Made for American TV, Silent Predators begins in 1979 with a very short scene where a man whose car has broken down on a lonely Californian desert road, flags a passing truck and asks for a lift….the truck driver happily obliges. Just to make conversation, the passenger asks the driver what load he is carrying in the large wooden crate which is firmly secured to the back of the truck, and he is told it contains a super-deadly breed of tropical rattlesnake which his is delivering to a zoo. After a few moments, the truck hits an obstacle in the road and crashes….both the driver and passenger are shaken but unhurt, then it is noticed that the impact has caused the wooden crate to smash open…. and, both men are attacked by the massive snake which …show more content…
The sobbing, terrified girl dashes back to town with the news of what has happened. Max Farrington is a property developer working on expanding the small Californian community in the middle of the desert area where the boy died from the snake bite. Harry Hamlin, the town’s new fire chief arrives and once he has learned about the recent snake attack, instantly crosses swords with Farrington when he realises that the somewhat ruthless man is planning to dynamite areas of desert on the edge of the town in order to build new houses, thus risking the disturbance of the snakes’ …show more content…
I personally don’t have a problem with snakes (although I’d not want come face to face with a dangerous breed) so I was able to happily watch the film from start to finish. I also noted that it appeared no snakes were mis-handled or badly treated during the filming process….well that’s how it comes across, it appearing that the creatures were respected. One thing watching Silent Predators did bring home to me is, thinking about ordinary rattlesnakes rather than the hybrid in the film, is how careful one would have to be when strolling through the countryside in parts of the USA where these creatures are rife. Best to keep your eyes/ears well tuned, and stay out of long grass I suppose. Even though Silent Predators is an exciting, absorbing and largely well-made film, it is rather predictable in that the format is the same as usual….killer (in this case snakes) on the loose, some people die, there’s a good guy and a bad guy plus a romance tickling around the edges. The ending is also predictable but missing something….I was hoping for a twist or an unsolved cliffhanger to hold onto, but there was none (I hope that doesn’t constitute a
The man and his son are caught by people in a truck, but the man shoots a man from the truck in the head, allowing them to get away.
“He walked six miles to the riverbank; did a slide-run-slide down into a ravine made almost inaccessible by brush. He reached through brambleslined with blood-drawing thorns thick as knives that cut through his shirt sleeves and trousers. All the while suffering mosquitoes, bees, hornets, wasps and the meanest lady spiders in the state. Scratched, raked and bitten, he maneuvered through and took hold of each berry with fingertips so gentle not a single one was bruised. (136) and “They open to the sun, but not the birds, ‘cause snakes down in there and the birds know it,” (156).
While two of the robbers have been robbing one car, another robber holds the engineer at gunpoint. A fourth robber struggles with another man, who grabs a shovel for defense and climbs on top of the train. They engage in a fist-fight the robber takes a lump of coal and strikes the man on the head several times until he is unconscious. Then after overpowering him, he hurls the victim's body off the top of the moving train. Two robbers then force the engineer to bring the train to a stop
The little child was immediately disregarded because of his age, which shows the standards of society. He was judged strictly on his time on Earth, when he could be presenting a large issue. The little boy’s fear in the beastie shows his innocence and ignorance. As he is solely concerned on being protected from this creature that many know does not exist, he is
Once the snakes are caught, they go through a few different processes. First, they have their venom removed from
Curly, on his first attempt to stop the vandals, contacted a German man called Kalo. He had rented 3 guard dogs, but when Kalo came, while they negotiated, Kalo saw there were snakes in the lot, with a sparkly tail. Kalo then left because he did not want the dogs to get bit because they were expensive.
In the first place, snakes can be extremely enormous and the people that buy the Burmese python snakes don’t know that at all.The text states from source 1," largest snakes in the world, capable of growing to an astounding length of 23 feet and a weight of up to 200 pounds." These snakes can be extremely dangerous. Does anyone notice how long they grow? I do not understand why people would buy these snakes when they know that the snakes can and will be dangerous. Well, a result of this is, they do not know anything about them and they just buy them. That is why they are

“No – wait – I can explain!” he cries, eyes wide with worry. He attempts to run after her but she ignores him as she slips away into the crowded streets. He searches briefly, but to no avail.
Jack begins to take control and make his own decisions with the hunters. The hunters stopped worrying about the fire on top of the mountain and are starting to play and not take anything seriously. The boys are becoming less civilized with crazy thoughts because of Jack’s leadership. They begin to hunt for the imaginary beast that they believe roams the island. Jack kills a pig and puts its head on a spear as a warning to the beast. The boys see someone running across the beach at night and assume he is the beast and kill him without thinking. This ended up being one of the boys, a guy named
Despite the rattler showing several instances of good character, it is slain by the man causing readers to feel sympathetic for the snake because it had done nothing wrong. The moment the rancher and the rattler cross paths, the rattler is very poised and calm. The snake’s “...head was not drawn back to strike but was merely turned...to watch what [the rancher] could do,” (5). The snake’s initial unperturbed reaction towards the rancher shows that it is unafraid of the man and is willing to confront him face-to-face which disproves the conniving snake stereotype. The rattler simply “held [its] ground in calm watchfulness...waiting for [the rancher] to show [his] intentions”(8-9). The rattlesnake is confident in itself
Eddie meets his former captain from the army, who Eddie find sitting in a tree. The captain reminded me of the time their times together as prisoners in a forced labor camp. When the captain and his men escape from the prison prison camp the men were tending to Eddie 's leg wound in the back of the truck. As he scouted ahead he stepped on a landmine that would have destroyed the truck and killed everyone in the truck but the landmine didn 't go off.

I decided to discuss about this article because we need to create awareness of the causes and the prevention of this silent killer. I really liked the manner in which the article is developed, it provides fabulous and detailed information that allowed the reader to create a clear scenario of what is to have a heart attack, the causes, the symptoms and the treatment. To speak of health today is not to speak exclusively of curing illnesses. Talking about health is, above all, in these times, talk about prevention. To take care of the body and the mind to have a better quality of life in the present and in the future. In this context, awareness of the factors that can affect our cardiovascular health is fundamental, since it is the main cause of death and disability of women in our country and the
When the boys start to believe in the presence of a beast, they become more chaotic and Ralph starts to lose control of them. He tries to squash this fear as it could cause chaos and disarray on his otherwise orderly paradise. For this reason, when a young boy tells Piggy about a “snake-thing” in the woods, Ralph discredits his story by saying, “‘You couldn’t have a beastie, a snake-thing, on an island this size’” (28). Soon after the little boy's story, the group’s imagination runs wild as they speculate that the monster comes from the sea and is eating the pigs on the island and that it . When Sam and Eric believe they saw the beast, the nights transform from a time of rest into a time of fear and unease. Jack, who wants more power, assures the boys that he will hunt and kill the beast in the most vicious way possible by explaining how “If there’s a beast, we’ll hunt it down! We’ll close in and beat and beat and beat-!” (79). Jack’s confidence earns the group’s respect and loyalty which draws the boys away from Ralph’s calm and orderly leadership and towards Jack’s savage and brutal ways. Jack ability to dominate the setting due to his frequent hunting earns even more of the boys support. This is one of the many reasons the boys choose brutality over reason. Despite the exodus of the boys from his leadership, Ralph is determined not to let the savagery overwhelm him and distract him from his goal of being rescued.
