Significant Life Event

2.1 Evaluate the effectiveness of organizational policies and procedures in supporting individuals and their social networks affected by significant life events

I realized I wanted bigger and better things for not only myself but for my husband as well. Being able to work as a nurse aide, I believe you have to have a strong heart in order to see the things that we see day in and day out. Working in a nursing home and seeing the dying patient has strengthened my inner ability to perform the job needed to get done. At first I was frightened and scared of having to take care of a patient who has passed and after several years of working as an aide I have gained the strength to set aside my fears to take care of the deceased patient.

My love for nursing began early in my life; in high school, my continuing desire to become a nurse resulted in my applying and being accepted to Midwestern State University. There, I received a BSN and became a registered nurse. My experience at Midwestern prepared me for a successful career by instilling confidence within me as I joined the workforce. As my experience grew and years went by, I became eager to further my education and pursue my master's degree. Then life happened: the two-legged version that requires love, compassion, energy, and time. Now that my child is in school, with the support of my family, I am ready and dedicated to become a family nurse practitioner.

There was a number of events that confirmed to me that child nursing was the only career I'd fully enjoy. From a young age I'd always had an interest in the medical industry and was drawn to care for others. When I was nine, my little brother took ill with menangitis and MRSA. At the start of this year my little sister was in a neo-natal intensive care unit in an induced coma and less than a month later my little brother followed with a burst appendix. Needless to say, I've had my fair share of hospitals. As I was there so often, I attempted to shadow some of the nurses that were taking care of my family. They were very friendly and would teach me things like needle techniques and the different types of drip function. When my sister was diagnosed with down's syndrome, I attempted to pay as much attention as I could to the learning disability expers that came to talk to my family. They successfully put us at ease, fully believing that these learning issues are not scary or difficult if known how to approach them. On top of this, I've really attempted to invest my time with children more; As the oldest of nine children this hasn't been that difficult. I've always been on call to help with trips to hospitals, babysitting and sometimes just changing a nappy. I've also given up time to help my two of my friends who are foster careers. I've helped babysit a number of children with different backgrounds. Some with severe learning problems and some with neonatal abstinence syndrome.

Growing up I knew I wanted a career where I can help people. I was undecided whether that would be in the form of caring for people or helping teach key stage 1. I thought I would enjoy becoming a nurse so started an access to higher education course in health care. Once attending university open days and finding out the unsociable hours and weeks away, I knew this is not the career path that I want to go for. As a mother, I want to be around and involved with my children.

It’s all start when my sister and I went to Watson. While I’m doing window shopping, my sister went to buy some stuff. Accidently, in a glance, I saw my sister at the health section. In consciously, I went to her with full of questions, and asked her ‘are you sick?’ Then she turned back to me and answered my question with a question, ‘is this good?’

There are many events that stand out in my life that were significant and helped me grow stronger. One of these events stands out in particular to me and had the greatest impact in my life. When I attended high school my focus was never on the academics but only on sports and having fun with my friends. I never payed attention for more than five seconds and failed to complete any type of work given to me. My lack of care for high school affected me on going to a four year college, playing a sport in college, and taking remedial classes.

Life seems to take many twists and turns that somehow mesh into each other to form a chaotic knot of happenings. All of these occurrences are supposed to shape you into a wiser more experienced person. Many people can even pin point the exact moment in their life which was forever changed by a single event. When that event happens it becomes an unforgettable memory for you and teaches you a lesson that becomes one of the basic guidelines in your life. The event that forever changed me and was most significant to me was when I decided what I planned on doing for the rest of my life; choosing my major. I knew exactly what I would plan on doing my

An accident last year changed my attitude towards life . That accident had a great impact on me , it taught me to treasure what i have and to treasure those people around me more . Although the accident was not life threatening , it was still the scariest thing i had ever been through in life . It was an accident that no one would have expected and wanted it to happen .

Life changing events can sometimes be difficult. In the stories “I Never Had it Made,” By Jackie Robinson Warriors Don’t Cry By Melba Patillo Beals and “The Father of Chinese Aviation.” By Rebecca Maskel. Melba Beals, Jackie Robinson, and Feng Ru all experienced life changing events that impacted their lives. If you did not know these people went through danger to break segregation. Melba Beals and Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier by playing on a white ball team and going to a white school as blacks.

A life-changing event is not something to be taken lightly. Throughout our lives, we encounter many obstacles and changes, some of which bring us joy and excitement, others of which may be hard for us to handle. When I look back on my relatively short life, it may, at first, be hard for me to think of an event that has truly molded and shaped the person that I am today. I have encountered several changes, but at the time, they felt like mere speed bumps along my path. Looking back now, it is easy for me to see that these changes were not by chance, but were placed in my path to form the person that I am today.

First, what brought me to the nursing profession. All through my childhood years I wanted to be just like my mom, a daycare provider. I wanted to be able to take care of young kids and not have to sit in a desk all day. I never thought of another profession until my grandma, a nurse, had me shadow her for an entire day. I learned all about the different specialties and jobs in a hospital. After that day I had an interest in the health field but I wasn't sure what health profession was fit for me. About a year ago I started working at the nursing home in my hometown for some experience in the health field and to be around health professionals. After working there for four months I tested out and became a CNA. I absolutely loved every part of working there. I helped all the residents with their daily needs such as dressing and toileting. In the nursing home I worked at, there were three different parts; assisted living, long term, and rehab and hospice. I was able to work in the long term care unit but most of the time I worked in the rehab

The significant event of my life is about suicide attempt of my neighbour. It is few years old story when I and he were class mates and used to go to school together. It was the result day of 9th grade when he came across the news of his failure. I am not much sure about the details of the event as it is an old event and the panic created at that moment did not enable me to note the details. He and I had gone to school together and came across few other class mates before reaching the notice board to see the result. My neighbour was a sensitive boy. The class mates gave us the news of his failure, he was extremely shocked and in the same condition, he jumped from the 3rd floor window of the school. He died at the spot. The news of his suicide attempt was a shock for all who had made a joke of his failure. He had scored shining marks while the class mates were enjoying his sensitivity.

My explanation somehow did not work well. I started struggling between my career and my father’s “career”. Before it was too late to decide my major, I gave a chance for myself and picked something related to my future career.

     The most important event in my life, didn’t even happen to myself, but happened to my older sister, Becky. The reason I am writing about her is because the things that have happened to her and the things she has done in the past have affected me tremendously as well as my family. Her life used to be filled with nothing else but drugs, stealing, and lying. My family has never been the same since then.
