Same Sex Marriage Should Not Be Legalized

The definition of marriage is the legally recognized union of two individuals. For many people that is the only definition. However, to others it means so much more than that. Marriage is not for the weak, it is not for people who are selfish and people who do not want to work at it. Marriage is being there for each other and being selfless for the other person. For those people who feel that it is much more than just a legal representation. They feel that two individuals coming together for life is more than a piece of paper. It is two individuals blending their lives together forever.

What is marriage? Marriage is the legal or formal recognition of union between two people. Marriage symbolizes the love of two people until death do them part. Marriage is a risk people take despite the various odds against it. People get married for a variety of reasons because of religious beliefs, societal pressure, and obligations.

Marriage can be defined as a legal union of people coming together, combing their resources, and committing to their partner(s). It functions more than just a union of two people and may have a much broader significance than the relationship between husband and wife. Marriage brings families together and expands families by having children. It also provides information of the growth of families from one generation to the next (Dettwyler, 2011).

Marriage is a union between two people. The purpose of marriage is to love and support the other person, through good times and through bad. With this being said, marriage has the opportunity to make you a better person, who is more flourished and happier. Although marriages have the opportunity to happy, lifelong relationships, they also have the opportunity to be loveless and more of a burden than a gift.

The reason people get married is mainly love, money, and traditions.

Marriage is the unity of a man and a woman as partners in a relationship. Generally, a couple would get married due to strong emotional feelings towards each other. This leads to them pronouncing their vows and promises to each other which should last for the rest of their lifetimes. But, in some cases, there are exceptions. Marriage can lead to a separation due to the differences in interests between a husband and a wife.

It liberates us from pretense, humbles us out of our self-righteousness, and fortifies us for any difficulty life can throw at us.” Is that what really happens in a marriage or is all just a façade to meet the high standards of the American people? Marriage is often a word used to hide the truth of people’s problems with commitment, expectations, and reality.

Biblical marriage is between a man and a woman who become one. Throughout this course we read many writings that can closely relate to this statement. For example, Thomas Aquinas, a theologian and philosopher from the 1250s, explained that by loving another individual, you must become one with them. He analyzed love as an appetite, or a transformation when two people love and marry one another, they take the form of one another. However, before you can consume the shape of your loved one, you must build a relationship with God. We are establishing a healthy relationship by figuring out how to love and cherish, as Christ does for the Church, and by choosing to remain physically immaculate until marriage (Gen 2:24, Matt. 19:5, Eph 5:31). During the Bible era, a couple was considered married once they were united, or engaged. For the couple to separate after the marriage, they would have to get a legal divorce. This Biblical perspective contrasts with the views of the Christians in today’s society. Our culture sees this relationship as an optional commitment.

As we know, same-sex marriage has been discussed and argued for a long time. Within the controversial topic of gay rights, there’s no area more controversial than same-sex marriage. And all of us ask ourselves if same-sex marriage should be legal or not. But the fact is that we have to start thinking about it as a moral and religious topic. In today’s society, there are many stereotypical people that are against gay or lesbian marriage. Everyone should have the right to decide on who they would like to marry. Gay marriage should be legal and a non-punishable offense because it can prevent teenage suicides, more children will be adopted, and people will not feel like second-class citizens.

As we know, same-sex marriage has been a prominent issue that has so many arguments not just in the United States, but around the world over many years now. There is absolutely nothing more controversial than same-sex marriage in gay rights topic. Everyone has different opinions about same-sex marriage whether it should be legal or not. We now have to consider two aspects that are moral and religious. These two form a fundamental belief that same-sex couples and opposite-sex couples are different. Based on the definition of marriage, the view of religion, bad effects to children, and the lifestyle that should not be encouraged; therefore, the government should not legalize the same-sex marriage.
