As a high school senior we look into what we want to do in our future. A big part of that is college. How do students know what college has the best opportunities? How do future students narrow down their options? A few things to look at when choosing a college includes the major of your interest, the campus, dorms, and class size.
The first thing to consider looking at when choosing a college is whether it has your major or not. By senior year people have a relative idea on what interests them, and can find a college major to go with it. Knowing your major you can eliminate the colleges that don’t have your major. For example Iowa Central has a Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management program, but Iowa State only has Event Management. They don’t have the culinary program that goes with it. So Iowa State is not an option along with all the other colleges that don’t have the Culinary Arts. Iowa State University is more known for their agriculture and engineering programs, whereas the University of Iowa is more known for their medical programs. …show more content…

Do you want a campus that’s spread out or do you want the buildings relatively close to each other? Some people like the long, uphill walk to class and others like the two minute walk to class. The University of Iowa’s campus has a river in the middle of it and a gigantic hill. They literally have a bus stop at the bottom and the top of the hill for those who don’t want to walk. Visit the campus of those colleges that interest you and walk around the campus. Get a general idea of the location of the class. Depending on the major of choice there’s a possibility that all of the classes are in one building depending on the school.
