The American Civil War The American Civil War was a war against the North and the South during the 1860’s. The Southern removed themselves from the Union. The U.S didn’t allow states to be removed from the Union. The North also wanted to get rid of Slavery but the South wanted African American slaves to help them and work for them. The War started when the army in the South attacked a military base in South Carolina. The American Civil War was the first war that killed thousands of Americans in history. During the Civil War thousands of Americans soldiers died. United States had the most slaves in the world, but after the Civil War slaves weren’t allowed anymore. The American nation was

The role of the women changed during the war. Political power were going under the control of a single authority. During the war agriculture and manufacturing were needed for the South. Leaders in the South were hoping that European Countries would give up. In the economy, it was a breaking point of the South. Both France and the United Kingdom allowed the south to have warships built in their shipyards. Troops form the confederates weren’t as good as the North was. In the South was plagued with shortages of all kinds. Money was also a problem of the South, to print money to lead to unbelievable increases in the price of everyday items. After the fall of Atlanta, soldiers worried more about their family than staying to fight for their new country. On July 1861, McDowell approached Manassas. McDowell troops and the Union troops composed mainly of poorly trained volunteers clashed on July 21. Northerns predicted that the war would not be over in three months. The confederacy maintained the advantage in the war into late 1862. The battle of Chancellorsville was later seen as one of Lee’s victories of the Civil War. The confederacy remained powerful mid-1863. In Chancellorsville the army had 138,000 men in 1863.
General Robert E. Lee attacked the bull run in Manassas. The Mississippi River was seized by the North in the West.
Senator William H. Seward of New York became Lincoln’s secretary of state. He placed slavery at the heart of the
The Union had two corps led by general Sherman and McPherson at first the battle was only light fighting because of heavy rain at the time but at 11 a.m. and pushed the Confederates back out of Jackson. The loss of the state’s capital was a cause for loss of morale for the defenders at Vicksburg. The union army marched on the Jackson road towards Vicksburg and attack Pemberton’s force on its left. Pemberton then moved his troops on top of Champion Hill. The attack started at about 11:30 a.m. and quickly took the hill and caused the Confederates to retreat to Vicksburg. The retreat got to the Big Black River on May 17 and Pemberton orders three brigades to defend it. The large Union Army quickly caused a retreat and the Confederates set fire to the only two bridges at the site letting the defenses at Vicksburg get more prepared.
The Civil War was one of the darkest times in American History that lasted from 1861 to 1865. It was a war fought primarily over the contrasting beliefs between the southern states who were pro-slavery and the northern states who were anti-slavery. After the election in 1860 of Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth president of the United States, the southern states seceded and formed the Confederate States of America. To this day, it is still unclear whether the southern states had any legal basis for seceding but the fact of the matter is the federal government did not have any power to prevent them at the time. The conflict during the Civil War was whether slavery was morally acceptable but the main reason for the war was states’ rights to own
The Civil War was a time in American history when the nation was divided. In 1860, the nation split into two sides, north and south. These two sides, United States of America and Confederate States of America, went to war for four years. The
By July 1861, the northern press and the public were eager for the Union Army to make an advance on Richmond ahead of the planned meeting of the Confederate Congress there on July 20. Encouraged by early victories of Union troops in western Virginia, and by the war fever spreading through the North, President Abraham Lincoln ordered Brigadier General Irvin McDowell to mount an offensive that would hit quickly and decisively at the enemy and open the way to Richmond, thus bringing the war to a quick end. The offensive would begin with an attack on Confederate troops under the command of General P.G.T. Beauregard camped near Manassas Junction, Virginia (25 miles from Washington, D.C.) along a little river known as Bull Run.
During the American Civil War, the United States was plagued with conflict, struggle, and copious amounts of spilled blood. Furthermore, countless battles were fought to decide the fate of slavery and the Union as a whole. However, one of these battles in particular, the Chancellorsville Campaign, should definitely be one of interest. Taking place after the “horror of Fredericksburg,” an event in which the Union Army of the Potomac failed to take the city of Fredericksburg, Virginia in 1862 (Bowery and Doss 27), the Chancellorsville campaign lasted from May 1 to May 5, 1863. It was an attempt by the Union to destroy the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia that resulted in disaster for both sides. (“Battle of Chancellorsville,” Brittanica) As a matter of fact, the Chancellorsville Campaign was such a significant development in the course of the Civil War that many happenings in this battle have affected both the rest of this era and the years beyond.
Lee at that point moved his troops northwards and split his men, sending Jackson to meet Pope's powers close Manassas, while Lee himself moved independently with the second 50% of the armed force. On August 29, Union troops drove by John Pope struck Jackson's strengths in the Second Clash of Bull Run (Second Manassas). The following day, Lee hit the Government left flank with a monstrous strike, driving Pope's men back towards Washington. On the foot sole areas of his triumph at Manassas, Lee started the primary Confederate intrusion of the North. Notwithstanding opposing requests from Lincoln and Halleck, McClellan could redesign his armed force and strike at Lee on September 14 in Maryland, driving the Confederates back to a guarded
The American Civil War, also known as the Civil War, lasted from 1861 to 1865. The war was to determine the survival of the union, or independence for the confederate states. Some would argue that slavery was the principle cause of the war. After much research, I believe the war started because of the misunderstandings, and conflicts between the North and South. Slavery, however, was one of the main purposes. The North and South had economic and social differences causing many disagreements. They argued about state and federal rights, expansion of slave states, the Abolition Movement, and the election of Abraham Lincoln.
The Civil War was known as the most bloodiest war. It resulted in 620,000 deaths and more than millions injured. The Civil War was a conflict with the Union against the Confederate states of America. The civil war mainly started because of conflicts between the free states and the slaves states. People did not want slaves in territories that were not yet states. In the election of 1860, Abraham Lincoln won the presidency. He wanted slavery out of territories. As a result, the south seceded to form the Confederate states of America. Life during the Civil War was horrific because the conditions were detrimental Life in the military camps was as deleterious as it was on the battlefield.
The Civil War was a very serious war that occurred in the 1800’s. It was a sad and bloody battle that lasted four years. The war was caused for many reasons. It was a conflict between the North and South. The South wanted slaves and they thought the north wanted to end the souths way of life and free their slaves. Slavery was needed for the south. It was how the south made most of their money.
The United States has been involved in a lot of wars and battles throughout the past. The Civil War was one of the most significant moments in the history of the United States of America. The Civil War took place between the North and South of the United States of America following the Confederacy seceding from the Union after Abraham Lincoln’s presidency and fought to maintain their independence. The war started off as a war regarding the rights of the different states. As the war progressed, it ended up turning into a war about freedom, slaves, white Northerns rioting against the draft and black Americans, Union troops, and much more.
The civil war was a war against the north and south it the United States. The war began because they north did not agree with what the South was doing with the African Americans. The south was using them as slaves making them do all of the white man’s dirty work. Besides doing there work they were beaten, starved, and poorly clothed to work in such horrible conditions. The north tried to help the slaves sometimes by ether buying them then would take them to the north so that they were a free. They also had the underground rail road where some of the whites would help escape to the north. Then Abe Lincoln became president and declared war against the south to end all slavery, and also to
The civil war was a war that took place from 1861 to 1865. It was fought between the Union, otherwise known as the North, and the Confederates, also known as the South. The war was started because the Confederacy wanted to leave the US and become its own country. But the North would not allow it. The war is significant because it freed the slaves. Also, it was significant because it kept the country together. Lastly, the Civil War is significant because it put an end to a hate driven culture and taught people to accept others despite their differences.
The Civil War of America, was one of the bloodiest in history. The United States had a Civil War because of slavery. The north wanted to get rid of slavery, while the south wanted to keep it. The tensions got extremely high until Abraham Lincoln was elected president. That was the last straw. The south seceded and formed the Confederacy, while the north became known as the Union. The two armies had many differences.
The Battle of Gettysburg began on July 1, with Confederate troops attacking a Union cavalry division on McPherson Ridge, west of town. After fierce fighting and heavy casualties on both sides, and the Union forces managed to hold, and even drive back the Confederate forces until afternoon, when they were overpowered by additional southern troops, and driven back through town. In the confusion, thousands of Union soldiers
The Civil War was one that would change America forever; and this was one that was fought over beliefs and one people’s lively hood rather than land or riches. Many people believe that the Civil War was fought because of the conversional issue on slavery, however there was much more to the Civil War than merely slavery. The Civil War was the first war to be fought on the grounds of the United States since the War of 1812 were they defeated the invading British. The people who fought in this war would be one that would define who they were and what it as a nation would become. The Civil War was fought from views that are different than those that were for slavery and those who were against slavery. The South wanted freedom to choose what they believed that was right and the North felt like they had to control the country from the Federalist view. At the outset of the American Civil War the South was right in its decision in seceding from the Union because of the political and financial pressures put upon them.
