Satire Essay On Animal Farm By George Orwell

If animals could talk, think, and feel like humans, what would happen? The answer: revolution. Animal Farm, by George Orwell, is a political satire in which animals exhibit behaviors and ideas that mimics communist Russia. In Animal Farm, the character Boxer and his experiences relate to this theme: In society, individuals are not treated equally; this relationship demonstrates flaws in the practices of the ideals of communism.

In George Orwell’s novel, Animal Farm was based on a political allegory based on Orwell’s experience in the Revolution. The characters in the novel were based on those whom Orwell knew. Throughout the book, my understandings of the three characters Boxer, Mollie and Napoleon were of different personalities. There were a lot of conflicts both internal and external and the author used elements of satire to blend politics and art. To me the book was giving a fair idea of how the powerful and intelligent life treated the low and unintelligent ones. The setting of Animal Farm was in England and the different animals that were used to symbolize persons from the Spanish Civil War in the book were mainly pigs, horses and dogs etc. The novel basically tells the story of a group of animals who were ruled by pigs.

During the early 1900’s wars and revolutions were raging all around the world. George Orwell in Animal Farm expresses the political tendencies of those who have and those who lack education through characters such as Squealer, Napoleon, Muriel, and Benjamin. In Animal Farm, the message George Orwell sends to his audience is that there is power in obtaining an education that saves one from being bamboozled. The first way Orwell expresses the importance of education is through the pigs, who were the most educated animals on the farm. Within “three months” the pigs had “taught themselves to read and write,” which leads to them having the most power (Orwell 23).

“It’s always tough being the fat kid in school, it must be extra tough being the only fat kid in you entire country.” This is a quote about Kim Jong-Un who is notorious for being one of the most corrupted dictators ever. The reason he is corrupt is one simple word: power. The importance of our argument is that power corrupts those who posses it. There are corrupt people in this world who will do anything to gain power. This argument is based upon the themes represented in Animal Farm, created by George Orwell, it is an allegorical, satirical, dystopian novel. Everything in life has choice, even down to what you choose to say to others. Words are more powerful than we could imagine. They can be used for greeting one another, complimenting one another, but the meaning behind words can be manipulated. In George Orwell’s novel, Animal Farm, he shows the worst of manipulation in a setting of war. He demonstrates that words are just as powerful as weapons. Not only is it an outstanding novel, but it warns us what words under propaganda can do, from “Glittering” to the “Plain Folks”, and even evoking fear. Words allow the intelligent pigs to play the animals like puppets, and return them to slavery.

The Narrator claims,“In past years Mr. Jones, although a hard master, had been a capable farmer, but of late he had fallen on evil days”(Orwell 38). In Animal Farm, George Orwell describes life for the animals on a farm in the English countryside during the mid to early 20th century before, during and after a revolution against their master, Mr.Jones. Orwell does this to represent the Russian revolution and describe to people throughout the free world how leaders in both capitalist and communist societies oppress the working class. Because Orwell is a democratic socialist and does not accept the ideologies of Marxism, he reveals the reality of communism and reflects his opinions through sardonic situations that occur among animals. The state of communism that Marx and Friedrich Engels describe is where the state is abolished, people live in a society where members work together in agreement and no one is exploited, and every member shares the rewards of hard work. Animal Farm is a political satire it is also a fable, complete with talking animals. In the novel, the the animals of Manor Farm rebel against the cruelty of Farmer Jones, at first the animals in Orwell’s novel work fairly well together soon the pigs usurp power over all the other animals. “All animals are equal but some animals are more equal then others” the pigs post this proclamation on the barn, it’s the most famous quotation from Animal Farm.

The animals begin to make deals with the humans because there was talk of how bad Manor Farm was now that animals ran it and they got people to spread a good word throughout the country. The animals trade eggs for more grain and rations with the humans on other farms. One night, the windmill on which they had worked over a year was destroyed. Napoleon blamed it all on Snowball, who was no longer present on the farm. When the animals first started living on their own on the farm, they stated that all human contact was forbidden. Animal Farm is a story set on a typical English farm.
