One main reason the Titanic sank was because they did not put much thought into thinking that April Icebergs would be on their path. Tides sent Icebergs southwards which is the path the Titanic made to avoid Icebergs. As well as warnings from other ships about icebergs came too late. A letter that told them exactly where the iceberg was and how it was in the Titanic’s path was not stamped to go to the captain. The Titanic was also going to fast 24 knots which is 27 mph. They were trying to set a speed record for ships that left from England to New York Which should not be done in a icefield. People were also laid back because they thought the Titanic was unsinkable. Binoculars were locked up because a crew member who left by accidently
The Titanic was a ship that sunk during its maiden voyage in 1912. This big ship was on it’s way to New York when it struck an iceberg. It was believed to be “unsinkable” but that night it met it’s fate and sunk killing many passengers. As the story goes they say it’s the icebergs fault for the sinking of the ship. When in reality, the White Star Line was truly at fault for the sinking of the Titanic. They are responsible for this tragedy because they went full speed after ignoring six ice warnings. Not only that but they should've thought of the consequences when they decided to take off lifeboats for more room for luxury items. Then they weren’t prepared and never had any drills or safety procedures for if the ship were to sink.
The British luxury passenger ship, The Titanic, set sail on April 10, 1912, en route to New York City from Southampton (Lord ch 1). During her maiden voyage, midnight of April 15, 1912, she began to sink (ch 1). The Titanic had a collision with an iceberg that was around 100 feet tall (“Titanic: 40 Fascinating Facts” 3). Regardless to how greatly manufactured the Titanic was, and with beliefs that she was unsinkable, the miscalculation of human error proves that every possible outcome cannot be prevented, disasters can still occur regardless of careful planning.
The Titanic tragedy was not a very happy event, but I am here to share my opinion on the causes of the sinking of it.
The Titanic was a passenger ship, not a battleship, so it was not built to take on huge icebergs. It states in the article that nothing was wrong in the building of the Titanic, but anything is possible. Man’s error could have been a big factor with the sinking. The ship was built among time pressures, not because of cost, which put a huge strain on the shipyard. If the builders were given more time, then mayne the ship would have been stronger and could have withstanded more. Higher quality rivets and thicker hulls might have kept the Titanic afloat for much longer.
The sinking of the Titanic is one most well-known shipwreck in modern day history and it's still being written and told about even a century later. The causation of the sinking has been debated heavily since the crash in 1912 and many so-called experts of the titanic disagree with another on this issue. There has been new development when the ship was discovered in 1985 and examined by experts. Leading people that the sinking was caused by three major turning points. The first being the failures of White Star Line who manufacture the ship starting in 1909. The second being the crew of the ship that had some very serve flaws in the plan of action leading up to the disaster. Lastly the passengers who had enough time to prepare before the
Only 651 people had gotten into lifeboats when the Titanic sank. It means first 651 people got into the lifeboats. Then the Titanic sank
Most people believe that the sinking of the Titanic was unavoidable and that there was no way for to avoid the iceberg, but this simply isn’t the case. The reasons as to why the Titanic struck the iceberg and sunk as fast as it did is due to the captain ignoring safety protocols, use of cheaper materials to save money and a design flaw with the ship’s watertight compartments. The first error that lead to the Titanic sinking was due to Captain John Smith ignoring safety protocols. The Olympic, the Titanic’s sister ship, had already sailed the same route that the Titanic was taking and Captain Smith wanted to beat the time that the Olympic took to complete the voyage (Boyle, 2012). As a result, he had the ship travelling at full speed even though
The Titanic sinking of 1912 was a tragic event. This event was a very long time ago (103 years almost 104) but it is still a very historical event, more people should learn about it. Many lives were lost because of this historical boat sinking. 1,503 thousand people died out of 2,208 people total only 705 people survived. The major question still stands; how did the Titanic sink? Most still don’t have answers to this question from the historical event. Will facts about this fatal incident help uncover the truth?
When analyzing this disaster the first thing to consider is the engineer’s design of the Titanic. The Titanic was employing many new and innovative designs that were believed to make the Titanic the safest ship ever built at that time. The engineer’s of the vessel made claims that the Titanic was “unsinkable” and that “even in the worst possible accident at sea, the ship should have stayed afloat for two to three days.” One of the features that lead them to this claim was the 16 watertight compartments in the hull of the ship. The way they were designed allowed for up to four compartments to be breached and they ship would still carry
Disasters aren’t called disasters for nothing. This is portrayed in the sinking of the Titanic. Some disasters are people's fault, and some are natures. This was not the case in the sinking of the R.M.S. Titanic. Bruce Ismay was the owner of the Titanic, and possibly a coward onboard. As the Titanic went down, Ismay jumped on one of the last lifeboats, and survived the sinking. Most of the world thought this was a bad move on his part, as women and children are supposed to survive, if no one else. From then on, he was called the coward of the Titanic.
Even though the Titanic was thought of as a technology masterpiece during that time the sinking of the ship had many engineering falls in design as well as safety procedures. There were many ethical decisions made which resulted in the sinking of the Titanic as well as the number of survivors and deceased. The captain of the Titanic ignored many warnings from the crew and other ships about icebergs. If the captain had made the decision for the ship to slow down, its possible this disaster would not have happened. The Titanic could not afford to slow down and it is believed that pressure was put on the captain to continue the speed of the ship even after the warnings. Competition was so fierce during this time of new passenger liners that they
On the night of April 14, 1912 the world was struck with disaster as the RMS Titanic collided with an iceberg and sunk into the sea. Only 31.6% survived the disaster. In order to understand what factors lead to the highest chances of survival, this project uses a Titanic passenger database and decision trees in order to classify survivors into two groups, survived and perished. Then using this information, rank the most important factors regarding the likelihood of survival. From our experiments we found that the most important factor in surviving the Titanic disaster was title and that a decision tree that created around that variable as its highest level decision had a correct classification rate of 79.425%
During the time that the ship was to be built, The White Line Company was fighting for supremacy over another shipping firm, Cunard. The British firm had two top ranking ships in its ranks and The White Line Company wanted to fight this holding and become the best of the best. In their fight to achieve this, J. Bruce Ismay who was the chief executive of White Star, decided to commission 3 new ships to be built that were bigger and more luxurious that any ship built ever before. The Titanic, the second of the ships to be build took two years to complete from the spring 1909 to the spring of 1911. In the following year, the ship was designed interiorly to help make it a luxury ship. In making the ship though, several mistakes were made that lead to the severity of the disaster. For one, the ships haul had water tight chambers that while were watertight, would allow water to move from one compartment to another. The people involved thought that because of the watertight chambers the ship was unsinkable when in fact these chambers did nothing to stop the ship from sinking. In relation to everyone thinking the ship unsinkable, White Star did not put enough safety boats on the vesicle. They thought the ship to be unsinkable so why put enough safety boats to fit everyone (Titanic,
Over 102 years ago from April 2014, the greatest ship ever built in its time sank. This ship was the “unsinkable” Titanic. The Titanic was built of the best materials during its construction. Being immensely massive and deemed unsinkable, many believed it was nothing but smooth sailing, but many were wrong. The Titanic was a place of romance, mystery, and tragedy. The maiden voyage seemed to be running smoothly, although it turned out to be the last the Titanic would ever take. On that fateful night of 1912, many loved ones were separated, but many refused to leave each other, therefore perishing together. It was a terrifying time for both passengers and crew members. It was one night many would never forget. Through the stories of the survivors, this night will forever be remembered.
The Titanic was the biggest ship of it’s kind when it was built. But it came to end not long after it set sail. Was safety the issue? It was the only cause. For example, my first rule is that there should be 100% transparent communication between captain and crew to passengers, on page 119 it says specifically, “He
