Keen Johnson was born in a two-room cabin at Brandon's Chapel in Lyon County, Kentucky, on January 12, 1896.[2] He was the only son of Reverend Robert and Mattie (Holloway) Johnson.[3] His parents named him in honor of John S. William H. Johnson was a successful painter who was born on March 18, 1901 in Florence, South Carolina. Johnson began exploring his level of creativity as a child, and it only amplified from there because he discovered that he wanted to be an artist. After making this discovery he attended the National Academy of Design in New York which is where he met his mentor Charles Webster Hawthorne who had a strong influential impact on Johnson. Once Johnson graduated he moved to Paris where he was exposed to different artists, various artistic abilities, and evolutionary creations. Throughout Johnson’s time in Paris he grew as an artist, and adapted a “folk” style where he used lively colors and flat figures. Johnson used the “folk” style to express the experience of most African-Americans during the years of the 1930s and 1940s.

When he was in high school his buddies gave him a nickname “The Professor”. Lonnie was the only African American that represented his high school in 1968 science fair sponsored by the junior engineering technical society (JETS). Andrew Johnson was born December 29, 1808 in a North Carolina cabin. Andrew's father died when he was a young boy, and his mother quickly remarried. His mother and her new husband forced fourteen-year-old Andrew and his older brother William to a local tailoring job. After working a number of years in the tailoring business, the boys ran away for several years, dodging rewards for their capture placed by their mother and stepfather. Sister Adelia. After workings an apprentice to his brother-in-law James Miller, Johnson bought the barbershop in 1830 for three hundred dollars and explain trade to free black boys. It was shortly after he established a barber shop in downtown Natchez that he started to keep a diary. The diary was a mainstay in Johnson’s life until he died in 1851.

After reading “The Great Society” by Johnson, I felt it gave an outline on why higher education is important and why many people cannot accomplish their goals. I also felt, he gave an insight on why going to college has a great aspect on us, and makes a change. For example when he says “The purpose of protecting the life of our nation and preserving the liberty of our citizens is to pursue the happiness. I strongly agree with what he said because, we our basically fighting for our freedom so that we can be happy in the end. “It will be task of your generation to make the American city a place where the future generations will come not only to live, but to live the good life. His point in this part meant that, he wants
