Self-reliance versus Inter-relationship
In the movie Gattaca, Vincent is very reliant on other people. He reaches his end goal by being self-reliant, but self-reliance is only a part of succeeding in life. Vincent depended on many other people like Jerome, Anton and Irene to shape him and push him into the type of person he is. Inter-relationships are a very important part of succeeding in life. He could have never got to where he was in life if it wasn’t for the help of primarily those three people. This essay will examine the Inter-relationships of Jerome, Anton, and Irene’s relationship with Vincent along with self-reliance and how they differ and relate.
There is a fish called a Remora. It’s a sucker fish that attaches itself to whales. The sucker fish feeds off the whale, while the whale is being cleaned. The animal benefits of having unwanted parasites eaten off them. The sucker fish benefits by having something to eat. They both use each other, but it is more beneficial to the one than the other. The Remora fish doesn’t have another fish attached to them. Jerome and Vincent have a relationship like that also. They both use each other collectively to advance to where they want to be in life. Vincent uses Jerome to get a job at Gattaca. Jerome benefits by getting paid and living in the shadows. This interrelationship was very important because they advanced to the places they wanted to be by using each other to get to the top. It is healthy to use one another for good

The importance of cherishing the invaluable individuals in one’s life is apparent in Matthew Teague’s personal journey of his wife’s battle against cancer and a genuine friendship. “The Friend” depicts emotional appeal, comparisons, and vivid imagery to portray the significance of valuing loved ones. There is no single definition for a loved one. A spouse, children, family, friends, the reciprocated love can build everlasting bonds, but why is it so important to treasure the relationships we have? Just because they are family, it may not signify that we love them; just because they are acquaintances, it does not necessarily indicate that we have a type of love for them either. The pure love we possess for someone is rare and never chosen or obliged, so this valuable love should be nurtured, for people are bound within unpredictable time limits. Nichole’s, Teague’s wife’s, diagnosis of cancer was a realization for him that his days with her were numbered. Along the way, Dane Faucheux, the couple’s friend, was devoted to aiding the Teague family during their struggling time. Faucheux’s undisputed support for Teague and his family surprised him numerous times throughout their experience. This love in the sublime story is seeped with appreciation for those Teague values in his life. The realization and worth of his deep endearment for his family and friend is transferred to the reader, and he or she begins to realize the reality of the given time to value those who are most important.
Antonio, who has begun to discover the importance of independence, must use this to his mother, who has her own vision of his future. The fact that he holds this value signifies growth in Tony’s character, and his continuing development into a man.
There are many characteristics that could impact one’s life in a negative way causing them to lose everything in life such as selfishness, messiness, untrustworthiness, self-righteousness, or ego. In the award-winning musical, Hamilton: The Revolution, by Lin-Manuel-Miranda, the character of protagonist, Alexander Hamilton may be described in many ways. However, one character trait stands out among the rest. The main character trait of Alexander Hamilton, self-righteousness, shaped everything about his life: how he grew up, how he dominated in debates, and even how he fell from grace. Hamilton always stuck by his ideals, not caring whether it affected other people. These traits led him to lose and gain

Self image is crucial for an individual’s sense of well being. It can also be a source for their identity and dreams for the future. As well, others’ impressions of the individual considerably affects their view of themselves. This interaction can either build their self esteem or tear it down. In his short story, “The Glass Roses”, Alden Nowlan explores the idea that when an individual is coming of age and is struggling to determine their identity, how others’ perceive them - specifically father figures - deeply influences how they perceive themselves. Stephen, the protagonist, is a fifteen year old boy on the cusp of adulthood working in his father’s woodcutting company. As he finds fascination in beauty and feels enslaved by the work, he fails to gain his father’s approval and falls to depression. Fortunately, he forms a friendship with the Polack, who provides a kinder definition of being a man as well as a hope for the future.

For instance, the relationship between Mattie and Taylor is symbiotic and leads to the two growing a deeper connection through their support of each other. Taylor states that, “In many ways it was a perfect arrangement. You couldn’t ask for better than Mattie. She was patient and kind and let me bring in Turtle when I needed to” (81). Self-reliance was seen in most of our films. In the Waitress, Jenna Hunter shows utter obedience to her husband, Earl. Her escape was baking pies, all kinds of pies.
