“Behemoth!” I screamed, overjoyed, causing a few people to turn their heads, “Finally, it’s coming out! I can’t wait!” My father and I have always shown substantial interest in book series. One of which was the Bowl Of Souls series. Until recently, I would have never compared anyone in my family to a book character. One day, I was brainstorming and commenced to realize how similar my father is to Sir Hilt, a named warrior from the Bowl of Souls series. Author, Trevor H. Cooley implied that Sir Hilt was quick-witted and how willing he is to assist people. In many ways my father is similar to Sir Hilt; weather it be mental/physical strength, impact they have on others, or the admiration and loyalty to those around them. Sir Hilt would have to posses a remarkable amount of mental strength to be able to go through daily struggles of fighting beasts and still be mentally stable and intelligent as he is. He battles physical and internal; that he overcomes and somehow continues to assist others. Hilt is living (in the book) proof of being able to proceed through hard trials, stay tenacious, and remember who he is and his standards. He doesn’t stray from his standards nor does he belittles people for their standards even though they don’t believe in the same things he does. Hilt has an enormous amount of mental strength. Although my father doesn’t fight living monsters, he still goes through hard trials many wouldn’t be able to do if they were mentally weak. He can repeatedly goes
The 1998 movie, Bulworth, dives into the realm of the scandalous American political system. From income inequality, to corporate greed, Bulworth manages to put a comedic twist on a very serious set of topics that politicians and the American public face daily. The main character, Jay Billington Bulworth is a liberal democratic Senator from California who is running for reelection (Bulworth: 1998). He has recently accepted millions of dollars in financial campaign donations from large corporations in order to combat his younger, populist opponent. At the beginning of the movie, Bulworth is sitting in his office, re-watching an old commercial from a prior election campaign. He hasn't slept or eaten for days and is considering ending his life.
Arthur Bauer was hanging out with his friend Erik Fisher. He knew that he would be unpopular if he did not obey Erik. Recently, Arthur even killed a man named Luiz Cruz. He always hated to carry out these evil plans, but he felt forced to do it to protect his status. The first thing that Erik got Arthur to do was to make fun of the death of his old friend, Mike Costello. “Ha! Do you remember the picture of his face! Priceless!” Erik laughed. “Pretty soon we’ll get to see the close up!”
The way in which these heroes fought their battles reveals their strengths and weaknesses. Beginning in Beowulf’s first quest, his bold personality allows him to undertake his task head on and with bravery. When Beowulf fights Grendel, he is daring and noble enough to fight the monster without any weapons. If Beowulf had a weak personality he would not have been courageous enough to fight Grendel without weapons although he does mention that it is the honorable thing to do. During Beowulf’s final quest he willingly fights the dragon for his people although he knows he will die doing so. “...---a king, before, but now / A beaten warrior.” Beowulf’s strong personality allowed him to be noble whereas Arthur’s frail personality did not allow him to stand up for what he knew was right. Arthur’s wife Guenever was involved in an affair with his best friend Lancelot. Knowing that this was occurring, Arthur failed to address the issue, slowly causing him to become a sad old king. Arthur was also much weaker than Beowulf because Arthur failed to overcome the temptation of Queen Morgause, thus committing incest. Not only does the strength of each character affect their quests, it also affects the use of symbolism through the sword in each tale.
In the land of the Geats many warriors have been raised to be boastful and confident. Through the culture of the Anglo-Saxons, the Geats became barbaric figures unlike the Celtic people who resemble the five knightly virtues. Beowulf helps resemble the Anglo-Saxon culture through his passion, ambition, and courage as well as through the stories of his successes that he shares. Gawain differs from this confidence and boastful attitude of the Geats due to the humble and courteous attitude that he carries. This difference in Celtic and Anglo-Saxon cultures can be seen in Beowulf 's heroic journey due to the physical trials that Beowulf goes through versus the virtuous and trials to character that Gawain faces. This difference from the emphasis on physical trials in Beowulf and the emphasis on the test of character in Gawain therefore demonstrate the difference in the two cultures that each hero belongs to.

Beowulf represents a type of protagonists rarely seen in the modern world of entertainment, the epic hero. For centuries their simplistic tales of overcoming evil and their demeanor have dominated Western notions of masculinity: Control over emotion, physical strength, arrogance, innate morality, and an alpha male mentality. It might be ideal for older cultures and the Anglo-Saxon warriors that needed a model of morality they need to idolize, but in our times we need more. The America we live in is more global, more diverse, more interconnected that any previous civilization. Our definition of masculinity has changed as we progressed and learned more about ourselves as humans. We are postmodern society, where good and evil are subjective, and we crave for empathy and connection. Berserk’s main character Guts, is such hero of our time. On the surface the two heroes share many similarities, they are both buff hyper-masculine males, they both wield enormous swords to fight fantastical monsters. Yet there are fundamental differences between the two. These became apparent after reading and analyzing both Beowulf and Berserk.
The two unnamed people are discussing about Ender’s incident on the flight and it turns out that one of them is Graff. Graff insisted that Ender remains separate from the others so that he will think no one will be there for him so he has to be there for himself. The other guy asks Graff whom they will go to when Ender cannot handle the tasks anymore, and Graff says he will create a list. The discussion ends with Graff saying Ender can’t have parents, but can have friends.
Rhodes: I think, without sounding so negative, when you're told you're not great from your employer, when your employer tells you you're not good or when his exact words are, "there's no interest in you," to your face, you want to change that opinion, you want to prove them wrong. It's motivating, it's probably good leadership to some degree but when I was unable to do so because of playing essentially my half brother's character [Stardust] long past the point that I was supposed to continue with it was just discouraging because I was boxed into that. You can't prove them wrong when you're doing essentially slapstick comedy. As much as I love Jim Carrey riddler, I could only rip him off so much. So it's my chance to get back on track from
After all this, for the safety of the Harkers, Jonathan and Mina go to live with Seward at the asylum for a bit. Mina types up Seward's written accounts of the killing of Lucy. Seward reads over Jonathan's journal. He finds out that lives next to Dracula! The group wonders if Dracula's closeness in relation to Renfield is what causes the sudden changes in his behavior. This would also explain the incident with the bat on one of Renfield’s escapes. Renfield is very calm currently. Seward says that he appears almost sane. Mina asks to see Renfield, and her wish is granted. During Mina's visit, Renfield is basically normal. Van Helsing comes to see them and thanks Mina for typing everything up. He hopes that Mina won't have to do anything further in the terrible task ahead. Van Helsing tells all the characters about
The main character is judged only by his connection with a gang instead of an individual. when a young couple see Andy on the sidewalk in the dark alley a boy named Freddie rushed him to him to help him. " He's a royal"he said, it shows that instead of knowing his name, they see him as "just" a gang member. just by reading his jacket that's read ROYAL, they knew to not to get involved and decided to run away.
Both of these characters are strong, powerful warriors due to their devotion towards battle, levelheadedness and most importantly, to God. From his beginnings, the Knight “devoted himself to chivalry \ truth and blameless courtesy” (Chaucer Ln 45-46). He pushed on and on through several battles always coming out on top “with no loss to
Personality: She tends to keep her cards close, as she finds trusting others to be quite the challenge. She tends to get lost in her thoughts and can come off as cold as a result. She can seem very warm and friendly when she's trying to scam someone, though that is usually her trying to get her target to lower their guard. She loves the rush of combat, but has a heavy distaste for killing other people. As such, combat is usually her last resort if she cannot scam her way out of a situation. She is quick to lend a helping hand to others for a price, but has a soft spot for children that are seeking food.
Throughout the book, Margery Kempe describes the events that took place during her lifetime, and were written as she could remember them, not as a chronological and organized order. In today’s society, Margery Kempe may have been known as someone who suffered from post partum psychosis after her numerous childbirths. This could have been a diagnosis due to her rampant disorganized behavior, continuous hallucinations, and her self-destructive behavior depicted throughout the entire novel.
