This research paper is based on Chapters 15 of Robbins and Judge, (Work Design and Technology). My research is based on my experience in the workplace (direct observation). My organizational issue is allowing an employee the ability to make their own decisions on the job. I will analyze my organizational issue with the following two core concepts: autonomy and the job characteristics model.

The Maternal and Child Health Bureau strategic plan during the years of 2003-2007 developed training for the preparation of national leadership for Maternal and Child Health field and develop ways to improve the overall health of the maternal and child health population. How the bureau planned to achieve that was by strengthen the Maternal and Child Health knowledge and support scholarship within the field by proving graduate education to develop interdisciplinary public health leaders nationwide. The Maternal and Child Health Bureau invested in innovative training and education programs to produce more qualified leaders according to a set of guidelines on the national level (Dodds, et al., 2010). To stay up to date in the field there must be an advancement of the methods of successful training programs in regards to key stakeholders. An example of this type of training would be the Maternal and Child Health Leadership Training Consortium at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill which was developed to produce interdisciplinary Maternal and Child Health leaders nationwide.

Since I only met with Jim and his wife the one time to complete an intake assessment, I was nervous about whether I could utilize Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). Before the session, I reflected upon SFBT precepts and the fact that SFBT is meant to be a brief therapy, which can encompass one session. Reviewing Kim (2014), I found four components which can be featured during a first interview: the miracle question, scaling questions, taking a break, and compliments (pg. 2). I intentionally imagined how I could implement SFBT into an intake assessment so that I could listen during my interview, instead of trying to remember what SFBT concepts to employ. By reviewing course information and thinking about how to apply SFBT in my practice, I hoped to minimize my own fears and concerns about SFBT and provide myself confidence for assisting my client in finding their own goal.

Boriken Neighborhood Health Center is a multi-service health center. One of their smallest departments is their Nutrition Department. It is comprised of one nutritionist and one registered dietitian. During the health center’s last audit, they received low quality scores in their nutrition department. One of the reasons is that there is not an influx of patients and many of the patients do not return after more than one visit. The nutrition department decided to collaborate with the outreach department in creating a workshop that will bring in new patients and encourage current patients to return.
