The scientific theory of Evolution had been introduced by Charles Darwin in 1859. Although Evolution was just a theory, Darwin had the speculation that there was more to the idea. I believe that Evolution did occur, but not without the help of a higher being. Although I do believe in Evolution I am convinced that Creationism ties into the concept of Evolution. “The name Pangaea was coined by Alfred Wegener, Chief proponent of Continental Drift in 1915.”, (Science Daily). Wegener believed that Pangaea formed 300 million years ago, due to continental drift, which was later discovered as tectonic plate movement. Pangaea, scientists believe, existed during the Permian and Triassic geological time periods, which were times of great change. The supercontinent was surrounded by a global ocean called Panthalassa which assembled in the first part of the Permian era. Throughout the span of Earth’s history there has been numerous Pangaea-like supercontinents. Moreover, the alternative supercontinents were said to have been formed during the Precambrian time some 1 billion years ago. For this reason I looked into the movement of tectonic plates, in present time. Recently I have found that plate motions are bringing the continents together once again. “Africa has begun to collide with southern Europe, and the Austrian Plate is now colliding with Southeast Asia”, (Encyclopedia, Pangaea). In addition to tectonic plate movement, fossil evidence proves that Pangaea did in fact exist. Some fossil counts have shown similar species on continents thousands of miles apart. Additional evidence concludes that Pangaea has matching geological trends between the eastern coast of South America and the western coast of Africa. While I was researching Pangaea, the idea came acrossed my mind; what if Pangaea had help from a higher being, like God, rather than tectonic plates. I acknowledge that Pangaea is the concept of all the land masses on Earth, were at one time, connected, but I think that God had something to do with it. Mutation- Most mutations have no negative evolutionary consequences, some of them however can be fatal. They are the only way that new genetic material and variation is introduced into the genome. Some mutations occur for unknown reasons. There are two different types of mutations; point and chromosomal. Point mutations are caused either by base substitutions or base insertion and deletion. The change in the bases has the ability to change the codon, therefore it can alter the amino acid sequence. The process of evolution by natural selection begins with the overproduction of offspring, continues with the variation of these offspring, then the selection of the offspring that best fit the environment, and finally, the acclimatization of these offspring to their surroundings. While these steps don’t necessarily have a concrete duration of time in which they take place, the process follows this general pattern. Overproduction is necessary to be able to select from the most “suitable” or “fitting” offspring from a sizeable group.
