Should George Have Killed Lennie Justified

Death, the one thing every person will eventually face, could be seen as an end or an entrance. What is your extent of a friendship? How far are you willing to go to help the person you care for? For many reasons, the majority of people think murder is immoral—especially if it was your own best friend. But sometimes we may have to go to the extreme, as long as we know it was the right thing to do from the heart because that’s how much you know you care. In the story Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, I strongly believe that George was right to kill Lennie.

In Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck George kills his best friend Lennie. George’s reasoning for this is that Lennie is killing too many people and has become a burden. Lennie does not realize that he is doing wrong by accidentally killing animals and people. George says that he is doing this for other’s benefit when really he is doing this for his own good. The Great Depression affected millions of people in America, two of those people affected were George and Lennie. George and Lennie are migrant workers that struck a job in California. George can be described as the brains of the partnership, while Lennie is more of the muscle. In the story Lennie has a fascination with feeling soft objects. This later gets them in trouble in the town of Weed. Once they get to the job, they go months will no big problems. Until, Lennie accidentally killed The owner’s son’s wife. After this happened Lennie ran off, and all the workers went to go find him and kill him. George does find Lennie before any of the other workers, and even with the chance to escape, he shoots Lennie. In John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men, the murder of Lennie was not Justified.

Did George do the right thing by shooting Lennie? That’s a good question, and to me I think he did. If it wasn’t going to be George who shot Lennie, then it would’ve probably been Curley. The way Curley wanted to deal with Lennie was by making it as long and as painful as it could’ve been for Lennie. Towards the end, the author mentions Lennie having a happy laughter before he was shot and that to me is a humane way to be killed with all the other options being considered.

This is right, because Lennie killed Curley’s, he also killed animals, and George needed to get rid of Lennie.

Therefore, George’s decision to euthanize Lennie is justified because George had a feeling that Lennie would never get better, George wanted to shoot Lennie himself, and George was stopping Lennie from doing

The book does a good job saying that killing a person out of mercy is accepted and George did what he had to do to survive. Lennie could have had it all a farm friends and his dream of tending the rabbits. John Steinbeck made the book of mice and men with a lot of moral lessens and ideas. When George and Lennie stepped on the farm they pretty much instantly had friends and their dreams were possible but fearless did the right thing when he killed Lennie.
