Sheriff Joe Arpaio is the Sheriff of Maricopa County, Arizona from 1993 until January 2017. He has been a notorious and very outspoken sheriff in Arizona, most people ether love him or hate him. His practices have been critiqued from all sides, and he has been accused of wrongdoing multiple times. In 1993 he set up a tent city as an extension of the county jail for prisoners in a yard next to a more permanent jail structure. The tent city can hold more than two thousand inmates at one time, and the population consists of mostly pre-trial inmates. Arpaio supposedly started the outdoor jail to help deal with overcrowding issues. In July of 2011, when the outdoor temperature in Phoenix was 118°, the temperature inside the tents was 145°. Inmates
Chicago has had its share of police corruption and scandals throughout the city’s history. Officials always vowing that corruption will never happen. One of the corruption cases that caught my attention was about Joseph Miedzianowski. According to NewOne, Joseph Miedzianowski is ranked number 4 as the most corrupt cop in the U.S. of all time. Joseph Miedzianowski was a Chicago police officer for 22 years. He served as a police officer and a drug kingpin shaking down drug dealers. He also ran Chicago’s gang unit and his own gang dealing drugs (NewsOne. 2011).

Sheriff Jamye Noel went on to explain that all of the inmates knew the cameras were there, but on 60 DaysIn, you will notice that sometimes they forget that they are there and just about doing what they always would do. Of course, the inmates also had no idea that regular citizens were in there with them for 60 days. He also shared a huge spoiler that some people may not make it the entire 60 days and that something happens where some do leave. Now viewers can't wait to see how this goes

Police in America began as the night watch system that protected cities from crime, fire, and disorder. Of course early policing was influenced by the British, and so was American Law which derived from English common law. This would also form a correlation to American policing policies that diverged from the English’s Magna Carta and as well the French. The French established a centralized government that entailed men to take an oath of loyalty. The police in America started as night watch groups, then employment changed to police officers being political appointed which was very corrupted, but throughout the years things changed again to serve the public. Instead of a political selected police force that earns it’s pay through bribes and
There is a significant health issue facing the public as well as law enforcement every day, suicide. The numbers surrounding suicide are shocking effects people of all backgrounds. In the year 2010 more than 38,000 adults committed suicide. Then in 2011 around 1 million adults admitted to attempting suicide, while 8 million had serious suicidal thoughts. Law Enforcement officers are at an even higher risk then most due to experiencing such a large number of risk factors. These factors include but are not limited to poor physical health, access to fire arms, domestic abuse, substance abuse, exposure to violence and suicide; depression, anxiety and other mental diseases. These factors lead to an above average number of officer suicides every
Joe Arpaio was elected sheriff of Maricopa County, Arizona from 1993 to 2016. He had different programs that captured the public and media around the world. He had the tent city jail, the posse, the chain gang, and the pink underwear program and many more. Arpaio's chain gangs contribute thousands of dollars of free labor to the community. The pink underwear program came about when he noticed inmates were stealing the jailhouse white boxers, which was costing him over 40,000 dollars a year. He then decided to dye all inmates’ underwear pink for a better inventory control. The same with the handcuffs, they started disappearing so they he ordered pink handcuff replacements. He learned that the color pink was calming. Joe decided to order everything
I chose to interview Officer Michael Alway of the Rocklin Police Department. I selected him because of the rapport I had with him from him being a former instructor at the community college I went to. This rapport made it more comfortable to ask more complicated questions. I originally made contact with him through my csus.edu email account. In a few days, he was able to get back to me and we set an appointment date via email. I initially send him the interview questions, so he would know what I was going to ask and have an answer or idea on how to answer it. The first impression was good, and I noticed that he was wearing a body camera. Since, my paper was on the use of force that is where the topic began with the questions.
Sandstone Federal Correctional Institution in Sandstone, Minnesota has housed many an inmate including the actor Tim Allen (Rodriguez) and it ranks 40 of 50 on arrestrecords.com’s 50 most comfortable prions in the world. Deputy Timothy Scott is an officer of the Coweta County police force in Newnan, Georgia. Newnan is about 40 miles southwest of Atlanta. As of November 2014, there were 97 police officers serving the city of Newnan. The Newnan Police Department official policy on police use of force is not accessible on their website. A representative explained via phone call that citizens must submit a request via postal mail for access to copy of the explicit department policies.
First off the does seem that the sheriff was in the wrong in the demotion of the deputy from both a legal and a subsequent policy violation. It appears that the sheriff may have violated the deputies first amendment rights, although a preexisting department policy forbidding holding or running for office by the deputy may protect the sheriff from liability in this instance. What would have been a better scenario is that the sheriffs department had and independent inquiry on this matter to see if the deputy violated any law or internal policy, however the sheriff being an elected official simply looks as though he is firing the deputy out of retribution thus possibly weakening his his public image. Not only does it seem that the sheriff may have violated the deputies first amendment rights but may have also violated his freedom of religion, not only this but the United States is a secularist democracy with very touted ideals of the separation of both the church and state from one another.
Against the expansion of the county jail, Canyon County Sheriff Kieran Donahue stated, "overcrowding of the jail is a law enforcement problem. I disagree. It is a society problem and it affects us all. We must be progressive and innovative in our approach to this problem" (Donahue). We don 't need our county jail to be expanded, the jail system is something that our society abuses because people will do anything to get into trouble.
Arizona former sheriff, Joe Arpaio, attained a reputation for his inhuman treatment of undocumented immigrants and prisoners. Arpaio job was to protect the people of his community from crime. The very law he was sworn to uphold he flagrant disregard it .Arpaio and his department would roundup Hispanic looking people and detained them; because, they thought they was illegal immigrant. His obsess with cracking down on illegal immigrant cause him and his staff to overlooked many sexually abuse cases including children. In this paper I would be identifying, compare, and contrast the policing function at the local, state, and federal organizational levels. I would be Analyzing how the organizational, management, administration, and operational functions at these three organizational levels are similar or different and why. Also I would be identifying the leadership characteristics and responsibilities pertaining to each organizational level.
When discussing leadership within the law enforcement profession is it vital to take the human factors into consideration. There are multiple human factors that the law enforcement leaders must take note of, such as, family issues, financial issues, stress, health, and morale. These human factors that play an important role for law enforcement in general can impact morale, officer safety and the public perception. When addressing the human factors, “Law enforcement leaders should challenge themselves and their employees to increase safety margins by focusing on human factors. By doing so, they will improve proactive communication at their level of influence and develop an organizational culture that values safety and wellness” (Bone, D., Normore,
