The person who I choose to interview for this paper is my grandmother Sharon Bryant (née Kimple), and the main reason I chose to interview her was that I really did not know much about her life story and wanted to learn more. Currently she is 72 years old, and lives in Vancouver, Washington with her husband of 52 years Allan Bryant. She has been retired for the past two years and enjoys spending her free time quilting and sewing, and does not have any major medical issues aside from a few allergies. Sharon was born March 27th 1943 in Glendale, California. For the first couple years of her early childhood her mother was working while her father was a photographer and a Seabee (construction worker) until the end of World War 2. She first met her father when she was four years old. Her father struggled with PTSD when he got back and Sharon described him as intelligent and nice, but could become very mean and angry, and that she was “to be seen but not heard.” Sharon is the older of two sisters and spent a lot of time helping raise them as both her parents owned businesses with her mother owning a catering company and her father a paint strainer manufacturing business. One of the first major events she remembers from her childhood was a major car accident when she was in-between Kindergarten and the first grade. According to her she would “treat her employees like they were her children.” A stern but kind approach to management, something she picked up from raising 4 kids. She also had strong bonds with her parents, even her father who ended up moving in with her and her family for the last 8 years of his life, putting Sharon into a “sandwich generation” (Whitborne & Whitborne, 2014) where she is still helping out her kids and now helping our her parents.
