Imagine a world where the people holding power always did what was good for everyone. As history has taught us, this doesn’t always happen. Animal Farm, by George Orwell, is a complex story about the dangers of too much government power, and the ones in power are definitely not doing things for the good of others. When the pigs take control of the farm, they become greedy, dishonest, and deceitful. Orwell lived in Europe during the time of the Russian Revolution, when there were countless dictatorships around the world. He wrote this story to symbolize (and mock) the Russian Revolution; which includes Karl Marx, Leon Trotsky, Joseph Stalin, and Vyacheslav Molotov. Orwell uses this story, where the oppressed become the oppressors, to warn the world about the power of the government. He also warns the reader not to let the corrupt control and not stand by and let it happen. He shows that the abuse of absolute power can lead to corruption, violence, and finally, chaos.

The animal fable is used to demonstrate the issues of unfair treatment, exploitation and inequality in society. It is evident that this irony is particularly evident in the ending of both novels (Gulbin 88). The satirist irony is directed on the events of the Russian Revolution and on the totalitarian regime. Orwell uses political reason with creative reason to show his negative belief that people only change the dictators though revolutions but the systems stay the same. It is only a dream that people can gain a classless society through revolutions. Orwell believes that everyone wants equality, yet it is in one's nature as human beings to obtain power.

People are intrigued by a book through its content. However, when a reader can relate to the book, it reminds them of their own life story. This is exactly what Orwell did when writing Animal Farm. He created the book to open people’s eyes and see what was really going on in front of them. Animal Farm intrigues so many people because though it is a fiction book, it is based on true events that happened in Russia. Animal Farm, a book based on Stalin’s Russia, can be interpreted in several ways: the similar characteristics between Stalin and Napoleon, the animal parallels, and the parallel between Stalin’s Russia (USSR) and the Animal Farm.

Although there are a few differences between Animal Farm and the Holocaust, my dystopian novel based off of the Russian revolution compared to the entirety of the Holocaust, are very similar in many different ways. Both showed terrible, worst case scenarios, hoping to make a form of a "perfect society" through totalitarian control. A few ways they were similar include, having a dictatorial leadership, murdering large masses of innocent people, and the special treatment to a specific group.

Most believe when George Orwell wrote Animal Farm he was trying to warn us about several thing, some of those things include communism, revolution, and class divide. Orwell points out the dangers of communism by putting the dangers in a understandable, digestible cute story with animals. He shows the dangers of revolution by remind us how some revolutionions just end up being a switch a power to someone worse. And he reminds us about the dangers of class divide by have a big ruling class destroy all others. George Orwell wrote “Animal Farm” to remind us the dangers of communism, revolution, and class divide.

In Orwell's book the animals felt that they were being treated much as the slaves had been. The animals wanted equal rights, equal benefits and to be treated as they should be. The slaves who were very much equals, wanted the same rights as the animals in Animal Farm.

These are important questions for all humans living in the modern world and the answers to these questions radically affect the way that we view how power should be used. In George Orwell’s novel Animal Farm, we see that once the animals gain power over the farm they have the good life and live in a perfect society. In the Truman Show, directed by Peter Weir, we see that Truman doesn’t know that Christof is controlling his life and he is always working towards living what he thinks is the good life. The good life is determined by having everything perfect. This then affects what the perfect society would look like because if everyone didn’t have very much and wasn't treated equally the world would be a horrible place. People in power try to create perfect societies so people can live the good life.

My take on this story's message, is in reference, to what I believe to be the most famous line in the entire story “ All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others.” Basically stated, you have to be careful when you are trying to change things, otherwise you might become the thing you are trying to fight; communism in this setting, and that power manipulates for its own means.
