There are some people who realizes the amount of energy athletes put in playing the game argues that they should get paid. However, there are also some people who sees the value of the Scholarships College athletes are getting and they argues that they should not be paid. The case about paying college athletes should no longer be a question. College athletes should not be paid because they don’t only get scholarships, they also get free medical care, housing, meals, books and traveling.

Would paying college athletes make them spoiled or would it give something more than just a degree after graduating? College athletes do so much for their university, yet they never get anything in return for it. They put their heart and soul into the sport, they have done for their entire life and worked very hard to get where they are now. Not getting paid until they go through school is unfair and most athletes leave school early without a degree and no knowledge of how to manage their money when they get it. Although college athletes do get money from scholarships, they should be able to get paid because their sport is their job and when they leave college, they would have something more than just a degree.

Imagine being full-time student working a full-time job helping the company assembles millions of dollars, but not getting paid for the job. As a college athlete playing sports is a full-time job. The average D1 football player spends 43.3 hours per week on football (Michelle). Some NCAA tournaments require students to miss somewhat six classroom days. This paper is going to explain some reasons why college student athletes should be paid.

There has been a lot of talk about college-athletes for the past couple of years in America. One of the biggest question is if college-athletes should get paid to play or not? This topic obviously has two sides to it. One side people are pushing the idea of paying these college-athletes thousands of dollars to play that sport. On the other side people are not liking the idea of paying student-athletes to play that sport and they’re only in college. This paper will examine whether or not paying student-athletes is a good idea or a bad idea. First being that college students are too young and immature. Next point will show some profession players that really fall under these categories. The last point will show some of the reasons why people think they should get paid. If a student plays a college sport, this is their time to develop their skills and only professionals should get paid.

When you are in college playing sports you are considered a student athlete, as for if you were a professional you would be a professional athlete. Student athletes in college should not be paid to play because it was like when you played sports in high school it is your choice to play, but if you were a professional you should get paid because you're older and you are at a more complex level and you should be paid because the teams you play for want you and pay for you to come and play for their team. Being a professional is not like being a college athlete because you are an adult and it is your career to play that particular sport. The professionals should be paid because they spend all of their free time working out and practicing when they could be at home laying down, watching movies, eating snacks, and etc. College athletes have their own free time and don’t have to worry about practicing day after day.

Although most college sports require an intense commitment, college athletes should never receive the title of “employee.” However, many people disagree with this statement, causing a debate about whether or not college athletes should be classified as employees. The issue climaxed when football players from Northwestern College wanted to form a labor union. They believed that college athletes should be treated better in various ways, whether they are considered employees or not (Patterson). While changes are warranted in regards to the organization of college athletics, they are not currently deemed employees.
