The nightmare continues for the parents of a toddler who was grabbed by an alligator at the Seven Seas Lagoon. The 911 call came in just after 9:15 pm, according to Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings. A nearby lifeguard was alerted, but could not rescue the child in time. The father struggled to free his son from the grips of the gator but was successful, sustaining minor scratches to his hands in the effort said Demings. The boy’s mother also went into the water, trying to find her child, he said.
Authorities have not been able to determine how large the alligator was but it’s thought it may be between four and seven feet in length. Meanwhile, more than 50 law enforcement officers, including two marine units, are actively searching the lagoon.

Andrew Ng, author of, “Florida’s Python Hunt”, quoted this from the article, “This means that for 30 days, hundreds of people armed with shotguns, rifles, machetes, handguns, and hooked spears- many who have never seen a Burmese python- will roam the Florida Everglades in search of the coveted snakes.” There is going to be people that have never ever seen a Burmese python before, so they could accidentally shoot people that may look a little bit like a snake, and they could shoot small animals and other snakes that have nothing to do with the Burmese pythons.
Alligators are large, lizard like, scaly creatures that closely resemble crocodiles. These beasts are native to only the United States and China, where it is now nearly extinct. Male Gators can grow up to 4 and a half meters long, the females up to 3 and half. However, Chinese alligators are much smaller, growing to be about half the size of a female American one. Gators vary in color, from yellow to green to nearly black in old age. An alligators tail is extremely muscular, used mostly in the water to propel the gator forward like a rocket.
In the early 20th century the Burmese python was released into the Everglades and since then they have been an invasive species. Therefore, of the Burmese has been proven dangerous, by scientists, to the Everglades’s ecosystem, local animals, and even the people. The Burmese python can grow up to 23 feet in length and can weigh near 200 pounds, being a massive snake can also make the Burmese a predator to many animals in the everglades.
The presenters of the burmese pythons is negative it is impacting Florida's everglades. According to the news article that the senate of the committee brought a 16 foot long snake skin to a meeting. Its response to these is Florida's fishing and wildlife and sent out a prize to whoever finds the fattiest and the longest. The longest python found was 23 feet long and the fatties one was 200 pounds.
According to the Smithsonian Zoological Park one of the features that makes American Alligators unique is “The large fourth tooth in the lower jaw of an alligator which fits into a socket in the upper jaw and is not visible when the mouth is closed.” As the teeth of the American Alligator wear down they get replaced which can lead to replacing their teeth over 2,000 times in their lives. The American Alligator has nostrils that stick up further than the rest of the snout, this is so they can breathe while the rest of their body is under water. The eyes of the American Alligator consist of upper and lower eyelids that protect them. They have a third eyelid, which protects its eyes when they swim underwater. Alligator eyes have also developed to see in the dark by reflecting light back into its own eyes.
With an impressive 23 feet in length, and weighing 200 pounds, the Burmese python is taking up the Everglades space. It’s no wonder animals around here go missing. What exactly is the reason they’re in the Everglades? Why are they everywhere? Well they have no natural predators, there’s way too many of them, and they are dramatically changing the number of animals.
In an attempt to test the idea of maternal care in the American alligator, Kushlan observed mothers and their offspring. Juveniles at the nest were captured and then lightly squeezed to elicit a call of distress, and the mother’s reactions were observed. In each of the three trials, the mother came to the juveniles rescue with a threatening ferocity. Kushlan’s study on maternal care provided solid evidence of post-hatchling parental care in Alligator
One misty morning in 2003, deep under the cover of the largest subtropical wilderness in the United States, a group of tourists set out for a day of exploration in the Everglades. They hoped to see some of the diverse and unique species that the Everglades are famous for, and maybe snap a few cool pictures to show their friends. They could never have anticipated what they would actually discover. A short way into their trek, the party was drawn to a noisy struggle nearby. They followed their ears to a duel between an alligator and a huge Burmese Python. The alligator clamped his jaws around the snake. The snake wrapped its body around the alligator. The tourists
In January 2013 in an effort to curb the python problem Florida began it’s very first ever python hunt. Thousands of hopeful hunters have signed up for a month long challenge where prizes for the longest snake and others are up for grabs. People from around the country have slithered their way to Florida in hopes of bagging a Burmese python or two. As of January 25th
Although, the Everglades is a very special and cool place. But there are way too many pythons there and we need a way to get them out, because it’s hurting the entire place. Pythons are causing huge numbers of opossums, raccoons, and many more animals. The python has no natural predators meaning they are wiping out many important animals. According to source 2, “With no natural predators, these eating machines appear to be wiping out huge numbers of opossums, raccoons, and bobcats, as well as many bird species.” Florida’s natural climate is very hot and humid which makes it harder to get those snakes out of here. According to source 1, “Burmese pythons are carnivores and survived primarily on small birds and mammals.” Another thing that horrible is that the population keeps growing and growing and it’s dangerous for us and animals also the everglades. Sadly, the everglades is changing rapidly and it’s not good. Now that you know about what’s happening to Florida and the everglades. Are you sacred yet?
As it thrashes its body from side to side, it creates a small hole filled with water. Plant matter and mud piled up around the edges of the hole create dry ground on which other plants eventually grow. After many years, grass, trees, and other plants surround these "gator holes" like fences. Gator holes are important to other species as well. As the water becomes scarce during the dry season, many animals search for food and remaining pockets of water. The gator holes attract crayfish, frogs, turtles, fish, and other aquatic species, all seeking refuge in the deeper waters of the gator holes. Muskrats, otters, deer, and raccoons, as well as a wide variety of beautiful birds, such as ibises, egrets, and herons, visit these sanctuaries to feed on the small animals that can be found there. Because alligators and the watery hollows they make play such an important role in the Everglades ecosystem, they are considered to be a keystone species since many other species depend upon them for their survival. This has earned them the nickname "keepers of the glades."

In fact there are an estimated 7,800 lakes in Florida that are at least an acre in size, according to Bridget Cohen of the Orlando Parks Examiner. Two-thirds of those lakes are located within the four counties that surround Orlando. With so many lakes, whether man-made or natural, there are abundant species of wildlife that count on these lakes in and around Orlando. Writing in the United States Geological Survey publication, "Hydrology of Central Florida Lakes," Donna M. Schiffer
Florida can be a strange and scary place sometimes, and anyone who lives there understands the truth of that statement. Bizarre stories show up on the local news every day that leave the public questioning, “What could have possibly been the cause of that?” I can recall one of these abnormal and somewhat surreal situations that happened not too long ago. It was later in the evening, and I was driving down a quiet street in order to get to friend’s birthday party. Out of the corner of eye, I saw only what I could make out to be a younger man in his early twenties riding down the sidewalk on a skateboard while wearing a purple Teletubby costume and smoking a cigarette. Because I have been a resident of Florida my whole life, these strange situations
