Heroes can be found anywhere on television, real life, and in books, but no heroes have achieved what Sir William Wallace has. The events that led to William Wallace’s heroic deed were rather painful and sad. William Wallace was a poor farm boy who lost both his father and brother to the English. When Sir William grew up, he secretly married a woman, who was later executed by the English for assaulting one of the king's guard, who tried to rape her. The way he fought for the independence for Scotland was the most heroic thing. William Wallace did not have any super powers but fought the English with only a steel sword and strategy, strategies like turning sawed down trees into giant spears to counter the taking down the horses of the English
Voting for president of the United States is a very big concern. Americans vote for their president elect on several different categories, campaign platform, personal beliefs, Democrat or Republican Party, and in the earlier years, whether they were from the North or the South. One such person was George C. Wallace. Wallace campaigned in favor of segregation, but was he really for segregation, or did he just believe that the government was stepping on state’s rights?
Oliver Cromwell could be seen as a hero because he created a stronger army for England which gave them a more effective fighting force. He said that he didn’t want power to himself which can be seen as a good thing. He also bought peace to England as he ended the English
Heroes comes in all different shapes and sizes. This is clearly seen when comparing the heroes in the stories of Beowulf, Cuchulainn’s Boyhood Deeds, Lanval, and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. For example, Beowulf and Cuchulainn both share traits of a hero; however, have drastic dissimilarities.
Heroes bring a hope to people whom they protect. Heroes bring people joy and bring a sense of relaxation to the people of their society because they play such an important role in lives everywhere. Heroes are complex rather than unembellished because they can fight dragons to defend their kingdom, or create a non-profit foundation to enhance the quality of life for more than 2,000 underprivileged kids. Heroes in our present day can be very complex because a person’s viewpoint on a hero’s life can be a completely different than the way another person looks at that same hero. Thomas Davis Sr. can be extremely comparable to Beowulf but they also have major differences.
Today in society there are many individuals who can be described as heroic because of their courageous actions towards helping others. People who do not believe in heroes today do not see the change happening around the world for the benefits of future generations. However, in reality many individuals are risking their own lives to fight for what they believe in and for the change they wish to see in this world. Alfred de Vigny asserts that there are no heroes in this world, but even ancient stories like Beowulf provide examples of heroes who risk their lives to save others while we do still have heroes during modern-day times.
Courage and selflessness are words that describe heroes. Mundane people can be heroes when they have enough perseverance to do extraordinary tasks. They sacrifice their needs for others. Frederick Douglass was a brave, honorable and bold abolitionist, his heroism was impactful and it changed the mindset of many people.
Sir William Wallace is believed to be one of Scotlands greatest national heroes. He led the Rising of 1297, in an attempt to reverse the loss of Scottish independence to England. He was knighted and made Guardian of Scotland. He later resigned after The Battle of Falkirk when he was defeated by the English cavalry. In August, 1305 he was arrested, condemned as a traitor, and killed. Scotland views Wallace as a national hero for his role in their freedom, however the English have viewed Wallace as a traitor, murderer, and an outlaw.
Today's modern day hero has similarities and differences than the Anglo-Saxon hero. The two heroes each have different values they believe in. Also, they are motivated to fight for different reasons. An Anglo-Saxon hero also fights differently than a modern day hero. An example of this comparison is Bono from the band "U2" and Beowulf. Both modern day heroes, like Bono and Anglo-Saxon heroes, like Beowulf, try to improve their societies, but do it in different ways and for different reasons.
Wallace had achieved many accomplishments through his life including, being a Texas Ranger, fighting in eight battles, and saving many lives along the frontier. He left a huge legacy on the Texas frontier by showing what bravery meant and helping the settlers colonize the wilds of Texas. He represents the Texas spirit by showing integrity and bravery to make the Texas frontiers a better place. While he`s not one of the hallmark names you hear everyday day he is a legend and while his story still goes unread he is the true meaning of a true Humble American Hero.
Heroes, from Beowulf to Superman our cultures have always created heroes. We may always have political, social, economic and religious differences, but at the end of the day we all have one thing in common, heroes. They help define who we are and what we want to be. They give us hope and inspire us to head in the right direction. They show us that good will always triumph over evil and that anything is possible if you set your mind to it. Heroes give us the inspiration we need to overcome problems in our own lives and that is why we create them. Beowulf perfectly embodies the idea of a hero. He defeats the evil Grendel and his mother, slays the dragon and saves his people. He is

First and foremost, a hero needs to be courageous enough to take action, even against impossible odds; although, the form that that courageousness takes are often different between heroes. Take Beowulf and Shahrazad for example. Beowulf is a famous and powerful Geat leader, a “man whose name was known for courage” (Beowulf 120), especially in the field of battle, where he best demonstrates his courageousness. When Beowulf hears of the attacks on Hereot, he quickly comes to offer Hrothgar his services, and in his first battle with Grendel, Beowulf displayed immense bravery and courage fighting the demon, knowing that he may well perish, and even more so in deciding to do battle bare-handed and naked
In the movie, Wallace is introduced to the audience as a common man with very humble beginnings whose father was a farmer. He was in fact not the son of a common farmer but the son of a low-level. Wallace first acted in anger against the English when he was insulted by the son of an English governor and proceeded to strike him dead and he began his military career. His military dream to free Scotland started in May 1297 after the murder of Marion Braidfoot who is the historical basis for the character Murron in Braveheart. Wallace won the battle of Stirling; he was kind of disappointed when he remembered that he had to fight the English king. The English king brought his army north. The English army had infantry and archers as well as over 3000 cavalry. The Scottish army was only half the size and had almost no cavalry. The Scottish army lost, Wallace however went into hiding. The film Braveheart makes the audience believe that Wallace went around killing his enemies in Scotland, there is however no historical evidence for this belief. Politics were beginning to change due to the manipulations of Edward I and even England’s enemies wouldn’t offer Wallace any help. After traveling to France, germane and Rome he returns to Scotland after almost years abroad to find out he was betrayed to the English by a Scottish noble named Sir John Menteith and was turned over to the English for a trial. He was then taken to for trial and execution. The film Braveheart is
William Wallace is considered a legend in Scotland. For years, England and Scotland were at war, and behind many of the battles for Scotland’s independence was William Wallace. While the information about him, like any good hero, might be over exaggerated by some historians, what’s true is that he gave the country hope that Scotland could be free from English Tyranny. For years after he died, others took his place in saving Scotland from English rule.
