As young children, we are not worried about our true identity. As children grow into teenagers and young adults, they begin to wonder what their true worth is. They wonder why they are put on this Earth. Now imagine losing all your memory. You only knew your name and your intermediate family. In the book, Saint by Ted Dekker, Carl Strople, the main character, fights to regain his memory and save his son and wife from the X-Group. One central theme of Saint is in the end you will bring your own downfall or you will be your upbringing; you can't escape you.
In the beginning Carl wakes up tied to a bed next to his wife. He can only remember his name, his wifes and sons. He doesn't remember how he got there or anything before the time before he woke up. ¨Carl just stared

Francis of Assisi was born in 1181, and was taught to read and write in Latin as a young boy. In 1205 Francis had a vision; this vision was interpreted to be a message from God to repair the church. After renouncing all of his belongings and receiving blessings from the pope, Francis set out to preach with his new order of monks, known as the Franciscans. To preserve the religious vocations of his brothers, Francis created the Admonitions. They were written during the foundational period of the Franciscan order. The Admonitions are instructions created to emphasize important virtues such as obedience, poverty, and humility.
In this paper, I will explain Susan Wolf’s description of the Moral Saint ideal and her objection to this ideal. Then, I will outline an argument against Wolf’s objection and evaluate if said argument will hold when faced with a counter-argument. My thesis is that Wolf’s argument for her objection to the Moral Saint ideal is invalid.

The name Matthew comes from the Greek Maththaios, which is derived from the Hebrew or Aramaic Mattiyah. His name means “gift of Yahweh” or simply “gift of God.” Saint Matthew was one of the twelve apostles and he wrote the Gospel according to Matthew. Although he was a publican, it is said the Saint Matthew was a Jew. Before his conversion, he was a publican, which was a tax collector, by profession. Not much is really known about Matthew later on in his life. His beginning of apostolic activity started in the communities of Palestine. He wrote for his countrymen in Palestine and composed his Gospel in his native Aramaic. This is refereed to as the “Hebrew tongue” which is mentioned in the Gospel and the Acts of
St. Francis of Assisi was born in Umbria in the year 1182. He was a child every father hoped for, he was filled with life, a determined and courageous individual. He was gifted with rather good looks, qualities that attracted friends and a gift of leadership. His father was an extremely wealthy merchant in Assisi. But this son, his favourite, was the one who broke Peter Bernardone’s heart. The boy turned on his father, and in a vicious event that eventually resulted into a public scene. St. Francis of Assisi stepped away from his father, his business and left his father in a state of immense emotional suffering.
Everyday is a day to be thankful for because unimaginable events can happen at any given moment. Such unimaginable moment happened during the year of 1755 on All Saints Day. An earthquake, five-day fire, and three tsunamis occurred in one single day, which brought extreme destruction. The city of Lisbon was eliminated along with the community living in this city. With such extreme event, individuals question if this destruction had a meaning or reason. The impact of this disastrous day will be evaluated for greater meaning.
Sainthood is defined as someone whose goodness outweighs the sins that they made. But according to Gregory Orfalea, and Tony Platt, their perspective on receiving Sainthood rights is looked at in different ways. In the first article by Gregory Orfalea, he discusses his hopes for Father Serra to receive the entitlement, and to, “overlook such flaws”. In the other hand, Tony Platt has made his opposing arguments. Tony Platt believed that Father Serra should not be canonized because that would be, “reinforcing selective, racist history…” and take offense to Native Americans. With the definition of sainthood being defined as the goodness exceeding the sins, I believe that father Serra does not meet these standards.
Christopher McCandless, American traveler, once said “So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservation, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality, nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit.” This quote is far more universal than originally thought to be. Throughout one’s life, one will undoubtedly experience some form of conformity. The driving factor for a majority of these moments is fear; fear of not fitting in, or of not living up to society’s expectations. The only thing that lets one escape conformity is the memories one holds, the deeper emotions not often revealed. This idea is supported by two books, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak and The Giver by Lois Lowry. The Book Thief revolves around a young German girl named Liesel living in Nazi Germany with her papa, Hans Hubermann, and his wife, Rosa. Throughout her papa’s life, his beliefs have been forced upon him, but it’s his past memories that help him stay true to his beliefs. In The Giver, the main character, Jonas, has been living in a strict utopian society where breaking the rules is frowned upon, but it’s past memories that help Jonas break free. While fear may cause people to contravene their identity, memories are what keep people from conforming. Both authors utilize character development, setting, and foreshadowing in their
The four saints mentioned above are all drastically different individuals. A common misconception about saints, is that some people think that they are all alike. Saints are a very, very diverse and unique group. The only thing that all canonized saints have in common is that the church recognizes them all as being especially holy.
He picked up all the pieces and put them in a grey sparkling pouch so he could glue it back together. There was broken glass, computers, metal bars, and anything you could imagine in your brain. Finally, his shift was over and he slept in his bed with Sam at his feet, drooling and snoring. This was a very bad day in history. How could anybody do this?
Saint Peter was born in Bethsaida Gaulanitis, Syria Roman Empire at around 1 AD. Peter’s feast day is on the twenty ninth of June. Peter also had a brother named, Andrew. Andrew was another one of Jesus’s twelve disciples. Peter did not go to school, he was just taught by his father in the trade of fishing
When discussing and proving the person of Christ, there are two basic laws that must be addressed and proven. First you must prove that Christ is one hundred percent human (humanity), then you must prove that at the same time Christ is one hundred percent God (deity).
The origins of “When the Saints” have never been fully explained in modern times. It was originally written as a Negro Spiritual hymn sometime near the beginning of the twentieth century. On written music, composers usually notate it as a traditional piece, but the identity of the original author remains up for debate. Some sources claim that the original lyrics of “When the Saints” were penned by Katherine Pervis and put to music by James Black in 1896, but many scholars today believe that Pervis and Black’s composition was a completely different piece of music due to it being titled “When the Saints Are Marching In”. Regardless, the original lyrics contain

It’s been two day since I found that town. Still no luck finding Rick, Carl, or Judith. I was starting to loose hope. It was a little boost of hope when I saw a full can of pudding eaten, probably Carl,I had been checking in the houses and now was walking through the backyard, heading for the last house I haven’t checked while I was walking, I heard a snap and felt a burst of pain from my leg. I screamed and looked to see a trap latched to
