Prevalence of victimization of bullying occurs highest in elementary school. One study estimates that 19% of elementary students suffer from bullying. While the prevalence of victimization is slightly lower in middle school, 11% of students are reporting occasional bullying (Pellegrini & Brooks, 2001). Target Population
There are approximately 6,516 total students in the Bristol Township School District and 449 teachers with a 15:1 student teacher ratio. According to data from the 2000 US census, the racial makeup of Bristol Township School District is 71% White, 18.9% African American, 2.6%, 7.2% Hispanic or Latino of any race was 3.85% of the population. Grant proposal A was about implementing an expansion to ABC’s Alternative Breaks program to send groups of students to various communities around the country. Overall, I felt this grant was well written. This grant proposal is straight to the point, but gives enough information within most areas where clarification in not necessary. This grant proposal falls under the community service, and civic engagement categories. Although this grant proposal is for an expansion of preexisting program, I can see why they want to expand the program. The program is helps bring awareness to social problems, promotes physical activity, and helps entice people to engage in their communities. I feel that this expansion program would benefit communities,
I have to admit most of the time I am always up for a challenge. However, preparing a well written successful grant proposal is just one of the many challenges to grant funding. I chose option A. a Coca-Cola local plant’s foundation grant for $20,000 to start a class at a local high school on career selection. I believe that it is best for someone like me without any experience to start out on a small scale by choosing a short term project with a public funder. My decision was based on the complicated policies and regulations that Dr. Crum describes in the Grants Managing Section. According to Crum, Federal Grants have numerous regulations, Congressional Acts, and Office Management and Budget Circulars that may have special grant exclusions and caveats. These exclusions and stipulations have specific guidelines that must be met in order to insure funds are spent appropriately. Managing federal grants can be a huge undertaking, especially for grantees with simultaneous grant management deadlines
policy will be followed, and may result in dismissal of the student from Indiana Wesleyan
One child out of two in grades four thru twelve have all reported being bullied. The cases of bullying being reported does trend down as the child gets older (Stop Bullying.gov). Children and teens that are abnormal or considered to be different from others seem to be targeted by the bully most frequently. The LGBT community (gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender), individuals who are obese, students with disabilities, or students known to be weak or viewed as inferior are the most frequently under attack. The LGBT community is more likely to have ideation or attempt suicide because of bullying than their heterosexual classmates (Suicide Prevention Resource Center, 2014).
According to “Stop bullying. Gov” 70.6% of young people say they have seen bullying in their schools, and when bystanders intervene, bullying stops within 57% of the time.
To deny the existence of bullying throughout the nation, especially within the brick walls of school, is to be ignorant. Bullying is a huge issue that is evident in may schools throughout America. Seventy percent of students throughout schools in America have said that they have witnessed bullying. A total of forty-nine percent of student in grades 4-12 have reported getting bullied at least once a month. Parents have to constantly worry about their child getting picked on while at school. One out of every four students, equalling to around twenty percent, are bullied every year. Around fifty-five million children throughout the United States are attending school this year, many whom are getting bullied.
Bullying has become a major topic of discussion within the education field in our country. The number of national public service announcements that center around controlling/stopping bullying has undoubtedly been heightened in the United States. Now more than ever, United States citizens are witnessing a constant influx of news stories developing around the problems that associate with bullying. This is certainly no different for those living in Northwest Ohio as more and more instances of bullying are being exposed at all educational levels with our children via local media outlets as well. Bullying has even hit close to home for me as a single mother as my 6-year-old daughter. She has already been battling with bullying as early as her kindergarten year of school, which in large part provoked this article’s creation. Before
Many levels of support are needed to conduct this program including administrators, an Olweus Bullying Prevention Coordinating Committee (BPCC), teaching staff, non-teaching staff (such as bus drivers, cafeteria workers, janitors, nurses, secretaries, librarians, and school counselors), parents, law enforcement
Grant proposal preparation and submission is a tedious and intimidating job. However as public funding continues to decrease many colleges and universities look for research grants to support their educational research mission (Education advisory Board, 2014). According to licklider (2012), external grants helps to support higher education’s missions of educational research, outreach and economic development. Which is one of the reasons why higher education push for their research faculty to pursue research grants. As a matter of fact, many universities offer course release and incentives for awarded research grants, including Drexel University.
II, According to a research survey, bullying occurs once every 7 minutes in schools. Due to the National Youth Violence Prevention Center, almost 30% of adolescences in the USA (or over 5.7 millions) are estimated to take part in bullying either bullying, being bullied or both. Also according to a 2007 nationally representative poll by The Workplace Bullying Institute, 37% of US workforce or 54 million employees have been bullied some time during their work time.
Many of us believe it is the younger age group that is bullied most often, we think this because they are still in the stages of growing up. However, according to “Age Trends in the Prevalence of Bullying” (2007), “bullying affects kids ages 11-15, they have also noticed, once the teen hits ninth grade bullying begins to peak.” (p. 1) The article “Bullying Statistics” (n.d) claims teens in sixth through 10th grade are likely to be involved in activities related to bullying (para. 2).” The definition of bullying according to Merriam Webster (2016), is to frighten, hurt, or threaten (a smaller or weaker person) (p. 1).”
Middle school students experience an onset of changes. The transition from elementary school, the start or puberty, and peer socialization can have adverse psychological effects on students. Due to the ongoing changes there is a typical trajectory of bullying and peer victimization from a developmental perspective is an increase and peak, during middle school years and a decrease during high school years (Klein, Cornell, & Konold, 2012). According to a recent survey published by the American Psychological Association, 38.6% of middle school students reported peer victimization,
This paper is all about this scenario; imagine that your team is the planning unit in your local police department. The chief of police has told you that a philanthropist in town is considering giving a $100,000 grant to a worthy cause in the department. The chief has charged your team with deciding how, when, and where that money will be spent.
Applying the strategies for writing proposals studied this week, I will be comparing the grant proposal requirements for three separate foundations. The organizations being investigated are the W.K. Kellogg, the Sherman, and Mellon Foundation. Furthermore, I will proceed by reviewing the specific needs for each proposal distinguishing which elements remained the same across each foundation. Moreover, I continue by noting any changes that must be made to the strategy used to produce a proposal. Finally, I present any challenges that may arise from utilizing an online proposal process versus a paper-based process.
Personally, I have never been a victim in any shape or sort of bullying. However According to the National Center For Education Statistics, there are 14.9 Million students in the U.S. and at least 47 Percent of them will be effected in some shape of bullying. That is over 6 Million kids in the U.S. who will be impacted by bullying. It also states that girls are less likely to be contributors of bullying, they still have the same effects or it can be just as bad as the boys bullying. According to the National Bullying Prevention Center bullying happens in numerous places. Such as, Hallways, Cafeteria, Classrooms, Bathroom, School buses, Social Media, Locker Rooms, And Outside of school.
