In 2015, I was nominated to participate in the eleventh and twelfth grade Science Olympiad and won first place over-all against sixty-four teams. I competed in the Science Olympiad regional competition. The competition focused on physical science, the nature of science, Earth science, and space science. in 2013, I also was recognized with an award in biology for biology and environmental science. Being a part in these opportunities strengthened my passion for
During my eighth grade year, I was voted president for both student council and National Junior Honor Society. I also participated in the first middle school division competition for Cyber Patriots and placed fourth in the nation. I received an award from the Mayor of San Antonio for this achievement.
Science has always intrigued me. Therefore, being able to join the science honor society and explore its activities brings me euphoric joy. Joining the society would allow me acquire more knowledge about science. It would also provide me a platform where I can share my ideas on various topics in science. For my undergraduate degree, I plan on majoring in neuroscience as a stepping stone to medical school. I am curious about the brain and all its hidden potential that has yet to be explored by man. I am also interested in stem cells and their uses, and I would like to go into in-depth research about them for the science honor society project.
I believe that The Helix Summer Science Institute is not solely an enriching academic experience, but also a social engagement opportunity. I believe that I would make an excellent student at the Helix Summer Science Institute 2016 because, by enhancing my understanding of the practical and theoretical aspects of science, I would be able to integrate this knowledge into my life. This academically rigorous program presents me with the opportunity to acquire methodical, logical and practical skills that are applicable to the real world. I am a very studious, motivated and passionate student, who perseveres in the face of adversity, while always respecting my peers. I embrace diversity, and believe that success is achieved through collaboration. I have a passion for science and public outreach, and I believe that these interests are connected.
I am delighted to announce that I am running for the presidential position of Science National Honors Society, which has truly been one of the most active clubs at Clements High School this year! In doing so the club has genuinely lived up to its motto of "Promoting Science, Service, and Leadership". Hearty congratulations to all the current officers for successfully re-establishing the SNHS standards at Clements High School after a year of hardships. From the establishment of Pat Cave to volunteering at Westbury Community Garden, active involvement in SNHS has given me a rigorous introduction to application of scientific concepts to real life problems. At the same time, this club has taught me how to sincerely appreciate nature, specifically
One new addition to Science National Honor Society at school that I spearheaded is "This Month in Science". The central purpose of this activity is to share out different discoveries or improvements in science that interest us and spark meaningful conversation and interest in science in general. Different board members have shared innovations in biotechnology, space exploration, or even new apps that give advanced warnings for earthquakes. This has been an excellent addition to our monthly meetings since it provides an opportunity for me to speak out about things that really interest me, such as improvements in Wendelstein 7-X or the sensationalized "new bond type", a Rydberg molecule. As my favorite facet of Science National Honor Society,
Academics have been my primary strength throughout my high school career. Since Grade 9, I have maintained an average over 95%, thus receiving Silver Medal every year; my final graduating average will most likely be 96.2%. My scholarly success is illustrated in the high number of subject awards I have received - ten awards in three years. In addition, I have competed in various math and computing contests, such as the Galois, for which I placed first in the school, and the AMC 12B, as well as the University of Toronto Biology Competition.
Science has always been my passion. It started before Science Center of Iowa preschool and flourished throughout high school, where I took advantage of every advanced science course and enrichment opportunity. When I began college, I fervently pursued the biological sciences. I was fascinated with disease mechanisms and the functions of the human body. I began working at the Iowa State University Clinical Veterinary Pathology Laboratory where I delved deeper
Science has always been one of my favorite subjects, an always found myself fascinated by it. In elementary school, while most of my classmates dreaded going to school, I always looked forward to it. Everyday I would make sure to get to school early, because I just couldn’t wait to see what new things we would learn each day. My eagerness to learn hasn’t changed as I have gotten older. Although attending Harper College has allowed me to obtain my associate's degree, I am now ready to move on and work towards earning my bachelor's degree in Speech and Hearing Science.
In undergrad, I volunteered my time as a teacher for the Saturday Science Academy on the campus of Charles R. Drew University. My work with the high school students reminded me that to make a difference, you must first care about the individual and understand their circumstances. The Saturday Science
I am writing today to express my interest and qualifications for New York State Science Honor Society. I feel that my personal background makes me uniquely qualified for such a prestigious program. I am very excited to, hopefully, bring my special set of skills to this outstanding program.
Why do you want to be a part of the National Science Bowl Executive Board? *
When I was a kid, I never wore shoes during the summer. There was something always so serene about touching barefoot to dirt; it was splendid. Since maturing into my now adult self, I realized that running through the woods with my feet unprotected is probably not the best idea for a variety of reasons, however the image of my child-self running through the woods behind my home in Southwestern Pennsylvania elucidates a significant point here: I love planet Earth. In an incredibly geeky manner, I am truly passionate about the environment and finding sustainable solutions to ensure that generations to come can share the same experiences I had as a child growing up, running through the woods during a warm summer day.
The opportunity presented itself to enroll in a new program designed for students focused in science, titled “Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Biomedical Science.” I was among seven students to be the first to graduate with a PLTW certification from Carroll County High School. Throughout high school, I took advance placement courses, I was top five in my class, and I participated in many clubs and activities. Among these were: PKOM (Panther Kick-Off Mentor), National Honor Society, STLP (Student Technology Leadership Program), Pep Club, decorating committee, prom committee, prom court, homecoming court, yearbook, Young Leaders, and varsity volleyball. Staying busy was no task for me in those four years.
I am interested in joining Science Olympiad because I enjoy experimenting and learning new things. I participated in Science Olympiad last year and it was an amazing experience. Science Olympiad was an opportunity for me to further explore science, aerodynamics, and chemistry. I will be dedicated to the team and I will work hard. Also, I will be responsible and focused on whatever tasks I’m given.
An olympiad is a time period greeks used. They used it to count from one olympic game to the next. The greeks didn't have great sense of time so a past year was hard to refer to. An olympiad is four modern years but would be 1 year in the past. Some olympiads were named after prominent officials, but later numbering was introduced making it easier.
