Awesome! I went to visit many places that I have been wanting to see, such as the Sherlock Holmes Museum. Everything was great except for the Security examination. I was stopped two times while my luggage passing through the X-ray machine. One is check-in luggage, the other one is carry-on luggage. There have some rules about things you shouldn't have. I have read it carefully, but still brought the forbidden thins. It's a flashlight with Li-ion battery and a ruler with iron on it. That was really scared me when I was stopped. How about yours? Did you have anything
Founded in 1965, Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History showcases the world's largest permanent exhibit on African American culture. My visits there are always educational and profoundly moving. The museum has an incredible perspective on the past and the present journey of African Americans. At the same time, it takes us on a comprehensive journey of the African American contribution to the world. Today, I will take us on that journey and paint a vivid image of Charles H. Wright Museum.
The Robert Russa Moton Museum, is located in Farmville, Prince Edward County, Virginia. In 1939 it was known as Robert Russa Moton High School. It was a single-story brick building that contained six classrooms and a small auditorium. The building was holding about five-hundred students yet it was built to only hold one-hundred and eighty students. This was a school for African Americans students only. The large well equipped whites only Farmville High School served as a reminder to the students of Moton High School that it was separate but definitely not equal. There were many major differences between the two high schools. In Monton High School they were forced to learn in shack like buildings that lacked a proficient heating source. The
The artwork is one of the main ways to express the culture of a region or a country. Therefore, art has played a very important role throughout history. When talking about art, the first thing that comes to most people’s minds is probably that art is a painting or it is a sculpture. However, art has many forms of expression, and it closely connects to human’s daily life. Besides paintings and sculptures, art is everywhere around us. I am always interested in how people have linked art with daily life throughout history. For this reason, the two pieces of artwork I chose from my visit to the Museum of Fine Arts are both objects that can be used in everyday life: one is the mixing bowl and the other is an incense burner. Though they are from different cultures, have different making processes, and have a different purpose in usage, they both are good examples to show how artists tried to apply art using different techniques to human’s daily life.
The sounds loud, deafening even, as shots rang out. The fighting raged on, over to the left, an explosion went off, knocking a young man off his feet, pain stung his arms, legs, his body, as he fell to the ground, first to his knees then to his hands. His face hit the dirt. The sounds were loud, deafening even, as more shots rang out, and then the sounds were just in the background, a distant memory, the young man faded, but as he did, he did for his country. Before I walked into The Coles Museum, after I left, and during my time there, I had, and still am thinking and pondering greatly on what freedom is, and what it means to me. Freedom is a power, freedom is a privilege, and we have it because of our veterans and those who fight.
Over the spring break, my parents decided to take me to visit colleges. Of the two colleges we visited, one of them is located near Washington D.C. We were supposed to visit Georgetown University, but we had one day to relax, so my family decided to visit the National Gallery of Art. My dad originally suggested the Smithsonian Museum, but my said that on Yelp, the National Gallery of Art was ranked 1st in museums in Washington, which is much better than Smithsonian, which was ranked 12th. So, we left our hotel and arrived at the museum just as soon as it opened.
A tremendous serial killer, H.H. Holmes is also known as the “Murder Castle”. Holmes is a mysterious, ruthless and a mischievous fellow for sure. He had a privileged life as a kid and as a young adult. He had his interests in medicine, but as the years passed by he turned dark and had become a serial killer. It’s believed he had killed twenty up to two hundred people. His victims were killed in his hotel a.k.a the “Murder Castle” which was a three story hotel. His victims were mostly women. He usually did experiments on his victims before he killed them. Holmes admitted to killing twenty-seven people to the police. H.H. Holmes turned into a serial killer by nature.
Brownsville is one of the areas with the richest history in the Rio Grande Valley. Museums, parks, and many buildings are preserved as a symbol of very important historical events that took place in our beautiful city. Thus, for this reason I decided to visit the Brownsville Historic Museum. When I entered the place, I was greeted by a very nice lady that gave me a tour through the museum. The first exhibit was full of pictures and photographs of Jim Wells, Porfirio Diaz, Simon Celaya, and Charles Stillman among other well-known individuals. This area included a beautiful wooden bed, mirrors, and old objects with descriptions. Honestly, I was deeply moved while walking through this place because it felt as if I was living during that era of time. Through the exhibits I also found pictures of the Mexican Revolution. Recently, in class we covered a chapter that included this
The Bowers Museum is a historical place where multicultural diversities are exhibited through the arts. The museum was founded in 1936 in our lovely city of Santa Ana. This museum is here today because of Charles and Ada Bowers who submitted the bequest to the city of Santa Ana. This museum is one of the largest museums in California and the go to place for Orange County Residents. It was closed down for a period of time and reopened in 1992 as a cultural center. Now they have expanded and added a Kidseum made just for kids. As you walk through the hallways your mind is taken to other parts of the world, as if through magic, we get to see through other cultures eyes. This was my first time stepping foot in a museum so I did not know what to
Aside from the Brooklyn Museum, the only museum I had been to in the last four years would be the Met Breuer. As I was instructed to visit the Diane Arbus exhibit at the Met Breuer, I imagined the same type of scenery any museum would look like; high ceiling, large frames, and a collection of detailed and colorful work. It occurred to my surprise when instead I saw an identical collection of same sized frames, of just people, in what seemed to be black and white. As I took a deeper glance, I noticed almost none of the people photographed were smiling. It appeared that they were candid photos, yet they all looked directly at the camera. Arbus’ photos were drawn to unusual public places and scenery in black and white with some surreal contrast portraits. I noticed the raw images of peculiar people often brought focus on those who may be the outliers of their society; transgender, dwarfs, nudists, circus clowns, and even children. There were various particular themes that struck a chord with me, however, among the many images I came across during my search, I found Arbus’ portraits on transgender people provoke the most emotion and intrigue. The wide variety of each portrait as well as the ways she chose to portray them told a story of both lives and culture within her lifetime. Being particularly interested on transgender people, I was captivated with the complexities of her work and the way that she transcended so many boundaries which constantly had me question the theme she
I chose to write about the art piece by Thomas Moran after going to the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston. While walking through the buildings I saw a mass of artwork that ranged from gold artifacts to paintings. I have to say that it was a lot to take in but I chose the painting by Thomas Moran called the Stranded Ship on East Hampton Beach. I liked the painting with the raging water crashing on the beach with the stranded ship in the distance. I really like the contrast of the dark waves with the white spray on the beach and white caps on the waves. It seems to tell how dangerous the waves can be but there is a lot of flow. The waves seem to be choppy but big and dangerous but I can feel the sense of movement and the wind blowing. It
The Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles educates people about how people were treated during the Holocaust and what prisoners did in the camps, resulting in the deaths of many. One of the many life-changing exhibits that may open they eyes of many was the Anne Frank exhibit. It features the life of an extraordinary young Jewish writer who lived in a Nazi-occupied country in her early teenage years . Anne is one of the most well-known victims of the Holocaust because of the diary that she kept, while she and her family were in hiding. My favorite quote by Anne Frank is, "In spite of everything, I still believe people are good at heart," because it shows that even through the darkest of times, one can still forgive and have hope for a brighter
The museums I chose were the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, National Museum of Art of Romania, and National Art Museum of China. The Albright-Knox Art Gallery is located in Buffalo, New York and focuses on contemporary and modern art. In addition to having a large gallery of art, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery also has over fourteen programs designed to education the public in the culture of art and each program may be different but incorporates all age groups. The National Museum of Art of Romania is located in Calea Victoriei, Romania (former royal palace revolution square and displays Romanian, European, and Oriental art, but focuses heavily on Romanian medieval and modern art. Furthermore, it also provides their website in multiple languages
The J. Paul Getty Museum is located on the West side of Los Angeles and is opened all week with free admission except on Mondays which is closed completely. The Getty is divided into two campuses, the Getty Center and Getty Villa. Although both campuses serve as a major role for the Getty Museum, the Center is what is commonly referred to as the museum. The museum sits at the top of a hill that takes 15-20 minutes to hike. However, a tram is available to haul visitors from the parking lot up to the building which is roughly ¾ of a mile. However, the hill does not stop guest from coming. Nearly 1.8 million visitors come and view the Getty Museum annually.
Royal Ontario Museum is known to be one of the best attractions in Toronto. Out of all the guests, according to the ROM’s exit survey, 71% of guests were families. Furthermore, younger visitors, including millennials, were more general visitors whom came to with no specific purpose. A study from the National Endowment for the Arts found that in 2008 23-24% of the millenials went to a museum once in a year. In 2012, only 18-22% of the millenials did so (GBriff, 2015). The museums are consistently experiencing drop in younger visitors. The ROM, knowing the potential of attracting younger generations, seeks to appeal to the millennials by conducting best and current practice research. The objective of this research is to identify several of the
This was actually my first visit to this museum since I have gone to Kennesaw. My expectations were pretty high initially upon going, because I have heard so many things about it from my peers. Just by their opinions, and my love for art I have myself, I was actually excited about going in to take a look. I must say, I was not disappointed by any of the art work I saw in there. I really enjoyed the exhibit of work from some students from a high school around this area. It really shows that the college really supports the youth of the future and their passion for art as a whole.
