The moment Audra rose, Fay and Una were at her side, chattering about how they would be happy to escort her to the garderobe—though Audra had not mentioned anything about going—and whisked her out of the room, down the hallway, and through the double doors into the cramped room. As Faye promised, Audra’s travel clothing lay folded neatly on the corner table, and before she had time to say a word, Faye and Una stripped Audra out of her dress and had were lacing her into shift, skirts, bodice, and fur-lined, fitted tunic. “Ladies, I can dress myself…” They ignored her and continued the lacing and fussing, but Audra insisted upon securing her own boots. While Audra tightened the laces, Faye wrapped a heavy winter cloak around Audra and clucked …show more content…
“You’re doing me a tremendous favor, Jon. No apologies needed. But will drive right back home? I’m concerned about you.” “No, my lady. The owners of the home have a few small cottages down the lane where they house servants and workers. There’s room for me.” It touched Audra that so many people were going to great lengths to make her wedding and honeymoon a memorable and private one, while not sacrificing safety. Half a heartbeat later, Vaughan and Maxen jogged out of the castle. Clearly, Faye had not dressed Maxen for the ride, because he looked decidedly less… draped. He wore his lined winter cape, but with the hood lowered. As he drew closer, he broke into a run, grinning like a boy who’d won the kingdom’s greatest prize, his eyes alight with adoration. Despite Audra’s flaws and many weaknesses, he loved her, and she could not imagine anything in life more precious than that. She had struggled, suffered, and done wrong, but with Maxen by her side from this point forth, Audra felt as if no pain could touch her. “Maxen, at least tie up your hood—” Audra started, but he lifted her off her feet and spun her around before she could finish. She screeched playfully, but he silenced her with a bruising …show more content…
Let’s see how long it takes before the guests realize the bride and groom have absconded.” Maxen set Audra back down on the ground and she spun toward her friends. “That you for everything!” she called out, and smiled over their shoulders at her, but kept walking. “Sweet gods, let’s get out of here.” Maxen grabbed her hand and pulled her toward the carriage. XXXX Not long into their carriage ride, Audra was warm, full, and sleepy. Maxen had brought along a skin of hot cider, along with a bag full of roasted chestnuts, and a warm bread filled with cheese, spices, and spinach. Since they’d hardly had a chance to take a bite of food during their post-wedding celebration, the fare was most satisfying. Although Audra wanted to remain alert and enjoy the ride to the seaside home, drowsiness claimed her and she nodded off with her head resting against Maxen’s shoulder. She was vaguely aware of him pulling up their blanket up to her chin, but then fell into a deep slumber with peace in her heart and the welcome sense she was loved and protected. However, a dip in the road jolted the carriage, and Audra woke with a start, unsure how long they’d been traveling. “It’s all right.” Maxen stroked her hair. “We’re just over halfway
It was a bit awkward trying to slip the dress back on with her skin so wet, and as soon as it was on fully, she began to soak through the under-most layer. But she kept a sweet smile on her face and ignored how the breeze made goosebumps rise across her skin. She would be happy to get to her new home, enjoy the warmth of the hearth and the taste of a hearty meal. She lost herself in her day dreams for a few moments, "Oh." She seemed alarmed as Walt's words brought her back from her own mind. "Oh, oh, I see." Goldie bobbed her head, acknowledging his words. "I'll apologize still. I did say I would help him make dinner!"
Allie immediately thought of the old seamstress, she and her mother had gone to, to get her last gowns made, but she was in Savannah. “Do you know of a seamstress that won’t be swamped with orders- it is so close to time, I’m sure no one will be available this late,” said Allie, beginning to feel some of Eli’s excitement.
Following a light lunch of Chinese hot and sour soup and more electrolyte infused water, I lie down to take a nap. I listen as Doris recounts to Malcolm what took place on our adventure – it’s a mixed bag of the good, the bad and the miraculous.
She cupped Abra’s shoulders and then shook. “Look. I don’t really care that he needs you. Your safety is of the utmost importance right now. You’re here now, and you’re safe. I’m not letting you
Gawain reached out and put his hand on his friend's shoulder. “Calm down. You haven't made a total mess of things just yet. Why don't you come back after the tavern closes and offer to walk her home?”
Jazz let out a yawn. The sun was dipping underneath the horizon, painting everything in hues of pink and orange, and she yearned for a comfortable bed and a good night’s rest. A night of rest in her old house,
Micah shook his head no, barely holding onto her. “I’m an Argos,” he reinforced. “I have enough strength for the both of us.” She smiles at his declaration, but the smile does not reach her eyes. “Fiona…I’m never letting you go.” His boots are floating completely off
“Sorry,” I apologize and try to think of a way to get him out of this.
It was hard to keep a pleasing appearance when she had so little room to work with. Adeline seethed in solitude, skillfully tying the front of a revealing dress as she paced the distance from the bed to dresser. Her neckline plunged into a deep v, forming around the protruding curves of her breasts. At her waist a golden rose pin held together the sashes of her skirt, which she wrapped around herself artfully so that two slits arose, showing a breath of smooth skin. The dress was certainly more disclosing than anything she would have worn at home, and definitely more lavish than anything she could have afforded before her bargain with the demons. She ran her hands down the soft blue fabric, wistful for what she had left
Janden’s face relaxed a little. “It’s time to be on your way. Better you don’t come back.”
Rory rode beside Maxen the whole way. Her son was so ebullient and expressive when talking to Maxen, animated in a way she had never seen before. It might have been the post-battle rush and a deep sense of relief that encouraged Rory to chatter so, or the fact he and Maxen had bonded on the field. Even so, it made Audra’s chest ache to consider neither man knew how closely he was linked to the other.
Audra kept her fingers laced with his, prepared to make her case, when cheers, clapping, and foot-stomping ensued. Most of the women were tearful—Audra hoped with joy—and the knights appeared jubilant, especially the older ones who had known Maxen from years ago.
“Many gave their lives to get me this far. I will always be thankful for that.” Eliana replied, and she looked down the hall to see a boy, possibly her age. Maybe he was older. Adelaide smiled at him, and he smiled back. As she walked, she dismissed him as just another visitor coming to the coronation. “They would've been happy to see all this kingdom has become.” Eliana added in a whisper, “At least, I hope they would've.”
A couple years later. Nate and Jake are in their apartment eating dinner and thinking.
A noise that could only be a chuckle escaped from the dragon, and Hiccup swatted his side playfully. "Alright, let 's just get off these stairs."
