Jacqueline Naour 9th Hour “Abortion does not make you un-pregnant, it makes you the mother of a dead baby”-Jacqueline Naour. Before researching this report I did not really think about how they kill the child or how the abortion actually occurs, so I did not really think much of it or know it was such a bad thing. As I have written this report I realized that it is honestly one of the worst things I’ve ever read about and should be illegal without question. Abortion should be illegal because it makes human life disposable, fewer babies are available for adoption, fetuses can feel pain during the abortion, it endangers the mother getting the abortion, and the child has no say, meaning it kills innocent people. In 1973, when Roe vs. Wade happened, the government passed the law that abortion should be legal in the United States. After the law was passed, the abortion rates went up a lot, but slowly started lowering over the past few decades (10 Reasons Abortion Should be Illegal). The number of providers of abortion has gone down since the 1970s, but has remained the same since the early 2000s. In 2011, the government had to make more laws regarding abortion so there were several more restrictions. More laws were made between 2011 and 2013 regarding abortions than in all previous years. A few years ago some states banned getting abortions after you reach 20 weeks of pregnancy, or midterm. These are the main statistics and laws that have happened since 1973. The first
Thousands of women in the world have abortions. “ Since the 1970’s, abortion has been a very controversial issue throughout the United States. Anti-Abortion and pro choice organizations often express their differences of opinion in lawful demonstrations” (Andryszewski 10).Think of it this way, all of the fetuses are in life or death situations. Their mother is choosing whether or not she wants to keep them or abort them. The children that are getting aborted will never get the chance to live. The children that are aborted will never get a choice. They will never get to go through all of the good, and even the bad, times of life. Life is a blessing, and everyone should get the chance to live their life. Women who just don’t want a child, or even women who have been raped, are wanting abortions all throughout America. Whatever the reason for the abortion, the pregnant woman should not have the choice of taking a life that they created. There are reasons and other options why women should not get abortions. Abortions should be illegal because these women are murdering a child that is unborn, it could be harmful to women, and if not always, then almost always, women have the choice of adoption.
Abortion has been a topic of debate for centuries if not longer. Abortion occurs when a fetus is removed from a woman 's body before the fetus is able to fully develop. Before the 1800s, not many laws existed concerning abortion. It was not until 1973 that the Supreme Court listened to a case concerning abortion. In 1973, the Supreme Court struck down all state laws that had ruled abortion illegal in Roe versus Wade. However, many still argue that abortion should be illegal. Abortion should be legal and an option available to expecting mothers due to issues such as rape, life or death situations in mothers, and teen pregnancy.
Abortion is a deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed the first 20 weeks of pregnancy. There are series of legal, moral and ethical issues which may arise about abortion. Most arguments about abortion are often focused on political insinuations and the legal aspect of such actions. Some frequently asked questions’ regarding the issue is if the practice should be outlawed and regarded as murder or should women have the right to practice it. For example, prior to becoming pregnant, some women feel that they would be able to choose the abortion option without trouble. However, even with reasons why having an abortion would be the best option, some women feel that this decision would not be right for them. On the other hand, some women have a strong belief that abortion is unethical prior to becoming pregnant.
Abortion is controversial in the United States; it seems impossible to have any accord or compromise on this topic because the views regarding it are so widely divergent. These views are based on whether people decide that priority should be given to treating women as rational beings and allowing them the autonomy to get an abortion or to enabling the development of a fetus. I believe that priority should be given to providing women with complete autonomy, but there are those who disagree, and act paternalistically toward women to ensure that a fetus fully develops.
While studying the debate on whether or not abortion should be illegal, you are approached by many different writers with interesting arguments, filled with their opinions and reasons for why abortion should or should not be allowed. Two essays that have caught my attention while reading about the debate of abortion are: “A Defense of Abortion” by Judith Jarvis Thomson, and “An Almost Absolute Value in History”, by John T. Noonan Jr. Thomson argues that abortion is permissible in cases where the mother’s life is at stake, where the sex was consensual but had faulty contraceptives, and lastly, in cases where the mother was raped. Noonan’s approach to abortion is that almost all cases of abortion are wrong, except if the pregnancy causes
In conclusion, abortion needs to be illegal in the United States. In this century, there are so many other options for women who do not have the desire or skills to raise a child. There are thousands of families throughout the country who would love to adopt a newborn baby. The fact that abortion is murder, it creates multiple health problems for the mother, and defies the foundation that our country was built on is argument enough that abortion should be severely restricted if not
Many women may get pregnant at a time of their life where they may not be able to take care of a child. An option for these women is to give their child up for adoption or to have an abortion. Everyone has a different opinion on abortions whether or not it’s the right or wrong thing to do.” Every single day silent deaths are happening amongst Americans. Every single year, this silent horror kills about as many Americans as have been killed on all the battlefields in all of the wars in U.S. history combined (Snyder, 2012)”.
While abortion is legal in the United States, the law is diverse among many Americans who assert a great level of opinion regarding the topic. Issues regarding the legalization and procedures that govern the law makes it controversial in nature. Since the Supreme Court’s decision in making abortion legal, there has been a great divide between those who support the advancement of the law, while there is a deep moral reserve for opponents who ethically challenge these regulations. Since the inception of the law, advancements in science, technology and healthcare have been made to support the safety of women’s health. However, advocates still argue that the procedures are dangerous physically and emotionally. Lately, political propaganda on
In the world today, a clear answer whether abortion is allowed has not been given. Texas, however, has reduced the ability to have an abortion, as well as many other states in the United States. Abortion is currently acceptable, in Texas, until pregnancy has reached 20 weeks; this is when the fetus begins to gain feeling, starts to gain physical characteristics, as well as can be identified as a boy or girl. This is well into the pregnancy and only a few states have the 20-week law in place. Abortion is a huge debate that needs to be settled, and I strongly believe every state needs to contain the 20-week law. I support the policy of ending abortion in all fifty states, past twenty weeks, because
Abortion is a very debatable topic all around the world. In the United States, people are nowhere near any settlement on the matter and have not come to an agreement for the foreseeable future. The topic of abortion brings up a debatable issue regarding prenatal testing. An ultrasound is a standard procedure where the fetus can be checked upon and evaluated. With this procedure, abnormalities of the fetus can be detected, so further testing can be done to determine the health of the fetus. Nevertheless, what if anomalies are detected and the fetus either has a chance of not surviving or will be born with severe disabilities? It is unethical to most individuals, but the decision to end a pregnancy should always be accessible to the woman even if their decision is simply because their child would be born with disabilities.
The decision to end the life of someone without their own consent has caused great disruption among Americans. Before the civil rights movement, Americans idealized the idea that abortion was ultimately prohibited due to the fact that religion predominated the beliefs of the people. Now in a rapid changing-liberal society, people are questioning if prohibiting a woman from aborting is denying her inalienable right of freedom as listed under the First Amendment. The right to abortion should be left in the hands of a woman’s personal decision rather than being obligated to live with the results of something she never wanted.
There should be a law that would prohibit pregnant woman from smoking tabaco products, due to the harm that the drugs have on the unborn children. Currently we do have some states with statues that touch on the subject of pregnant and smoking, but while the issue is getting bigger, we should be able to enforce more strict rules that would set a punishment on those harming the unborn children. There have been many studies made about the harm of tabaco products on human body proving that smoking slowly kills. In the response to the studies, we should be able to enforce strict rules that would help to eliminate the issue of smoking while pregnant because it leads to serious health related problems to those that have no chance of protecting themselves. Such issue might be hard to eliminate, but giving the legislation a start it would be a good beginning in the enforcement of that law. Some states already have started the debate which would determine if women should be held criminally liable for abusing drugs and other stimulates. The main argument for this law to be an important legislation to pass, is the fact that we see an increase in the children being born with drug addictions across the nation. To protect the mothers from loosing the newly born children, and to protect those who are born with health related problems we should create a law that would prohibit pregnant woman from smoking tabaco and using drugs and held the offenders criminally liable.
Abortion, I believe has always been and will continue to be a very controversial subject. Abortion has been argued continuously over the past years and will always be a topic that is going to get people on their high horse. Abortion is defined as the termination of a human pregnancy, typically done before the embryo or fetus is capable of life. Basically a medical procedure done to end the unwanted pregnancy and the cause of death of the fetus. The most asked question is should abortion be legal? When it comes to the topic of abortion, there are two sides to this topic, Pro-life and the Pro-Choice side. Those who are against abortion entirely are considered to be pro-life, and those who believe it is the woman’s right to choose between keeping the baby or terminating the pregnancy are pro-choice. The solution to individuals who are for pro-life is to have the child and give it up for adoption, or raise it. On the contrary the solution to individuals who are pro-choice is only that of abortion. The solution of abortion is considered ethically wrong and should be illegal because there are consequences for both the mother and the child resulting from an abortion. About 10% of women who are having an abortion suffer instant complications, potentially life-threatening. The rates of women’s death from various causes after abortion are 3.5 times higher than after giving birth, and that’s scary to think that you could have so many complications to cause you to die. People think that
Should abortion be legal? There is an increasingly amount of people that believe that abortion is not erroneous and that this path is morally acceptable. Some advocates have a particular opinion that reproductive choice empowers women by giving them control over their own bodies. They consider that the choice over when and whether to have children is essential to a woman’s independence and capacity to determine her future. They believe that the entitlement to be in charge of your own reproduction is a basic right, and is protected both under our Constitution and basic human rights ideals. They believe that the fundamental rights includes the right to prevent pregnancy, the right to get pregnant, the right to carry a pregnancy to term, and the right to terminate a pregnancy (“Should abortion be illegal?,” 2015, para. 11).
The subject of abortion is a controversial one that has been debated for years. Some people believe that it is immoral and unsafe, yet others believe abortions give women choice. As a young adult woman who has never given birth, I understand both sides of the argument, yet I argue that the risks of abortions outweigh the benefit of them.
