Upon the first examination of the scholar practitioner, it seems clear that this role explores real-world solutions to problems rooted in research that effectively advances the literature of the field in a timely, relevant manner (Short, 2011). But there is a natural almost co-dependent relationship to scholarship and practice that can be described as the joining of two areas that contribute equally to the improvement of the given field of study (Snow, 2015). In consideration of this symbiotic relationship between concept and practice, Nganga suggests that often that the relationship occurs organically but grows as our interests and experiences evolve (Nganga, 2011). What is clear is that there is no direct path to becoming a scholar
The purpose of this assignment is that I will be reflecting on my own engagement in professional relationships and establish key skills that underpin lifelong learning. I will also be looking into how to perform evidence-based practice and reflect on my capabilities and weaknesses identified in my SWOT analysis (see appendix 1) and personal development plan (see appendix 2).
The three organizations that I have researched and believe will make a great community partnerships for Reading Partners DC are United Planning Organizations, AmeriCorps NCCC Atlantic Region and Jack and Jill of America Incorporated. These organizations all have the spirit of service in the forefront of their organizations mission and have a strong desire to Improve the services provided to DC residents.
In this paper I will discuss the concept Practitioner-Scholar Learning Model. I will compare this model with the Reflective-Practitioner Learning Model and explain what being a Practitioner-Scholar means to me as a learner at Capella and as a professional out in the working field. For me the first step in the completion of this assignment was to define the concepts of scholar, practitioner, reflective-practitioner and practitioner-scholar. Dictionary.com defines Scholar as a learned or erudite person, especially one who has profound knowledge of a particular subject (Scholar,
Throughout the passage, John M. Barry uses a variety of methods to describe the process of scientific research. The author gives us long metaphor where a scientific investigator is like a pioneer in an unexplored region of the world. The author also gives us a little bit of background information on characterizations needed for scientific research.
I am applying to be a Resident Advisor to be able to get the opportunity to be apart of the East Carolina welcoming committee for new students moving in. I want to help make sure that the students staying in the dorms are safe and comfortable with their living arrangements. As a freshman, I know that living away from home and starting college can be tough. I want to be able to create a home away from home for them to feel comfortable in. I communicate effectively, I am approachable, and a leader. These qualities I say best describe me as a person. By having great communication skills it will help me as an RA to effectively communicate to people that live in the dorms about rules and regulations. Also by having great communication skills, I
Have you ever wondered who was behind the calls made to the state, regarding certain things like Medicare, or benefits and many other things like that? Although many people lose patience quickly when things do not go their way, they do not understand that these telephone workers are doing the most they can to help. In fact, these case workers go through many trainings and require special education to be able to do the things they do for their clients.
What I learnt from the third video and the transcript from Amy Barkley a PTA from Michigan, which I didn’t know before is that, in some state like Michigan, You could worked as PTA without being licensed. But things have changed. Now, you have to be a graduate from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program and also pass a state exam to earn a license.
Wieser’s mentorship, in my mind, displays the importance of the Leadership Alliance’s goal to develop a diverse research workforce. As an Indigenous woman, Dr. Wieser’s mentorship not only assisted me in developing my ideas, but it also served to create a cultural and Indigenous space for me to exist and work within academia. Not unlike the Leadership Alliance’s goals, Dr. Wieser’s mentorship has helped and continues to help prepare me to be competitive within the academic and clinical workforce and makes an essential investment in altering the space within the academy through challenging long-held and exclusionary cultural mores which create sclerotic institutional praxis. Her investment is not simply in me, but in the creation of scholars and scholarship which are not only interdisciplinary, but exemplary. The Leadership Alliance is no different, it is committed to moving beyond where we are into a future that has become fruitful through a deep investment in intellectual capacity which will radically change the values and practices of the spaces we come to inhabit. Building a diverse research workforce is more than simply channeling money or assigning scholarships or even offering admissions, it’s about being dedicated to a scholar, to seeing them through every step of the way and creating a foundational leadership that not only reflects the needs and desires of marginalized students, but who will work to overturn the very structures which prevent such
I believe that the most challenging aspect of being a Texas Department of Family and Protective Services Investigator would be having to work in depressing or sad situations, and making the right judgement calls on cases. I know that I will see tough situations in this field, but you have to put your emotions aside and remain professional. I believe I have the ability to do that, while still feeling compassion for those involved in the situation. Also, I realize that you have to be able to make judgement calls in situations like these. As said in the video, everything will not be black and white but you need to be confident in the decisions you make. I believe that I have the ability to use proper judgment, and with proper training I will feel confident about the decisions I make pertaining to my job.
For example, if students are studying rocks, they are in the mindset of a geologist, thereby immersing themselves in the entire process of learning and understanding. Scope and sequence of what is taught as well as methodology are the main part of the structure of Scholar Academics, incorporating the search for knowledge by scholars to dissemination of that knowledge by teachers to students. It helps students “acquire rich academic content” (Harris, as cited in Schiro, 2007, p. 37). and develop the ability to think
Onur Sarac, who stands out from his colleagues with his continuous desire to learn and research, carries the potential for both professional and academic development.
A Practitioner is someone who is engaged in a particular area of study, discipline, and practice, usually found in the religious, arts, or medical fields. It is a person who practices his or her profession on a regular basis and has expertise in their occupation. People come to practitioners expecting them to have answers and experience. As preachers of the gospel we need to know, understand, relate, and diagnose the malaise of humanity
There are many ways that theory and practice are connected. “According to Knowles, Holton, and Swanson (2015) “A theory is a comprehensive, coherent and internally consistent system of ideas about a set of phenomena” (p.11). Therefore practice is connected to theory because of the sets of ideas pursued in psychology. For example a psychologist can study a person with bipolar and suggest different therapies. Also theory and practice is connected because in order to asses a client a professional has to have several answers to what could be wrong. In the chapter it connects with learning and how and individual grows to develop. So with practice it helps a person to develop just like a theory. As said by Knowles, Holton and Swanson “A good theory
Much of my family comes from India, a nation where dedication, hard work, education, community, religion and family are valued above all else. Hearing the call to achieve these standards, many in my family were called early on into the field of academia and have remained vital fixtures in this field for many years. However, with academia comes a quest for ever-increasing knowledge, and perhaps the most valuable way to attain this knowledge is to move from the page to the real world in
Now I am a PhD student, and I have done many research projects and think back about what the changes that happened to me since I started graduate school. Many thoughts came to my mind. I looked back, and I remembered myself one year ago. Actually many things have changed in my personality. I started to look at the people through a different lens, and that I accept every opinion from anyone. I do not judge people anymore because I know people have different issues in their lives that they went through, and those personal issues have shaped their lives. I developed a passion for helping others, even though my schedule is so tight (family and schoolwork) but I enjoy helping others and listing to everyone who is in need. Reading Hample’s article shed some light on many things I have never thought about. The knowledge domains in Hample article are area, connections, epistemology, pedagogy, profession, and politics. All of these domains were explained in details how the PhD student has expanded his knowledge toward his area of specialty through many things such as looking for connections from another specialty. Because producing knowledge is a gathering of information, it does not build from one person” whenever two or three are gathered together, someone spills the milk!” I also noticed that being an academic is not only to teach, but to deliver your message to everyone especially to those who will make a difference in our community. To build a good foundation of your
