The San Antonio Police Department has multiple lawsuits against it. Two of those cases include Richard R. Buchanan and John David Palmer. According to Buchanan v. City of San Antonio, “Richard R. Buchanan was suing the city of San Antonio under the Americans with Disabilities Act” (Buchanan). The Disabilities Act prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of the public life. The city of San Antonio repeatedly turned down his application to become a police officer. Buchanan was already a patrolman with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Department, when he received an injury to his back during a foot chase of a suspect. He claimed that he was fully recovered from his injuries. Buchanan wanted to become a San Antonio …show more content…
Williamson was wearing a bathing suit and carrying a pistol and jumped into the street in front of Palmer’s car. When Palmer tried to get away, Williamson grabbed him through the window, while pointing the pistol at him. When Palmer was driving away, Williamson fired his pistol and hit the left side of the vehicle. A mile late Palmer stopped to inspect his car, when suddenly a truck was blocking his car, it is said that Williamson told the truck driver to follow Palmer. According to Palmer v. city of San Antonio “Palmer was arrested by the city of Converse and was charged with public intoxication and assault with a motor vehicle” (Palmer). Palmer sued the police department saying that the officers were using unnecessary physical force when arresting a person and unauthorized and improper discharge of a firearm. Palmer stated that the alleged actions of the officer reflect the inadequate training on the party of the city, and that the city policy caused the officer to violate his rights. After finding that Palmer failed to specify a policy or custom of the police department which would make the city liable, the district court dismissed the

On his person were 10 dollars and a purse from the house he just stole from. The father filed a lawsuit on the officer and the court found that since there was no immediate danger to that officer or the public the deadly force was unconstitutional. Added to that, a police officer may not seize an unarmed nondangerous suspect by shooting him dead.
On Monday, May 23, 2016, at approximately 12:45 a.m., I, Trooper Bradley Brachear, received a telephone call from Sergeant Robert Ventura. Sgt. Ventura advised Trooper Bradley Otten of Illinois State Police District 13 requested my assistance with a two-vehicle crash on Illinois Route 4 approximately 0.23 miles south of Norton Lane in Tilden Township, Randolph County. I responded from the Lebanon area to assist. The crash resulted in one fatality.
Both parties in this case agreed that a seizure did occur when Deputy Scott collided with the rear of Harris’ vehicle, but Scott contended that given the circumstances of the chase, his actions were reasonable. Harris attempted to use the standards set in Tennessee v. Garner. The decision in the Garner case was that the officer’s excessive use of force was not reasonable because the suspect did pose an immediate danger to the innocent bystanders, the officer gave no warning, and the excessive force was unnecessary to stop the suspect’s

FACTS: On October 3, 1974, two officers were dispatched to a burglary call. Upon arrival, one officer witnessed a person, Edward Garner, running from the scene. One officer concluded Garner was unarmed and ordered him to stop. Instead of stopping, Garner began climbing a fence. The officer fired shots at Garner, striking him in the back of the head. Garner was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The District Court held that the officer’s actions were in fact constitutional; however, the Court of Appeals reversed.
I have had many encounters with the police here in Texas, and around the country. I have experienced encounters with police in other countries as well. Some positive, and some negative. Even in situations where I thought I was right, every encounter ended with a positive outcome because I took control of the situation. I disarmed the officer with the utmost respect, therefore by putting the officer at ease. From the initial contact, I showed I was no threat. I’ve worked in corrections for over 7 years in another state, and I know the level of commitment officers have with one another. My point here is that I have experienced this issue from both sides of the blue line. I have encountered law enforcement only three times in Texas to date. My

The officer was subsequently charged with the offence of first-degree matter to which he denied and stated that he acted in self-defense.
How did the Kansas City Patrol Study affect routine patrol all across the nation? It affected routine patrol in the fact that It made officers realize that traditional routine patrol in marked police cars did not appear to affect the level of crime. Nor did it affect the public’s feeling of security. The experiment demonstrated that urban police departments can successfully test patrol deployment strategies, and that they can manipulate patrol resources without jeopardizing public safety.
Even before the disaster brought on by Hurricane Katrina, the New Orleans Police Department had serious organizational and reporting issues. According to the United States Department of Justice Civil Rights Division (2011), several patterns were clearly discoverable in the organization, including the excessive use of force, under-reporting of internal issues, discriminatory policing, and the number of misconduct complaints were high. The issues that the Police Force faced for long years before 2005 were, however, only revealed after the flood receded, and an investigation into the internal affairs of the organization started. The below research will attempt to reveal
Communities are the fundamental base of any society’s success. In most cases, communities provide individuals with the essential components to succeed not only singularly but collectively as well. The social interactions between these individuals contribute to either the progression or deterioration of the quality of life of those within the community. A significant factor that plays into the progression or deterioration of a community’s ability to thrive is law enforcement agencies. In a survey that was conducted at Baylor University, students polled local residence on their perspective on the Waco Police Department and their influence on the city of Waco.
