Smoking is one of the practices which is considered highly dangerous to our health because it impacts the smoker and the people around them. There are approximately one billion smokers. Smoking is a big issue that the nonsmoker faces. For example, when the smokers smoke in public places like restaurants, universities and other public places it hurts the non-smoker. The non-smoker breathing the cigarette, marijuana or hookah smoke from the smoker do both of them are breathing toxic chemicals. In a cigarette there are more than 5,000 chemicals and that is the easiest way to cause health problems. Smoking should be banned in public places because it effect the non-smokers health such as respiratory system, harm lung cancers, and the last thing is heart disease.
The addicted and heavy smokers have therefore developed a mentality of carrying their cigars with them so that they can easily access them whenever their thirst for smoking surfaces. Smoking in public refers to the practice whereby a smoker responds to their substance thirst by smoking in places where there are different kinds of people including those who do not smoke. Such places include the open public like roads, streets, market and social places like restaurants, hotels and public services vehicles (Pollock, 2013). This kind of behavior has however attracted mixed opinions from those who do not smoke, health experts and the smokers.
The people who are protected by the campaigns to ban smoking in public places
Smoking is the inhalation and exhalation of the smoke of burning tobacco. Historically, it was thought that smoking was harmless, but more modern, clinical and laboratory research proves that it is, in fact, extremely dangerous. Tobacco cigarettes should be illegal in the United States due to their plethora of negative effects on the population and the environment. If cigarettes were banned, the country would be a much better place. Pollution, diseases and fatalities would dramatically decrease, while productivity, financial stability and overall health would increase.
Have you ever gone to a restaurant or to the bowling alley and come home smelling like cigarette smoke? And while you were there, some people are sitting there smoking by you and you can’t stand the smell of it. So you go out side and to get some fresh air and what do you know there’s some more people lighting it up and smoking but they are polite enough to go outside. Doesn’t this annoy you, that you can barely go anywhere without people smoking in your presence. This leads us to the question, Should smoking in public areas be allowed? Smoking in public areas is something that could definitely be dealt without. The things I will cover with you are the effects of smoking, the effects of
and The question is why the freedom to smoke in a designated area in public places a problem. If you are outside are in close area people are still exposed to the fumes of second hand smoke. Can the option of smoking be left up to the public rather or not an individual should smoke in public. Where does the line end in the rights of a person the right to inhale clean air, the right to excise your right to smoke in public? Non-Smokers have the right to smoke free clean air environment, and smokers have a personal right to smoke in designated smoking areas. In this research paper I will talk about the controversy issue of second-hand smoke in public places and the privilege to smoke in public.
The purpose of this policy is to define public outdoor areas where smoking is banned to create outdoor smoke free conditions .
In “Trout” by David Marlatt and “Sonnet 130” by William Shakespeare, both describe their loves in unusual, more complex ways then what is usually written in poetry. “Trout” describes a day where the speaker swims next to his love, and explains to her that she is as beautiful as a trout. Throughout the poem, however, there seems to be a tone of admiration, and the audience cannot hellp but feel that the speaker is giving his love one of the highest praises he can possibley think of. In “Sonnet 130”, the speaker juxtaposes his love to certain elements found in poetry, such as red and white roses, goddesses, and music, and says that in comparison to these she is but average and plain.
Humans have been using tobacco in one way or the other since ancient times. Use of doesn’t always imply smoking it, but it can be chewed or used in different forms such as Tobacco chewing, dipping tobacco, etc.
Scientists agree that smoking is dangerous. Tobacco smoke can cause cancer, strokes and heart disease. Smoking does not just harm the smoker – it also harms people nearby, who breathe in the smoke (this is called “passive smoking”). Smokers choose to smoke, but people nearby do not choose to smoke passively. People should only be exposed to harm if they understand the risks and choose to accept them. A complete ban on smoking in public is needed to protect people from passive smoking.
Smoking should be prohibited in public places because it causes pollution, is disrespectful to others, and is dangerous to others due to secondhand smoke. Smoking in a public place should be prohibited. Public smoking is a large epidemic in the United States that needs to be stopped. Smoking is not just dangerous to the person who smokes, but to those who are around them as well. The children, the adults, everyone can be affected by it.
The numbers of people who smoke have increased over the years. Although they are equipped with the knowledge of how unhealthy smoking can be, people still choose to smoke. It is a personal choice and a highly addictive habit. Smokers choose to subject themselves to the health risks of smoking. It is not for the government or any third party to dictate whether or not a person should be allowed to smoke. However, smoking does not only affect the smoker negatively. It also affects all the people around those who smoke because when people smoke in public the smoke travels everywhere through the air, and the negative effects of the smoke affects all living, breathing creatures. Therefore smoking should be banned in all public places.
One of the big reasons that smoking should be banned in public is because of how bad it is for people's health. Now obviously the best way to stop smoking from harming people's health would be to ban smoking entirely. However, that is not possible to do that so this is the next best solution. The health of a smoker would be so much better off if thee smoker would only smoke at home. This is because the smoker would not be able to smoke as many cigarettes on a daily basis, and the less a smoker smokes the better off the health of that smoker will be. The reason a persons health will be better off the less they smoke is because smoking is very dangerous for someones health. Smoking is particularly known as being dangerous to one's lungs. Pavitra Sampath states in her article 10 Reasons Smoking Is Bad For You that “cigarettes have a large number of chemicals which leave a considerable amounts of residue in your lungs, airways and your entire body in general. All this residue ends up clogging your lungs, leading to breathing problems and lowered lung function.” The lungs aren’t the only organs in your body that will get damaged from smoking. Smoking also negatively affects your most important
The smoking population in London stands around 1.2 million and with such a significant percentage of this city with the habit, it is unsurprising the ban has caused such wide controversy. Without hesitation, I add my voice to the chorus of non-smokers who think this ban goes too far. However, I am not saying that smoking is in any way good as I am extremely aware of the gruesome health risks and unattractive photos of black lungs and lopsided livers that litter the media. I just ask of you Britain; can’t you be content with how far we have come? We have banned Tobacco advertising and sponsorship, banned smoking in public places like bars and pubs and banned tobacco vending machines. Isn’t that enough?
Smoking Tobacco is a choice, it is a freedom given to all willing adults, but it is important to never abuse those freedoms. Smoking tobacco has had a long history throughout the world, so getting rid of smoking completely would be near, if not impossible. However, we should try to least reduce the use of it due to its many harmful effects on health to avoid needless deaths and pollution. Problems other than its effects on health is that it disturbs peace within public settings, it is inconsiderate towards those who don't like smoking or hate the smell of it, and it also affects your outward appearance; both creating a barrier in communication with other people. And not only that, but smoking in public settings can be a big risk and a danger to people who are just passing by that happen to have asthma or are allergic to cigarette smoke. Smoking Tobacco is dangerous, in the way that it will ruin your health and your social life, the environment, and it can be quite bothersome to those around you, which is why, at the very least, smoking Tobacco in public areas should be banned.
Smoking is known to be one of the most dangerous medicine and can come with some seriously negative to one’s lungs. Research studies have shown that second- hand smoking can be equally as bad. According to the 1964 Surgeon General’s Report, “2.5 million adults who were nonsmokers died because they breathed secondhand smoke” (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). To those who own restaurants, oversee public places, and others in charge of entertainment venues, pay special attention to the content in this paper. Smoking should be banned inside public restaurants and businesses as well as outside public parks and other places. It is important that people understand the damaging negative effects of smoking in public. My opponents might argue that smoking is only inhaled by the smoker himself, rather than others around him or her. However, as said before, second hand smoking is just as dangerous to the smoker and the people around. People need to understand that smoking can trigger others’ asthma and cause them to have an attack. Some argue that if businesses had signs outside their building saying that the venue is a smoking environment, than this would dismiss the asthma problem. However, even if businesses did display signs outside the buildings, this may drive customers away, resulting in failure of the businesses. Second hand smoking is dangerous, banning smoking in public places will reduce litter from
“The true face of smoking is disease, death, and horror - not the glamour and sophistication the pushers in the tobacco industry try to portray” - David Byrne. Smoking is a bad habit that people have been doing for many years. Smoking has absolutely no health benefits. Smoking shouldn’t be banned, but the age that people can legally smoke, which is 18, needs to be raised to 21.
Imagine lying in a hospital bed dying of lung cancer caused by cigarettes yet have not smoked a single cigarette. The effects of cigarettes do not only hurt those who smoke, but hurt those around the person that smokes. “In 2005, it was estimated that exposure to secondhand smoke kills more than 3,000 adult nonsmokers from lung cancer, approximately 46,000 from coronary heart disease, and an estimated 430 newborns from sudden infant death syndrome.” (HHS 2006). Smoking in public should not be allowed to be done whenever the person smoking wishes.
