Should parents let their kids play football?
Do you want your kid to be happy and make friends? If you answered yes, then you along with many other people think that parents should definitely let their kids play football. Most parents don’t let their kid play football because of the risk of a head injury. Although head injuries can transpire in other sports too.
Conversely many people don't let their child or children play football because they anticipate that they will get injured. But this isn’t accurate, football helmets are the most protective they have ever been. According to a study from the Journal of Neurosurgery, no helmet can counteract a concussion. Nevertheless, certain helmets can minimize the likelihood of a concussion by over
I think that kids shouldn't play football because it is too dangerous. People get concussions every day when they play football. After repeatedly bashing their skulls football players get concussions, caused by the spongy tissue in the brain hitting the hard skull. It is very painful to get a concussion, and leaves permanent damage to the brain. As well as being excruciatingly painful, and possibly never being the same, with many issues. "In milder cases, athletes can be left with lifelong pain, memory lapses, aggression, depression, personality changes, and many other issues."(Shotz[11]). This sport just keeps getting more and more dangerous, manifesting on itself, becoming more and more brutal as players become more competitive. There are
Having your son participate in a sport like football keeps him busy and out of trouble. Allowing your son to play football will keep him busy while having fun instead of being at home
Have you or your child ever played football at a young age and got injured? Should kids be allowed to play football at a young age? Kids who play at young age usually get hurt. The reason for that is because they're not taught well from the couches on how to tackle.
Concussions occur on a large scale in football. During a concussion, the head can experience a blow directly or can have whiplash. When the head is hit, the brain hits the inside of the skull, giving it a temporary bruise. This bruise or tearing of the brain can lead to mental impairments that can affect a person’s emotional state of being, physical problems like deteriorated mobility and sensitivity to light and sound. Doctors are quick to point out one of the major reasons that youth receive concussions, saying, “... children have big heads relative to the rest of their bodies and weak necks… that elevates the risk of concussions,” (P6). Along with a lack of education and care for the protection of athletes, youth are already at a huge risk. When children wear their football helmets, they are saving themselves from many injuries that could have occurred without them, most especially protecting the brain. But, in many cases, this is not enough.
Football head injuries are a big concern in the NFL and youth football, due to the contact in football there's damage that is done to the brain that can cause health issues to individuals players as they get older, it leads to long term mental problems caused by concussions which is when your brain crashes into your your skull. There isn't a technology that can prevent a head injury one hundred percent. Football head injuries are more commonly found in high school than in college and NFL. The effects to the brain of a football player with a head injury are long term in the end.
Football is a sport loved by so many people, that a whole corporation was made for fans to enjoy it, the NFL. But do the fans know the risk that football players put themselves in when they step onto that field? It doesn't matter if you have experience there is always that risk for a concussion. Even kids playing youth football or teens playing high school football are at a high risk for concussions. Obviously, whatever guidelines out there that are meant to protect football players from concussions aren't working so something needs to be changed. Personally, if I was a parent I would never let my child play football unless the helmet, tackle guidelines, and penalties for late hits were improved. However I do understand why parents allow their children to play football, it is a sport like I said, loved by many and just fun to watch.
Something as simple as a specially designed helmet can prevent a concussion from occurring. “ While helmets have been used since the early 1900s in the NFL, they were not mandatory until 1943. Since then, the materials, designs, and safety standards have undergone revision, and more recent modifications have focused on improving the design to further protect the athlete specifically from concussive impacts”(Navarro, 2011). The helmets used in the past to protect athletes were not designed purely in mind of protecting athletes from concussions; helmets and equipment are now being revised and redesigned in the focus of protecting athletes from concussions whenever any sort of contact happens to the athletes cranium. “Biomechanical studies have shown that newer football helmets may reduce the impact forces associated with a sport-related concussion” (Navarro, par 2). Along with the creation of new equipment new rules should be adopted which require athletes to wear proper and up to date equipment, such as helmets and mouthguards which protect the athletes head during any circumstance of possible injury; whether during a practice or
Is it safe for a high school student to play football? Concussions have become a major concern when it comes to football. 33% of concussions occur at practice and one in five high school athletes will unfortunately sustain a sports concussion during the season. Does this mean that parents shouldn't allow their son to play football in high school? Although many parents decide not to let their child play football due to injury concern, the Improvement in equipment, better coaching, and penalties all help to make the game of football safe.
Sports is a major part of mostly everyone’s life either you watch it or just participate in it. Though it has it benefits, everyone has the reason why they participate or enjoy watching sports. With the benefits comes with some consequence. When a football player puts on a helmet, he knows what he gets himself into. Although they have a helmet on, they are not guarantee not to get a concussion, according to Press Release “there was a new study that found out that football helmets currently used on the field does little to no protection against hits to side if the head” (AAN).
Although football is a rough sport there are many solutions to prevent further head injuries.Players have bigger pads, stronger helmets, and more padding. The shoulder pads absorb contact and protect shoulders and rib cage. The neck pad helps keep head stable and protects neck area. The helmet prevents concussions
The brain is like an apple in a jar of water because when you shake the bottle it gives a clear representation of your brain as the apple, it shakes when you make contact at a huge speed. All things considered with football helmets and the technology of them being improved, they still cannot prevent or reduce concussions. The helmet technology isn’t great enough yet to prevent or reduce concussions because of the rate of impact. Finally, I believe that football is a great sport, but researchers and scientists should put more effort into finding a safer way players could play without having consistent concussions. After that happens, the game of football would become more advanced than
Another thing that would protect the football players from having so many concussion issue is fixing the layout on how a helmet is made or either improve the type of materials are made with to lessen the amount of pressure the brain receives after a hit. Researchers are in shock because they are not receiving enough accreditation about how they makes helmets they believe that football would be even worser if they didn't have the improved way of technology has improved the current equipment. Even though concussions and helmets don't seem to protect the players at all its improvements has to come as the years grow older. “Swartz, a former rugby player, is a kinesiology professor at the University of New Hampshire. It's there he implemented a two-year study to test the effectiveness of what he calls the Helmetless Tackling Training Technique.” stated by Tadd Haislop this quote means maybe if players are taught to tackle without their helmets. It would transfer over into the games and tacklers won't lead on with there head into a ball carrier or other players on the field.
Football can be a very dangerous sport. And although those who play the game believe that they are being protected by the helmets that they wear, the truth is that this may not be the case. In a recent study released by the American Academy of Neurology it has been found that “protection against concussion and complications of brain injury is especially important for young players, including elementary and middle school, high school and college athletes, whose still-developing brains are more susceptible to the lasting effects of trauma”(Science Daily, 2014). The study also found that standard football helmets worn by the majority of players on the field today, only reduce the risk of traumatic brain injury by 20 percent compared to not wearing a helmet at all (Science Daily, 2014).
The first reason why I would let my child play football is because it promotes health. Football is a physically demanding sport where you need strength, agility, endurance, and hand-eye coordination. In an article by Steve Silverman titles “What Are the Health Benefits of Being a
You are worried about your child going to get injured in his first game of football. Little did you know, there's nothing you should be really worried about. In fact, sports to young children or teens might seem dangerous. But on the other hand, it is just a fun sport for young children and teens to play. Sports also makes kids and teens active in a fun way and sports makes kid entertain themselves. Although sports seems dangerous, teens and young children should be allowed to play sports because sports makes them healthy, higher scores in school, and makes kids less depressed (sad).
