Second Amendment to the US Constitution

The Second Amendment was very important to the Constitution and was included because the government wanted the people to be able operate weapons, defend and fight when they were called upon to do so. When the Constitution was written, we had just ended a fight for independence from England. As a newly free county, without organized militia, as we have today, it was necessary that every person be able to fight.

Ratified December 15, 1791, the bill of rights was added to the U.S. Constitution as a way to ensure the protection of every individual’s rights. The bill itself is a list of rights which limits the power of the federal government and gives power back to the people in the form of rights and liberties. Some of this rights include freedom of speech, religion, and press, but perhaps the one right that still to this day has many people questioning the meaning behind its wording is the Second Amendment. The Second Amendment states that “a well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed” (Acosta, 2008). In December 1791, the Second Amendment was made: The Second Amendment offers “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep arms, and shall not be infringed.” This basically means United States gives the right to its residents to keep arms, and it guaranteed individuals the right to possess arms for their own personal defense. In the past few decades there been thousands of pages that are written seeking to uncover the meaning of the “the people,” and “bear arms,” have been strongly debated.

The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution is the amendment of the United States Bill of Rights that protects the right to keep and bear arms. The amendment clearly states that a well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. This means that citizens of the United States shall be able to carry firearms within reason to do so, when pertaining to safety. The Second Amendment has been disputed over the years and has become very controversial for many reasons. On one hand, it is considered to be one of the most important amendments in the Constitution because it presents the citizens of the United States with a means to protect themselves. On the other hand, some feel that over the years, certain citizens have over stepped their second amendment rights and as a result, there have been a number of national tragedies with numerous casualties.

The Second Amendment to the Constitution gave United States citizens the right to bear arms. Although, the Second Amendment stated: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms. However, the framers could not foresee the type of violence we have in our cities today. Innocent citizens have and are being brutally killed due to this amendment. Stricter gun control laws must be enacted to receive these types of weapons.

The second amendment reads: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed” (United States Constitution). This amendment was made in order to keep the freedom of the people of the United States safe from a tyrannical government. This is not only inferred from but proved by the words, “being necessary to the security of a free State”.

Ever since the beginning of American Revolution in April 1775, Americans have sought to create a nation with no ties to the British monarch and create and more, perfect union. They decided to create a democratic, republic government consisting of voted officials voted by the people, governed by a system of checks and balances with limited powers and the purpose of providing protection and services to its citizens. However, The Founding Fathers believed that should the government decide to eliminate civil rights, the citizens of the U.S. must be able to defend their rights. The First Congress created the Second Amendment, the right for an individual to keep and bear arms and the right for a state or local government to create and maintain a militia. However, the Second amendment is the most controversial amendment in the Bill of Rights as many people believed that the amendment only allows for state militia and not the ownership of firearms. Firearms have both directly and indirectly affected the American culture with both positive and negative effects. Some organizations have both protected our right to bear arms while others have protested congress to abolish the second amendment.

The second amendment was likely created because while Britain had ruled America, there was a standing army in the colonies. The Americans no longer trusted standing armies. Instead, they had they had state militias that made up of volunteers. This is important because it helps insure that tyranny will not occur by spreading out the privilege of governing military forces to officials that are elected by the people. The second amendment is the law that states that all americans have the right to own and carry a weapon. A law which is being discussed a lot in the media, especially after the tragic school shooting events and so on. In the US it is a "human right" being able/allowed to own and carry a weapon. The second amendment was written with a motive stating that weapons should be used as protection under the Civil War, and to make smaller armies based on the individual's own weapons. That way the military wouldn"t have to distribute weapons to the people because many already had their own. We have the Second Amendment because it does make us safer. Everyone that wants a gun can have a gun so that they can protect themselves or others when needed. You would feel like you would have a little bit of freedom. The Second Amendment became a law on September 25, 1789 with nine other Amendments. The first Ten Amendments were made by James Madison. The reason that the Second Amendment is in the second spot is because James Madison thought that the Right to Own Bear Arms was the second most important in the Bill of Rights. The Second Amendment did not work in other countries
