minutes, as we step forward into a factory, mills or machineries, significant people are put into danger. Although health and safety in a workplace is necessary for the employers and employees, there are still a lot of injuries and deaths in a workplace. Most people we’re being forced to work even if the job is not safe for them to do so. There are people getting injured and killed every day that’s why we need to put a stop to it now and make the job in a workplace comfortable to everybody.
This is relevant for me as it is for everyone in the healthcare industry. We all want to work in an environment that is free from violence especially in an environment that is already full of stress. It is good to know that there are governmental sanctions for those that violate harassment or violence regulations in the workplace. We still need management to be accountable with those under their direction, disciplining and counseling problem employees as necessary. Because of this threat that constantly hangs over our heads we as nurses should develop a process or plan
The Bureau of Labor Statistics (2000) shows that 48% of all non-fatal work related assaults and acts of violence have occurred in health care and social service settings. Violence against mental health and health care workers has the potential to cause major physical injuries and psychological trauma. In return this poses serious consequences on employers such as increased turnover, medical and psychological care, increased absenteeism, decreased morale, job dissatisfaction, legal issues, and worker burn-out. Agencies and clinicians are encouraged to evaluate and identify the risks that are potential barriers in their agencies. Safety plans need to be implemented and strategized along with re-evaluations on a continuous basis (Taylor, H. 2013).
This responsibility motivates the HR department and managers to implement stringent policies to prevent work-related injuries to avoid paying for higher workers’ compensation insurance. Moreover, it inspires the company to promote safety by organizing a safety committee to address hazards in the workplace to prevent injuries or deaths. The committee solicits employee suggestions and participation to increase compliance to company policies. It also develops various safety programs to promote employee wellness to improve their quality of life (Gomez-Mejia, et al, 2010).
Employers must provide a safe working environment and equipment / uniform / signs to ensure the employees are as safe as they can be. Customers are also provided with a safe store to shop in and measures are put in place to ensure everyone’s safety in kept in tact
What policies might an organization develop as part of its commitments to health and safety?
