Building condition surveys where carried out a lot at Capita, there was two projects I was able to be involved with that contained carrying out condition surveys theses where University of Edinburgh and HFS 5 Ayrshire and Arran. University of Edinburgh involved going to all the properties under their estates and carry out condition surveys and HFS 5 Ayrshire and Arran also involved going to all the NHS properties within Ayrshire and Arran. During both these projects I was able to go out n survey with another surveyor and help out with carrying out the condition survey. From having no experience of doing condition surveys I was able to quickly realise why condition surveys are carried out and the purpose they serve especially for the who the condition survey is getting carried out for as it helps to indentify maintenance and repair work which has to be done and in the future to maintain the standard of an building. I now feel I have a basic understanding of the information require within a condition survey such as external and internal fabric make up of a building, also how photographs are required as evidence toward defects noted throughout the survey. The surveys carried out were non intrusive, meaning no in-depth investigations was carried out to any properties. I worked in retail as a manager for 12 years at the former County Seat and one of my assistants is still working retail as a manager at Maurices here in Dubuque.
