Slenderman is a fictional character designed by Eric Knudsen in 2009 as a submission into a creepy photo shop competition on an internet forum titled Something Awful. Since, there have been several stories spawned; each telling a dramatically different tale. While he is a fictional character, the implications of his influence are very real.
On June 2009 the horror fan fiction web forum something Awful asked for ideas for a modern myth in which would terrify people (BBC news). One of the forum members, Eric Knudsen, submitted two-photo-shopped images that he created showing a tall, slender, faceless man in the background. These images have spawned stories, movies, drawings, comics and video games.

She had hoped to kill them both for Slenderman. This particular girl expressed immediate remorse and fortunately her mom and younger brother managed to get out of the home without injury.
The basic premise of Slenderman is that he will stalk you with out you being aware and either lure you to your death or drive you to a level of insanity that you become capable of murder. I believe the character himself is fictional, but the madness he creates is very real. Scientist still have so much to learn and so much undiscovered anomalies, but one thing is for sure, and that is that children with mental illness can be duped very easily. They are vulnerable and broken children.
I believe that Slenderman may create an outlet for children and young adults, that may have homicidal thoughts and are unable to understand them. These children read these stories and are immediately able to associate feeling they have with this character. They may even immediately believe that Slenderman is causing these feelings. It may even be relief to think that maybe there is nothing wrong with them and it has always been
What do you imagine when asked what a monster looks like? Perhaps you see “an imaginary creature that is typically large, ugly, and frightening.” (Oxford University Press) That is the stereotypical view of monsters in media, something false and horrible, our nightmares come to life. However, some would instead envision actual people, such as those that are cruel or evil.
Just as Edward is seen as the typical gothic horror “monster”, so can the “normal” suburban community. As has been discussed, the appearance of Edward can be considered monster-like, but what truly makes a monster, is its personality and what it
In the novel Freak the Mighty, author Rodman Philbrick uses two middle school best friends, Maxwell Kane, who is known as Max, and Kevin, who people call Freak, to show that family is not always what it seems. They go through many adventures together, such as crazy quests, facing the people who bully them and helping each other with their weaknesses. They have have had many ups and downs, but whatever happens by the end of the day their strong bond brings them back together. Although they may have a weird friendship, the two boys have a bond like no other. Their story shows that family is determined more by one’s actions than by blood.
Some of the events in Jeffrey Dahmer’s childhood can be seen as a direct line to his personality. When he was little he was a curious and extroverted child. However, after he
The contestants were to create paranormal-type photos using photo-editing software. Eric Knudsen (alias Victor Surge) is the creator of Slenderman. He took his entry one step further by adding in captions for the two photographs he entered. Each caption and photograph incited fear and morbid curiosity into those who saw it. From there, the legend of Slenderman took off. Other writers and creative enthusiasts took their own spin on the creature, writing intricate stories, making film series, and manipulating pictures which led to the creation a new monster for all to be afraid of or, in some cases, look up to and desire. Question One: Doug has a difficult family life. His father behaves less like a parent and more like a bully, but in Marysville, Doug meets other adults who show him kindness and compassion. Name a few of the adult characters in Okay For Now who offer Doug guidance and instruction. What does Doug learn from them? Support your response with evidence from the text.
Throughout the novel, Freak the Mighty, author Rodman Philbrick brings the two main characters, Max and Kevin nicknamed “Freak”, together through friendship between two completely different people. The two friends friendship made both Kevin and Max stronger in their own ways; whether it be Max and his self confidence or Kevin with his size. The friendship they had changed both the main characters and others around them for the better in the end. Friendship also taught them how to treat one another whether it be in the case of Max and his dad, Killer Kane, or Freak the Mighty and Loretta, a side character in the novel. Max and Kevin’s friendship made both of them stronger and taught them and everyone around new and important lessons.

Cory is naturally brilliant at sports due to his father skills. In his early years Troy played baseball as a result, Cory is now playing football. The idea set in the girl's head was that if someone were to be sacrificed Slenderman would allow them to live in the Creepypasta mansion among the other Creepypasta author’s. The idea to pick Payton was Anissa’s while the stabbing was done by Morgan. The girls had a sleepover the previous night and that was when the final details were discussed. The morning of the stabbing Morgan grabbed a knife from her kitchen fully intending to kill Payton. Sadly, her parents never noticed the knife was missing from their kitchen. They first lead Payton to a local park that had a public bathroom. They knocked out Payton in the bathroom and they tried to stab her there. However, Morgan began to back out and Anissa had to comfort Morgan telling her that everything was ok and there was a reason for stabbing Payton. Once Payton was conscious again the girls lead her in the woods to play hide-and-seek causing the girls to become separated. There Payton was ambushed by Morgan and Anissa. While Anissa was holding Payton down Morgan was stabbing Payton resulting in 19 stabs all over Payton’s body. They ran and left her there for dead no caring what would happen to their best friend. After a couple of hours a strong, scared, yet determined Payton managed to reach the nearest road where a cyclist came across her and called 911, saving her life. Payton was rushed to the nearest hospital and the girls were arrested. They were questioned on the events of the stabbing and they
He was checking in on her to make sure she was ok. He went to her room to check but when he walked, he didn’t find her. He went downstairs to see if she was down there and she wasn’t. He went outside and found her trying to kill herself. He took her down from hanging on the rope and took her inside. He found a knife in her pocket and was thinking that she was going to kill herself if the rope didn’t kill her. She was calming down and followed him to see where he put the knife, and she took it. When he went to sleep, she came into his room and killed while he was in the
Serial killers have fascinated the imaginations of people for a long time. One of the most notorious serial killers is Jeffrey Dahmer whose gruesome murders shocked the nation. Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer also known as Milwaukee monster was a notorious American serial killer and sexual offender in the 1980s and early 1990s. Between 1978 and 1991 Dahmer had murdered 17 men. His victims were usually raped, tortured, dismembered, and cannibalism was also involved. Jeffrey was a troubled child psychologically and his social skills had a lot to be desired. All the way through his childhood he was ignored and had queer fantasies of cadavers. In his adulthood this psychosocial status quo didn 't change and was in fact aggravated.
In the article "Slender Man is Watching" which tells the story of two girls, Morgan and Anissa, who stabbed there friend Bella because they believed in slender man. One criminological that could help explain the actions of these girls is the Humanistic Psychological Theory. The Humanistic Psychological Theory is based on that people can be good, but sometimes make bad choices. Morgan and Anissa made there choices off the idea that slender man was real and that he kidnaps children. Morgan admitted that she did not know why they decided to stab the girls which reveals she does know right from wrong. Safety is apart of the theory which I connect with the reasons behind the girls stabbing Bella. The girls thought they were making a sacrifice
Mental illness is heavily stigmatized in mainstream media sources, such as articles, books and movies. The character who is suffering from a mental disorder, which is stigmatized is often exaggerated for the sake of entertainment. The stigmatization of mental disorders is unfair to those who have mental disorders. The viewers of media are viewing those suffering from the disorders as “psychotic” or “crazy”, which is inaccurate and unjust to those affected. The media representation of the disorder provides vague and inaccurate causes and treatments. In the movie series “The Dark Knight Rises” and television series “Dexter”, the characters Joker and Dexter are afflicted with the mental disorder antisocial personality disorder; in which it creates
