Should Students Have Year Round School

A school’s normal calendar on the western United States is usually from early August to late May, and a school’s calendar on the eastern side of the United States is from early September to late June. But what if all schools started to switch to a all year-round calendar? A longer school calendar is not a good idea, because staff and students deserve a long summer vacation, there would be a problem with scheduling adjustments, and it would affect energy consumption for schools.

Does year round school truly have a positive impact in the lives of students? Various studies do suggest that year round school is helpful. There are some disadvantages to this type of schooling that are preventing all schools from switching to this type of scheduling. In earlier times schools were only teaching throughout half of the year so that school would be out of session when it was time to work in the fields. Why is a year-round school a bad idea? Having a summer vacation gives students motivation throughout the school year. It is a bad idea to make our winter break longer than summer break because some students work over the summer, students are not getting the best education they could, and they will not have much time to spend with their family.

According to the National Association for Year-Round Education, students will be able to advance more rapidly if they did year-round schooling. A by-product of summer break is the dividing of classes based on age. If schooling was year-round, there would be less distinction between one year and the next. This only teaches us to work with people from our generation. If we had year-round schooling we could advance quicker and work with people from different generations, just like how it would be in the future with jobs. The topic of year around school has been brought up many times throughout my time in school. Though it has been brought up, it has not actually been considered by my fellow students and I. We have all taken surveys regarding it and most of the people I know have been against it. With our school being in a small town in Iowa I do not think having year round schooling would benefit us or the community.

When I return to school after summer, I always struggle to remember anything from the months before. For this reason, I personally think kids should go to a year round school. Moreover, kids shouldn’t have such a long summer vacation. Students should go to a year-round school for more intersessions throughout the year, so they have less stress, it will be easier to remembering what they learned, and year-rounds schooling has smaller intersession you can use if you are falling behind, you can catch up.

The cons of year round schooling are oddly the same things as the pros all except for academic success. It just depends on how you look at the issue. Some of the other cons would be things like; summer jobs, too much change, parents and students may not like it, and also an impact on extracurricular activities. Having a year round schedule means that there is no time for stable employment. By the time someone in high school finds a job, gets trained in their new position, they will have to stop working to return to school, or they could try and juggle while their grades may drop. It takes the whole summer job idea that high school students are so accustomed to having. On the same side of this con are the teachers. Teachers usually get jobs in the summer to make a few extra bucks to help compensate for the pay they earn during the year. So by going to year round

They will have nothing to do with their child that is supposed to be at school. And they can't afford to put their child in a daycare. Also, teens and college kids won't get the chance to work during the summer and get money for rent and other things like a house and a car. And teens want to be able to take summer jobs.”This supports the fact that teens won't get the chance to earn money for things in the future. Many high schools Teachers won't get as long to plan lessons because they only have two to four weeks of planning in between school years. Although, year round school lets the kids go on smaller two to four week vacations and still have time to get their homework done. In
