Once there lived a priest in San Luis Potosi, however, one day he decided to take a trip to an unknown destination to collect donations for the church. He was accompanied by two boys who he hired to help him around his house. When he returned he took a walk down an alley to his house where he was brutally murdered. The two teenage boys that the priest had been acquainted with were convicted of his murder and were hung by the neck. After their death, their hands were cut off and dangled on the wall of the alley near the house of the priest as a lesson to the people of the town. Many were terrified to walk down the alley and tried to avoid going down it, however, those who went down it rehearsed a prayer until reaching the end. Eventually, the
Imagine yourself as a young cowboy that has just received a telegram from a man you met during your time in North Dakota. This man was Theodore Roosevelt telling you that he was going to resign as Assistant Secretary of the Navy and help form the 1st U.S Volunteer Cavalry to fight those rotten Spaniards down in Cuba. Being the striking young man that you are you take up his offer and head down to Texas where this new unit will be training for the harsh environment of Cuba. Training in Texas went great, you and everyone else loaded onto a train headed to Tampa Bay Florida expecting to be there in about 4 days. Just as planned you and the other members of the 1st U.S Volunteer Cavalry arrived in Tampa on time. Now is when the unexpected finally hits, the ships that were to carry all of the men and all the horses will in fact not hold all the men, let alone the horses. You sadly had to get the short straw and were forced to be one of the unlucky men that have to stay in the U.S and take care of all the
Growing up in the Rio Grande Valley was an experience like no other. The RGV is full of Tex-Mex, laughs, and the most random things you can think of. Despite all its quirks it’s a beautiful place to live in, and it’s home to me.
Spanish settlers built the Mission San Antonio de Valero, named for St. Anthony of Padua, on the banks of the San Antonio River around 1718. They also established the nearby military garrison of San Antonio de Béxar, which soon became the center of a settlement known as San Fernando de Béxar (later renamed San Antonio). The Mission San Antonio de Valero housed missionaries and their Native American converts for some 70 years until 1793, when Spanish authorities secularized the five missions located in San Antonio and distributed their lands among local residents.Beginning in the early 1800s, Spanish military troops were stationed in the abandoned chapel of the former mission. Because it stood in a grove of cottonwood trees, the soldiers called
After the Friar’s offensive tale, the Summoner “rose in wrath against the Friar”(303). As a bitter response to The Friar’s Tale, the Summoner tells a tale that mocks the Friar. Before his tale, the Summoner mocks the Friar in his prologue. In his prologue, a friar goes to hell with an and he is surprised that of all the friars “none ever come into this place?”(304). The angel then shows the friar “some twenty thousand friars...crept into his (the Devil’s) arse”(304). After his funny prologue, the Summoner then tells his even funnier tale.In The Summoner’s Tale , the tale includes acts of perversion of office committed by the friar. These perversions are mainly related to the Friar’s vow of poverty such as “pretence of praying”(308) for “those who gave him offerings or food”(305).
The struggles of the City of San Bernardino, California are well documented; one of the highest crime rates in the state and the country, extensive acres of urban blight, a median household income under forty-thousand, which has left residents living in poverty, a cash insolvency as a result of mismanagement, which has left the City in chapter nine bankruptcy for three and a half years, and a political climate distorted from lack of experience, and conflicting ideologies and agendas. Also well documented is the strained relationship of between the City and the Unions that represent its employees. Most notably the firefighter’s union, which has sued the City on numerous occasions over pension, overtime and overall work conditions. As part of the City’s plan to exit bankruptcy the firefighters will be annexed into San Bernardino county fire. This moves makes it that much more important for the City and the union to resolve its differences for the good of the firefighters.

Before the missions came to exist the land which is today known as California has already been inhabited by Indigenous people for thousands of years. The land was their treasure and they celebrated in their everyday life while also using its resources. Once Europeans came in the picture the establishment of the missions began. One of these missions was the San Gabriel Arcángel mission. As they were introduced the indigenous people were brought to them with the goal being to Christianize and civilize them.

Growing up in today's technology minded culture, it is sometimes hard to separate from social media, and simply going outdoors. When I graduated high school everyone I asked “What will you be doing this summer” normally answered binge watching their favorite show on Netflix, playing video games, or online summer homework. I wanted to do something different that didn't include me connecting to wifi or reaching for my charger.
Every summer I look forward to sitting on a large, warm cabana under the Texas sun. My feet buried in the sand as I welcome the lukewarm waves against my legs. Being a beach bum in South Padre Island, Texas is a great way to bring on the summer. This island isn’t short of attractions, from the beautiful ocean, to tasty restaurants, to fireworks over the ocean you will never get bored on your vacation! Last summer I was joined by a few of my closest friends. We made so many memories as we all went parasailing for the first time. Our relationship grew stronger as we were able to share a new experience together. Spending a few weeks in South Padre Island with family and close friends is a great way to make memories that will last a lifetime.
The night before the rite of passage was to be performed, the male relatives and community would dance and sing all night in costumes and masks, awakening the boys consecutively to parade them around in the ritual. Before they were about to be “killed”, the mothers would sorrowfully feed their sons a “Last Supper” as if they were still infants. Shortly thereafter, the boys were marched down to a clearing known as the “place of dying”, and suddenly attacked by the guardian males, who held each boy down and circumcised him. Upon having their wounds fully healed, they were then allowed to return unto their village as men.

Since the little boy was board he agreed and he play leprechaun on the way. When he was close to the neighbors house he heard a wierd noise.
The theme in this short story is that blindly following tradition can be very dangerous. This is shown to the reader through the bizarre ritual of murdering innocent people just because tradition says so. The town has become so immersed in this tradition that they fail to see the damage it is creating in their

There was a town in Asia with a large Jewish population. There was one christian school opened up for the Christians to send their children to and it was located in a jewish ghetto. “Where there were Jews, supported by the Crown for the foul lucre of their usury.” (Chaucer 170) A widow’s seven year old son attended this school. He was extremely devoted to his faith. One day the widow’s son was walking home from school singing Alma redemptoris, a song giving praise to Virgin Mary, this made the jews in the city very angry. They were so enraged that they hired someone to murder the boy by slitting his throat and then throwing his body into a cesspit. “Down a dark alley-way they found and hired a murderer owned that secret place.” (Chaucer 173) The boy’s mother looked all night for her son and she begged the Jews to tell her where he is. The jews refused to help the widow. “This wretched widow waited all that night, she waited for her child but all for nought.” (Chaucer 173) Then Jesus gave her the idea to sing in the same place where her son had been thrown into the pit. She sang out to her missing son and, even though his throat was slit, the boy started to sing the Alma redemptoris. The other
