Teens should be allowed to read whatever books they want . Being something that you aren't just makes things worse in people's life .Teens should be allowed to read the book Zig Zag because it teaches people to try things that they don't want to do , shows people who they actually are and , it teaches people to try their best without using violence . One reason why is because it teaches teens to try things that they don't want to . For example , “ Since chris is leaving , Robin agrees to join her aunt and cousins on a cross country road trip , in spite of her reservations . she and her younger cousins have never really gotten along , and since their father's death they've become even more problematic than before . ΅ “ soon the four of them are zig zagging through the West on an eye - opening journey . They explore parts of the country Robin never dreamed existed - and she discovers inner resources she never imagined she had ¨ ( wittlinger 90 ) . This shows that teens should be allowed to read this book because it is teaching them to do things that they don't want to do . Not all teens do things that they don't want to do but most teens have to do things that they don't want to do then they realize that was actually fun and it wasn't gonna be that much fun if they choose not to do it . Another reason why teens should be allowed to read this book is because it shows them who they actually are . For example, ΅ Robin can't believe it when her boyfriend , chris . tells
One of the books that has been debated for a while, ‘The Outsiders’ written by S.E. Hinton as to whether or not it is appropriate for teens or not.
Books are made for people to enjoy and learn from. Then why are people deciding that a book can’t be available to certain people based on certain parts of their content? This is happening all around the world and this is called book banning or censorship. Many books have been challenged and said to be too gruesome or too dark for readers and one very controversial section of censorship is the young adult section. People are saying that young adults should not be exposed to some topics and so they take the ‘dangerous’ books away. For example, a novel called Of Mice and Men, written by John Steinbeck, has been banned in libraries all across America. However, the novel Of Mice and Men should not be censored from teens because it gives information about history, it challenges readers to think in many different ways, and includes complex themes that can teach a lot to young adults.
Books are a gateway to a world of imagination, but some schools are trying to shut those gates off by banning them. Books are some of the best teachers left, it's not up to a school to decide what a child should or should not read. Banning books can deprive a child of the opportunity to think. Books should not be banned because of the lessons they can teach, the fact that a school should not even be able to ban them, and it can deprive a child of the opportunity to think.
Honestly they should be banned for children 10 or under so they don't have to find out that sort of stuff at that early of a age but it is mostly up their parents to decide what they read to and at their age group to decide how they have to handle for the parents all tho that would trigger an early puberty among their kids and children
The whole debate started when the Wall Street Journal ran an editorial written by Meghan Cox Gurdon where she described what she saw as a disturbing trend towards ‘darkness’ in young adult literature (Is Current). The article had a major backlash on Gurdon when people started to disagree and argue her statements, such as Maureen Johnson, author of 13 Little Blue Envelopes, who went to twitter to start the #YASaves (Young Adult) hashtag and getting thousands of replies within hours (Springen). Some people agreed with her statement, some of those people think that books should be banned from libraries so that their kids won’t read those books (Parents Challenge) Since the article, there have been many debates on the matter of books being appropriate for teen readers. I believe that young adult literature is not getting too dark for teen readers because the books help them face problems in their own lives, they make teens more aware of loss, and the stories show them that they are not alone in the issues they
Although it is ridiculous to ban books, it is somewhat understandable. Some books are extremely heavy on the controversial side, and include a boat load of inappropriate content. “My corduroys. My boxers. Two layers. I could feel the warmth of her cheek on my thigh. There are times when it is appropriate, even preferable, to get an erection when someone’s face is in close proximity to your penis” (Green). It is easy to see why someone with a closed mind would take offense to this kind of content being in a book for young
Firstly, teens should be allowed to read Crank because it shows how small choices can change someone's life . For example in the book, during Kristina's visit she meets a boy named Adam they
Reason one; books should not be banned on the grounds of “they’re a bad influence”. The world is a bad influence and the people that inhabit the world are worse. In the cases of some books, some children have already lived through what has been banned. In other cases, it is just the parents being too over-proctective. They have already lived through some of the events, and do not want their kids to experience the same thing, which can also slow down how the child learns. In addition, if the students are desperate to find ideas for things because they don’t get the help from their parents, it means the parents are ignoring their kids
Parents should have the right to decide what their child reads, but should not have the right to decide what is right for other children to read because not all parents have the same view on what is appropriate for their child to learn in school; as Jones stated, we must all respect each other’s differences. Educators should also be able to freely decide on what they feel is appropriate for their students to read. If a teacher chooses a book that has caused concerns in the past, they should alert the student’s parents of
When certain books are given to the right age groups, then some situations won’t be so cruel. Such as “In 2006, some parents in a Kansas school district decided that talking animals are blasphemous and unnatural; passages about the spider dying were also criticized as being ‘inappropriate subject matter for a children’s book’” wouldn’t be such a big deal if the children were old enough to understand that the talking animals were not real and the spider dying is simply a part of life. (15 Books Banned For The Most Absurd Reasons Ever.) Also, children should be given the opportunity to read books that are about or from the perspective of children the same age. Even though some books may have a negative effect towards the readers, most books that teenagers read are about the same difficulties that lots of teenagers go through. Therefore, children can learn ways to deal with the conflicts they have in their lives. (Banned Books Week 2015)
Lessons learned from reading fiction can be very useful to use while approaching your issues. Fiction fills our beliefs and desires and teaches us things we have didn’t know. Evidence I can pull to help support my claim is that real world problems are no joke. These issues shouldn't be taken lightly. Fiction can teach you life lessons that you may or may not known. The school board needs to think this through. If the school board makes this decision on taking away fiction from school, today's society, in my opinion, will get mad. Today's society can tear people down easily. They can adapt to many different things at once if they wanted to. They can make things worse for people or make things good for people. Not only is this book about fictional issues, it’s also about real world problems and how fiction can relate to us, the readers. “Researchers found that people who read Literary fiction, led to better results in every subject. That same year, they found that people who read fiction had a higher brain activity than others who didn't.” Fiction, in my opinion, should be taken down, because of this
No one should ever lose the right to read. Instead we must find a win win for everyone. If one student isn't mature enough to read a book we must find a alternative for that child. Banning a book will not block a child from the real
Kids learn crazy things going to school, especially public school. A lot of people think that banning certain books would help that. But,
Many people think that some books that are considered as "inappropriate" should be banned in public places, like schools. A lot of high schools have already banned certain books, such as" Of Mice and Men" because of many different reasons, but these books should not be banned in public places like schools. Books like Of Mice and Men should not be banned because students need to learn the background and history behind the books, students need to be prepared for books they will read in high school and college, and lastly because the more mature content will get them ready for their teen and early adult years.
as it is a young adult novel. To put it briefly, do you want to be the one to close a door on others’ learning just because one book isn’t right for
