As young children, we are not worried about our true identity. As children grow into teenagers and young adults, they begin to wonder what their true worth is. They wonder why they are put on this Earth. Now imagine losing all your memory. You only knew your name and your intermediate family. In the book, Saint by Ted Dekker, Carl Strople, the main character, fights to regain his memory and save his son and wife from the X-Group. One central theme of Saint is in the end you will bring your own downfall or you will be your upbringing; you can't escape you.
In the beginning Carl wakes up tied to a bed next to his wife. He can only remember his name, his wifes and sons. He doesn't remember how he got there or anything before the time before he woke up. ¨Carl just stared …show more content…

He is a trained assassin and the X-Group knows this. They want him to kill people and this will save his and his wife's life. He resorted back to his training as a Black Ops personnel. He stayed still and did not move. He did what he thought was best to keep his wife from hurting anymore. ¨Confusion swarmed Carl, but he refused to the the light at the end of the wink out.¨(Page 24). Carl was put through a series of test after he was caught by the X-Group. In this test, Carl was put in a room that had extreme cooling and heating conditions. He was tied to a chair and kept in there or three days. To survive he blocked out everything. He went into a spot in his mind he calls the tunnel and he stays there until he sees the light. Carl is a strong person. He knows how to stay calmed and focused in every situation. Carl believes in himself and his ability to save to the people he loves. ¨Based on Project Showdown, which gave me faith to believe.¨(Page 183). Project Showdown was a elite group within the Black Ops. They were trained in every situation. Carl was a part of Project Showdown. The men in this group was broke down and built back up to become a silent killer. Project Showdown
