Many people believed that the United States should primarily worry about its own issues and problems, and let the world handle their own problems. President Wilson was a person who believed that there was a peaceful solution for any conflict. When World War I broke out in Europe President Wilson spent several years trying to keep America from entering the war. President Wilson even went as far to offer to be a mediator between the two conflicting sides to help bring the war to an end. In addition President Wilson was heavily criticized by other great American leaders when he declined to build up the U.S. Army to prepare for War. As much as President Wilson tried to fight against the war events such as the Zimmerman Telegraph, Unrestricted Submarine Warfare, and the decisive shift in American pro-war sentiment made American entering the war inevitable.

Woodrow Wilson and Theodore Roosevelt were two of America’s great presidents. This is why I feel that both men were equally important in what they did and said they would do. Both in their own ways have added a little of what makes this country what it is today. Both had their own beliefs of how reform, empowerment of the people and foreign policy should be accomplished. As president, the main goal was to do what they felt best for the American people. In doing so, how different could they really be?

Although Roosevelt was a great United States President, there is the matter of how exactly the United States entered World War II. There is no debate that Roosevelt thought that the United States should enter World War II. He knew that fascism was wrong and that the Axis Powers, led ultimately by Adolph Hitler of Germany, had to be defeated to protect democracy. When Roosevelt was in office, his Corollary went into role. Then, when Wilson took his place, his annual message affected the nation greatly. These opposing views caused problems not only in the United States, but in foreign countries also.

Woodrow Wilson, our 23rd president, became involved in a war that he did not want any part of. Wilson wanted to remain neutral and have peace as in his first term of office. During World War I Wilson’s roles in the war became well known in all countries. Wilson wanted peace more than anything else. In seeking for peace Wilson asked Congress for the U.S. to enter World War I. which may not sound like a peace strategy but Wilson felt it was the only way to stop Germany and gain peace. The early 20th century brought about political, social, and economic changes as well as the steady incline of innovation and development of technology. This steady growth in policies and reform is known as the Progressive Movement. Two president’s during this time period were leaders of the progressive movement, Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson. While both of these men were advocates of political reform and social activity, the two presidents had differing opinions on what policies needed to be enacted. Theodore Roosevelt was a more effective president than Woodrow Wilson because Theodore Roosevelt's conservation efforts, domestic policies, and foreign policies had a greater impact on the development of American society.

When Wilson won the election from Taft Roosevelt, the Democrat party had more seats in the Congress than Republican. During the Wilson’s first inauguration, he did not address the racism problem in the country. Even thought democracy means social or political equality for all people, but Wilson extended the White Supremacy during his presidency (Dictionary.com). When Wilson made fourteen points to end the Great War, black leaders asked him to add the fifteen points to end the racial discrimination; Wilson refused it. However, the two leaders failed to end the racial discrimination, black suffered from lynching, torture, and segregation.

Roosevelt’s program of relief, recovery, and reform that aimed at solving the economic problems created by the Depression of the 1930’s, was referred to as the New Deal. The Great Society was the name given to the domestic program of the U.S. president Lyndon B. Johnson. Both programs had similar yet opposing points.

One big common personality both presidents does share is being a “good boy”. As describe in question one, Truman always have listened to his father and his family. Even though he was earning a lot of money being a bank clerk which would have been a better decision to stay with in order to help the family. But since his father needed him to help with the farm he decided to help with the farm. And ever since a small child, both of them had listened to their mother.
