The Purchase of Mass, spree or serial killer paraphernalia should not be a crime, however, a person that has interest in paraphernalia should be looked down upon for having enthusiasms for such market. I don’t believe it should be a crime unless the seller stole the material and is selling the item on the black market. We live in a capitalistic country and the freedom we get in this country is what makes this country so great. Some people with mental problems may get the motivation to go kill because of the purchase of mass, spree or serial killer paraphernalia, but those are very few in number. We shouldn’t lose our right to a free economic system where we can buy and sell items unless they are not illegal or narcotics.
The purchase should just be the same as buying a gun. It is

There are definitely people who have mental problems and struggles with anxiety and depression that may get motivation from other serial killer but in that case, it’s usually the serial killer's story and background that inspires the new killer not the purchase of a serial killer paraphernalia.
Before a person has an interest in purchasing of mas spree or serial killer paraphernalia, he must have interest in the serial killer and his background. If that motivates him and inspires him to commit the same act. I don’t believe the purchase of mas spree or serial killer paraphernalia matter. He will commit the crime regardless. I believe movies and documentaries inspire serial killer more does that mean we band movies and documentaries on serial killers or spree killers.
If the paraphernalia is not a contraband or illegal item we should have full freedom to purchase what we want. We want to have an open capitalistic market. Controlling people free will to purchase an item is communist and socialist and I oppose it 100
People who have been diagnosed with this cluster are sexually inappropriate, prone to a grandiose view of their own uniqueness and abilities, emotionally unstable, self-centered, lacking and sense of guilt, shame or empathy and are often superficially charming, manipulative and exploitative. Most serial killers exhibit a well known triad of behaviors in childhood: a fascination with fire, cruelty to animals and prolonged bed-wetting. Many become almost uncontrollably interested in pornography as teenagers and anti-social when they reach adulthood. Most were physically and/or sexually abused. However, they appear normal in surface appearance and behavior. Typically with this illness, comes overpowering waves of compulsion to kill that wax and wane over time but normally get worse with age. Serial killers are described by law enforcement as organized or unorganized. Organized killers often appear normal in their appearance and socially. They typically plan their killing, have a mode of transportation and bring some sort of murder “kit”, containing the tools they will need. Most serial killers don’t use guns. The victims usually fit into a certain profile (e.g. gender, race, hair color etc.) and they will hunt down their victims. The organized killer is more likely to have a crime scene picked out, take or discard the weapon, and move or transport the body to a hiding place. In contrast to the organized killer the
Serial killers represent a social problem in many ways. Many innocent lives are taken away by these serial killers. We as a society should care if serial killers or spree killers operate within our culture because we never know that we or a family member could be next on the list. People’s lives are taken away by these criminals; people who have a whole life ahead
In our readings, we Define Visionary serial killers as someone who commits incomprehensible active serial fatal victimization. We described the crime scene as chaotic.
Even though a criminal intends to use the firearm in an illegal way, they can still obtain it though legal means, some not knowing they will commit a crime with the weapon in the future. Criminals and people who are not in the right frame of mind are the reason that gun control is such a major issue, especially for law-abiding citizens who live with a set of more restricted rights due to this issue.
Serial murder crime though rare, is not a a new phenomenon. This crime has been committed for centuries and will continue to be a crime that is committed throughout the world. It is unfortunate and scary that this is probably one of the most serious of crimes that cannot be prevented. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, serial murderers commit their crimes because they want to. Rehabilitation is not obtainable for serial killers due to their inability for remorse and empathy, or to see people as people and not objects(Knight 2006). This research paper will focus primarily on serial murder within the U.S. First and foremost, a legal definition provided by the U.S. Department of Justice will be presented to set forth the discussion of this research paper. As follows will be a detailed discussion explaining serial killer typologies with the use of examples of known serial killers in the U.S. Types of serial killers are: power oriented, mission oriented, visionary, and hedonistic, each typology will be clearly defined and explained. Some serial killers can have a mixture of each typology’s characteristic. Serial killers that will be discussed and used as examples to represent the content of this research paper will be, John Wayne Gacy, Ted Bundy, Robert Berdella, Jeffery Dahmer, and lastly the most prolific serial killer in American history, Gary Ridgeway. Problems with studying serial killing, are that because of rarity and access. Most of what we think
These guns are sold on what is called the black market to basically anyone. Anyone of any age, with no waiting period, no matter what your criminal record is, can purchase these guns. The fact that these guns are sold illegally allows guns to fall into the wrong hands. Gang members and murderers purchase these guns and go onto the streets and kill members of our own families. These problems are trying to be prevented by catching them and putting them in jail. By this point it is too late, someone?s child or mother has been killed. If the guns were taken out of their hands the crime would never be committed.
In order to understand how serial killers are affected by social changes, one must understand their psyche. A serial killer is "sexually motivated but the underlying reason is power" (Newton 197). The killer wants power over his victims. Serial killing, itself, is a "distinctly modern phenomenon, a product of relatively recent social and cultural conditions to which criminologists can provide fresh insight by accentuating the broad institutional frameworks, motivations, and opportunity structures within which serial killing occurs" (Haggerty and Ellerbrok 6). According to John E. Douglas, co-author of Mindhunters, the reason that murders committed by serial killers, at first blush, seem to be senseless crimes is because serial killers are often "motivated by a strong emotional feeling" (Dokterman), such as hate, vengeance, or regret. FBI agents have identified domination,
Throughout history, serial killers and murderers have received a significant number of news articles dedicated to them and have attracted audiences all around the world; however, the question that nobody can seem to answer is, “Why?” What causes people to grow up with the desire to kill and what can we do to prevent others from becoming serial killers in the future? “All serial killers are murderers, but not all murderers are serial killers,” as stated on The Undergraduate Times. A serial murder is defined by Encyclopedia Britannica as “the unlawful homicide of at least two people, carried out in a series over a period of time,” while mass murder is the
Due to today’s advanced media technology, we as a society are more aware and instantly informed about mass murders and serial killers. There is a difference between a mass murderer and a serial killer, according to the U.S. Department of Justice, statistics Bureau. (“Mental Floss”, 2008). A “mass
When you see the shows such as Homicide Hunter or Killer Instincts many times my mom and I try to figure out who is the murder. Most of the time my prediction is right because of the details my mom misses, and putting together all the clues. From then on I realised I had a gift, even if it was I was just watching television show. That is what sparked my interest the criminal justice area. I have contemplated the career choices that would best fit my interest leaving me with Homicide Detective and Criminologist. While both careers deal with criminal justice they differ greatly in the type of work environment, pay, skills/education.
Serial Killer: (n) A serial killer is a person who murders three or more people, usually in service of abnormal psychological gratification; ex. Charles Albright. His childhood was quite unusual, being that he started out life as an orphan and was adopted by foster parents Delle and Fred Albright. It is said that his mother was extremely strict and overprotective, which caused him to have little to no friends. Charles was never a very social child. He did exceptionally well in school and was even able to skip two grades. He got his first gun at thirteen and proceeded to kill small animals with it as a taxidermist, or in other words, he kept the hollow corpses of the animals he hunted and stuffed them to be lifelike memorabilia. There is no
This would make any purchasing of the item illegal. This would be very difficult to enforce because if people really want something they will find a way to get it, even if that way is a little risky. It is just human nature. There are certain things that some people think are necessary for human survival. These objects can serve many different purposes like food so they can eat, shelter to survive, and guns to defend themselves. Guns are also ingrained in the American psyche. Most people like to use or own a gun because in the early days of the country and even the days before this country was formed if there was a man in the home, there was a gun in the home. This was because there was no standing army at the time and people wanted to defend themselves then and now. This has also led to something that most people think is weird and that is the American gamer’s love for First Person Shooter games. Overall if people have been exposed to something that they have seen as good and right for society they will fight to protect
Mental health is a big factor that I believe should be closer examined before allowing someone to purchase such a weapon. Some may argue and say that “‘The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun’”(Smith,3), and that's why we need to make sure that the guns are sold to good guys. Anyone who is interested in purchasing a gun should have to prove that they only have good intentions with a firearm, because “... you are equipping yourself with a tool to defend yourself in a potentially lethal situation, but you could also be introducing an element of lethality into a situation that might otherwise not be”(Willis,1) All those in their right mind should be able to have a gun and use it responsibly. Another example of gun law effectiveness is from Australia, because there were 13 mass shootings from 1979-1996, after the 13th shooting occurred the country passed strict laws banning many
Trophies and souvenirs are important to a serial killer's “method of operation”. The trophies can be a part of their signature, so can having sex with the corpse, mutilating the body, or leaving the body in a certain position. (“ Serial Killers” World of… n.pag) Ted Bundy's motive was to rape, which led to murder for prevention from getting caught. ( “Bundy (Serial Murderer) Case” World of… n.pag.)
“The serial killer ‘is an entirely different criminal,’ ”The term serial killer is misleading on the ground that each murder is intended to be the last.” We see them as a figure of “the dark side of human potential,” but they believe they’re “on a heroic quest for the biggest score possible” They believe they are “the archetypal figure of impurity, the representative of a world which needs cleansing.” However, society knows that serial killers are not heroes, and they’re not cleansing the world. “The figure of the serial killer is violent impurity personified, and it is a construction that necessitates figures of violent purity to confront it.” While it can be argued whether having mental disorders should prevent a serial killer from being capitally punished, it is proven that many serial killers suffer from “paranoid schizophrenia, manic-depressive psychosis, or psychopathology.” It’s even said that “this crime is actually a form of disease. Its carriers are serial killers who suffer from a variety of crippling and eventually fatal symptoms, and its immediate victims are the people struck down seemingly at random by the disease carriers.” Serial killers usually have a stressor in their life that makes them start killing, and when they do “homicidal mania becomes ‘a necessity… linked to the very existence of a psychiatry which had made itself autonomous but needed thereafter to secure a basis for its intervention by gaining recognition as a component of public
