The first similarity for these two books is there is a love story of some sort or the other.Which directly leads to the difference of the main characters in The Hunger Games the main character is a girl firstly and secondly the main character named Katniss Everdeen played by actor Jennifer Lawerence is in “love” with two people named Peeta and Gale.In The Maze Runner the main character named Thomas played by Dylan O’Brien is only in love with one character named Teresa.Another difference between the two books is in The Hunger Games the goverment controls the people in difference to The Maze Runner where scientist control the people.
Another connection between these two texts is the protagonists being portrayed as underdogs. This is probably why I favoured the protagonists and wanted them to win their games (Hunger games and Hunting game). Both the texts have confident and ruthless villains that believe the victims are their puppets. In the Hunger Games, this is the Capital city and predominantly President Snow. It is The Capital who choose to run The Hunger Games and they believe that the tributes from the lower districts have a very slim chance at winning.
My two novels, Divergent and The Maze Runner, have many similarities that I would like to discuss. Firstly, both novels focused on being thrust into a brand new world that the characters were not used to. Thomas(The Maze Runner protagonist)started off the book with him waking up inside of a cargo box, traveling upwards at an incredibly high speed, and with only the memory of his name. When Tris decided to join the Dauntless, she immediately had to adapt and change, from jumping from trains and buildings to fighting someone until submission or decommission. To add onto that, despite being both unfamiliar with their new lives, they were able to adapt fairly quickly with Tris being first in the second and third round of initiation, and
The common thread between these two novels is the author’s use of an oppressive conditions in the setting. In The Hunger Games, the oppressors are seen from the outside looking in. This is really shown in the character, Katniss Everdeen, and her struggle to escape this environment. However, in Bradbury’s work, the reader sees what it is like to be the oppressor. He spins the story in such a way that all appears normal in this exact area, however there are clearly problems on the fringe of this environment. This is a great example of viewpoint, and how the character’s background and societal norms play a large role in determining mood, and developing the
The hunger games also are based in a futuristic society as applies to the book the Fahrenheit 451. The setting in the novel is one of complete disarray in the order of the society as is the case in the novel the Fahrenheit 451. The Hunger Games is a dystopian novel, but its content is far more political than any other novels written in the twenty-first century. The novel revolves around a young female teenager who is engaged in a young triangle with other two young men. The young men are Peeta Mellark and her best friend, Gale. The main idea, however, is the task that the young teenager, who happens to be the main character is faced with. Katniss Everdeen as is the name of the girl, is faced with the task of uniting her Falk in an uprising against the cruel system of administration which happens to be taking advantage of the other population (Dubrofsky
In the two dystopian novels Fahrenheit 451 and The Hunger Games, their protagonists Guy Montag and Katniss Everdeen do have a couple of differences. The first difference between Montag and Katniss are the consequences given to them throughout their novels. Montag, in Fahrenheit 451, was hiding illegal books in his house knowing how big of a punishment he could get. The head fire chief, Beatty, found out and sent the mechanical hound to chase Montag down and try to kill him. Bradbury describes Beatty’s anger towards Montag evidently: “It was pretty silly quoting poetry around free and easy like that. It was the act of a silly damn slob… Look where they got you, in slime up to your lip. If I stir the slime with my little finger, you’ll drown!” Different from Montag, Katniss in The Hunger Games snuck over the fence to
The Hunger Games, directed by Gary Ross, and Maze Runner, directed by Wes Ball, are films with similar themes such as heroism, dystopian world and sacrifice. Both films involve killing of innocent lives by authorities in charge as a mean to find peace. The Maze Runner is about finding a cure of civilisation whilst the The Hunger Games uses the competitions in order to control the population and prevent an uprising. Katniss in the film is a 16 year old girl who volunteers as a tribute in the competition. Thomas is also a 16 year old Glader who was forced to be inside the maze by the Creators. The themes and filming techniques used by Gary Ross and Wes Ball in both in their will be compared in order to see the similarities. There are two
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and The House of the Scorpion written by Nancy Farmer have many opposing opinions, views, symbols, characters, plots and settings; however both novels retain several similarities as well. Katniss Everdeen lives in a make belief, future country called Panem. The Capitol rules the surrounding 12 districts in a dictator- like way. In punishment for the districts past rebellion the Capitol decreed that every year each District must offer up one young man and woman to compete in the annual Hunger Games in which the tributes have to fight to the death and in order to win, have to be the last living tribute in the arena. Katniss is thrust into the games when she volunteers to take younger sisters place in the Hunger Games. In the other hand The House of the Scorpion is set in the future pseudo country called Opium. Matt the main character and the protagonist in the story is one of El Patron’s many clones. El Patron, who is the ruler of Opium, uses these clones for organ transplant to lengthen his life. However Matt escapes his cruel, appalling fate with the help of Tam Lin, Maria and Celia and ends up out-living El Patron, making him the new ruler of Opium. Although The Hunger Games and The House of the Scorpion are two very differently unique and marvelous stories, in my assessment and opinion they have a few similarities such as the symbols, characters, characters personalities, plots and settings.
The Hunger Games movie has a good amount of similarities to the book. For instance, the plot of the movie and the book The Hunger games are very closely related. For example, Katniss drops tracker jackers on the career tributes and kills Glimmer and that is how she gets her bow and arrows. She also
In Divergent by Veronica Roth and The Hunger Games by Susam Collins they both show the struggles of a possible future in a dystopian universe. Both stories are set in future America after a cold, long war, and show examples of symbolism consequently showing signifance in both their plots. In The Hunger Games the mocking jay is a symbol for hope, freedom, and rebellion. After the reaping the mayors daughter gives Katniss a mocking jay pin to represent her support for her.
You just finished reading the book series of Divergent. But you feel like you already read about Beatrice somewhere. You are probably thinking about The Hunger Games. Beatrice, from Divergent, resembles Katniss, from The Hunger Games, in many ways. Both girls are able, strong, brave, and kind. Both are heroes. Both have the ability to save the day. Both have a similar background story, coming from a hard childhood. From the lead character to the conflict, and many instances in between, the Divergent series is an imitation to The Hunger Games series.
The Maze Runner, written by James Dashner is the first book in the Maze Runner pentalogy. The story follows the adventures of a sixteen-year-old boy named Thomas, who finds himself waking up in the heart of a labyrinth, titled ‘The Glade’. As it turns out there are many teenage boys accompanying Thomas. The aim is to escape from the labyrinth, but this does not go as effortlessly as it sounds, due to the fact that the labyrinth is constructed by the inexplicable and threatening WICKED (World In Catastrophe Killzone Experiment Department). At nightfall, the walls of the labyrinth move and barricade the four entrances of the labyrinth. The walls prevent the boys from being attacked by creatures called grievers, who walk around the labyrinth every night. Survival intuition, faith and friendship are some of the themes portrayed in the book. In the film adaptation of The Maze Runner, there are three highly visible differences in comparison to the book. In the first place, Dashner delightfully depicts the thought processes of the protagonist in the book, whilst in the film this is not portrayed at all. Secondly, the time frame of the film is diminished, which makes the story less plausible. Lastly, the strong characters Dashner developed for the books are nullified in the film adaptation. Therefore,
Novel and movie adaptation of The Hunger Games are slightly difference between the character details and stories but the main stories point is still the same. When I watch and read the Hunger Games I noticed the slight differences in the stories specially the character. The characters designs in the movie are slightly difference from novel especially the main character. The main character which is called Katniss Everdeen has olive skin and black hair but in the movies her skin color was white with chocolate hair. Her build is also smaller in novel adaptation than movie adaptation. The supportive character is also difference example Haymitch Abernathy which is paunchy middle-age man who is mentor for Katniss Everdeen in Hunger games. He has
The second aspect of the telescreen is the media; it was used to transfer news and announcements to the party members. Similarly in The Hunger Games: Mokingjay, media was used by opposite sides: the current government and the uprising government The rebels depended on the media in order to influence the masses. This specific book largely revolves around the power of media and the broadcast war between the current regime, the Capitol, and the uprising system lead by Plutarch. “"Our plan is to launch an Airtime Assault," says Plutarch.”To make a series of… 'propaganda spots'-featuring you - Katniss, the protagonist -, and broadcast them to the entire population of Panem."”
The Maze Runner and the Hunger Games are especially famously almost the same is the "survival" story-line that is used but the Maze Runner is more along the lines of an after the terrifying end of the world story. The Hunger Games is more along the lines of an after the war story line but that part of the story the separation of the Districts is not seen told until much later. Katniss Everdeen always hunted for food for her family with her bow- and – arrow in which is precision that is her specialty (Schwazbaum). The means of her survival in the hunger games is the bow and arrow. The glade is where Thomas was
“ In the United States today approximately 15 to 20 percent are in the poor, lower class; 30 to 40 percent are in the working class; 40 to 50 percent are in the middle class; and 1 to 3 percent are in the rich, upper class.” The novel 1984 written by George Orwell is a dystopian novel about a man named Winston Smith, who struggles to find individuality in an oppressive government, that scrutinizes every human action of their citizens. The second novel is The Hunger Games, written by Suzanne Collin, this novel is about a girl named Katniss Everdeen, who volunteers for her sister in an event that the government created to keep control of their citizens. Both these novels are built on hierarchy with a totalitarian dictator. In The Hunger Games and 1984 these novels address the injustice of social hierarchy, destructive nature of the government, and the dangers of abusive powers. These novels are showing what could possibly happen to today’s society if the power end up leading
