School Should Be Longer

Do you think we should have longer school days? We should not have longer school days because although it gives teachers more to talk about problematic areas, it will not help kids, considering the method they use are using to teach is not working. We should not have longer school days, longer school days will intrude students’ time to be active and shorter school days can help with academic achievement.

    An article from The Wichita Eagle really focuses on one family and how the change to longer school days has impacted them and their first-grade son. It also has some views from a few other parents and a couple of teachers and board members.

It is evident that the state should extend many school's starting time , and even consider year round school . Others may disagree and think that schools should remain the same time and not change but i feel diffrent . The first reason why I feel like the state should extend school times back by atleast 30-40 minutes is because it will actually help them stay focused in class by giving them more time to to get them selfs ready to learn at school and the time can let them sleep for at least 10-15 minutes longer. Many teachers and staff are noticing that students sleep in class most of the time and the average high school student is recommended with at least 8.5-9.25 hours of sleep on school nights as stated in the text . In the entire world, America is placed 48th and Japan is 1st in school rankings. I believe Japan is only in 1st because they have an all year round school so they get more enrichment. On the other hand, USA has many breaks such as summer, winter, spring, and maybe ski-week. Schools should lengthen our hours not just to be in a higher ranking but also for students to get more enrichment. First of all, if we lengthen our school hours the students get extra improvement and instruction. This extra time can give teachers more time to answer questions and give more experience. This information is one example of many studies that illustrate that long school days have a great positive impact on school performance. The main school goals are improving students’ knowledge and building different skills that will help them in the future. Therefore, if longer school days support these educational goals, people should be concerned about improving schools by lengthening the day.

Should we make school start times longer? I think we should because 80% of U.S schools start before 8:30am and that's not an efficient time.Parents also need to drop off their kids early in the morning and still need to work until 9pm (that's late hours).That shows that parents and also the students aren't getting enough sleep to get through their day.

Introduction:I disagree with adding another hour of school because the students don't need to be at school all day.They need to be at home so they can rest,do other things.

How would parents like it if their children came home late and had to rush to do all of their homework in a short period of time before dinner and/or bed?  This would cause quality time to create a family bond to dramatically . So in return, children who not home spending time with their family, they are creating weak family relationships. When a weak family is existent  a large amount lot of conflicts will break a family apart. If the school board chooses to make school days longer it will affect students by giving them less time to study, it will take longer for children to see their parents and in return, it will create weak families that will break apart because they won't know them like they should and it will take away time to use for fun because you are only a kid once.

The school board plans to add one and a half hours to school each day, and I don’t think that's a good idea. For one, most kids don’t get enough sleep at night, and by 3:07 they’re ready to go home and go to sleep. If we extend school hours most kids will be sleeping in class, and then won’t be learning anything. Second, most kids parents work at different times and that would just mess their schedule up. Say if the child parents needs to be at work at 3:20, and needs there child to be there to take care of their little siblings. If we get out later than 3:07 it would mess that up. While some schools have hours of learning in schools, Anaheim schools only has around 7 hours. In order to increase student success at Anaheim schools we must have longer school hours because it will help us prepare for college and be successful. “Our kids are spending fifty to sixty percent more time learning than the traditional public school student” (12). School seems to be stressful enough as It is, so why make the day longer? School Is an eight hour long process of continuous thinking and to make it better, most of us students have three or more hours of homework to do. Why would it make any sense to torture us even more?
