Significant To Me Quote

“Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.” I try to live by this quote by Charles R. Swindoll every day. I feel that this is a strong quote with a lot of meaning behind it and, it can be interpreted in many ways. In my opinion, we should see things in a positive way all the time. We also should do what we love every day because you never know how close you are to the end.

I choose this quote because the problems from his past keep causing problems for his future if he doesn’t figure out how to work through them.

This quote, on its most basic level, is saying to just close your eyes. But when the reader is told to “Just close your eyes” we automatically think that we are hiding from our problems. Closing your eyes is symbolic for hiding away from problems. But problems and challenges are the key features of what shape and mould our identity. If we take away this feature of ourselves, we are affecting our identity is a way which we may not want to. The challenges we overcome shape our identity. And the challenges that we fail, also shape our identity. We cannot hide away from them.

The reason why this is one of my favorite quotes is that as an individual we value the roles of our intuition and the rational mind to seek the life we wish for. Einstein was able to differentiate “our rational mind” versus “the rational mind” where one is knowing the importance of our priorities and the other is not knowing the importance. I chose this quote for my presentation because I love this quote as it reminds me to not to do silly things or to take shortcuts to escape hard work.
