Being raised in a small town, I constantly viewed my hometown being small as a bad thing. Throughout middle school and high school, my tiny town was a place I used to look forward to leaving, it definitely was not a place I thought I would find myself missing. The second I left my small town, I could not wait to go back home. I didn’t acknowledge how special it was to grow up in a town where I knew everyone and had the ability to leave my front door unlocked without worrying while I ran around town running errands. Looking back on my small town I have grown to love that I grew up in a tiny town in “the middle of nowhere.” It made me who I am today. Huge cities like New York City, Los Angeles, and Boston might be fun to visit, but I would …show more content…
Living in a small town, you are forced to find ways to stand out from the crowd, which easily teaches self-reliance and self-confidence. I have also learned to be trusting in other people, I have found that people mean well for the most part. Learning to trust people in a small town comes easily, the crime rate in my town is so low that the only things police have to worry about are misbehaving children. My parents never had to worry that I might be abducted or that I might get involved in illegal activities or get mixed up with the wrong crowd. I have developed a compassionate and constructive point of view in my life and learned to experience things that I would not have experienced otherwise.I have learned to appreciate the many traditions in my town, there are so many traditions that people in other places are too lazy to do. However, growing up in a small town has taught me to enjoy these as much as possible and to be a conscious and useful human being. I have learned the importance of family better than most people. Unlike the parents who have to juggle between work life and home life, my parents were able to be present at all my sports games, plays, and other extracurricular activities. Everybody knew my entire family, we have always been very attached to each other. Even though one day we all have to leave home because of work or college, my family will always be the greatest and valuable part of myself. My small town taught
Our Town is a play that takes place near the turn of the century in the small rural town of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire. The playwright, Thornton Wilder is trying to convey the importance of the little, often unnoticed things in life. Throughout the first two acts he builds a scenario, which allows the third act to show that we as humans often run through life oblivious to what is actually happening. Wilder attempts to show life as something that we take for granted. We do not realize the true value of living until we are dead and gone. The through-line of the action seems to be attention to the details of life. Wilder builds up a plot that pays attention to great details of living.
Now when I say tiny town I mean it. The population is about 1,400 people with one gas station, one grocery store, and 2 restaurants with some gift shops. The first time I saw Grand Marais we drove into town and in a blink of an eye it was gone. I’ve never seen anything like this other than in movies. We finally got to her cabin, and it was one of three houses on that entire road which at first seemed horrific. But something I’ll never forget is how bright the stars were. We stood outside and saw every star in that sky, since there wasn’t many neighbors with their lights on, or highways with a cluster of traffic. The first morning I was ther, Brooklyn started to show me some amazing spots such as Hurricane river, Tahquamenon Falls, Marquette Harbor, and so much more. I got to experience a place that most people don't even realize is on the map. When the vacation was finally over I asked my friends back at home what they did. Which you can probably guess was them glued to their phones and laptops all summer. I had an amazing summer that I’ll always remember, and I'm glad it didn't involve
Growing up in a small town, with the knowledge of a small town community can have an effect on you. Having the respect and dignity to know between right and wrong adds and interesting aspects into a life style. Growing up in a small community makes you realize what it is like to have small class rooms and having your teachers know you by a first name basis.Knowing everyone on each sport team because “everyone knows everyone in a small town”. I had the ability to be able to ride my bike down the street without a real question of my safety where I grew up in Worland Wyoming. I have different academic interests than others may, I enjoy different extracurricular activities than other students, and life experiences that are unlike anyone else that have shaped me into who I am today.
While it may sound cliché, it is pretty much true that everyone knows everyone else's business in a small town. This can be both comforting and concerning for a teenage girl. While it is nice to live in a place where everyone knows your name, it does not allow a great deal of room for error. Since my parents are both educators, they have always had a front row seat for who my friends were, what my grades were in my classes, and if I was causing any problems. I used to think this was a real burden to bear, but now that I am older I see that it has taught me some valuable lessons and shaped my personality for the better. It makes me think about my choices and if they are something that I would be proud for everyone to see. It makes me value close friends and people who know my history and where I came from and love me for all of it (or in spite of it!). It makes me understand that all actions have consequences, and I need to be prepared to deal with them with honesty and integrity. Living in a small town is much like being a movie star or a professional athlete. Everyone knows you, and some of them look up to you, so you need to live your life in a way that can be an example for
For most of my life I lived in a place that you have probably never heard of. Chinook, Montana is a town of around 900 residents that stands in the shadow of a long-abandoned sugar beet factory, surrounded by fields of cattle and wheat. For the Billions of people who will never step foot in this place, it is simply another desolate town like the many others that faintly dot the map in the middle of nowhere. Yet for me, it was and always will be my hometown. For most people, living in a place this small and remote can hold them back, the poor level of educational resources and overall economic opportunity do not necessarily create a breeding ground for highly successful individuals. In my case however, being raised in Chinook pushed me to do more and be bigger than my simple roots. It has driven me to give the town someone to be proud of and to prove to the world that big people do come from the small places of this country and not just the sprawling metropolises. A place that has been a hindrance to most was for me the crucible that galvanized my character, my perspective, and my passion; all of which have lead me to writing this paper today.
Growing up in a very little town in Illinois was a lot different than growing up in Houston, Texas. When I was in the fourth grade I found many things to have changed about my surroundings, I currently lived in a place where, the people thought and acted differently. I know now reading about it and understanding more that some of those changes were for the good and some were not. Small town living has its advantages such as, very close friendships, close approximately to may things, and friendly people. Looking back, I also realized that there were a lot of disadvantages such as lack of transportation, affects of a poor education, no opportunities for growth, crime, no diversity, and low paying jobs and housing. Now that I am older, and aware of the affects of living in a small town, I can see how these many things affected my life and will continue affect it in the future.
Growing up in a small town, there may not be many activities that seem interesting, but the things that seem to interest you can define what kind of personality you have. I was born and raised in Pensacola; it has given me the opportunity to explore a town filled with history. Growing up in a small town has also given me the chance to meet new people and spend time with my family. Family has always played a large part of my life, because I am constantly talking to them. My mother is the oldest out of seven children and my father is the youngest out of six children, as a result, it has given me a large family and is has given me people in my life I know I am able to rely on. Also, being part of a Vietnamese culture, it has given me the
It made me realize how far away some communities are from large city centers and it brought me to question the values gained through education when exploring our immediate community/landscape. What we learn is really based off where we are living at the time. It wasn’t until this moment that I realized the validity of a statement like “It’s a great place to raise a family”. I am now beginning to question the community that raised me and how it has influenced me as a person and furthermore how it will translate into my
Living and growing up in a small town is better than doing so in a big city.

Many families and individuals find themselves at some point questioning the advantages of city living versus country living. It is nearly impossible to find a good answer to this question. What is good for one person might not be good for another. Some people enjoy the busy, hyper active metropolitan city where they can use all amenities and have unlimited opportunities for work and leisure. At the same time, other people feel the urge to be closer to Mother Nature, relaxation, beauty, and peace. They take pleasure in living in the calm and peaceful environment of the countryside and spending their free time fishing, hiking, picking berries in the woods, or playing in the creek. In my opinion, the nature
I would have never thought that I would grow up to love the country life. I went from growing up in a big, busy, and hectic city, to a small, slow-paced, and simple town. I was so used to having neighbors, and walking and biking on a side-walk. Now I live on a gravel road with almost no neighbors. A change in environment really influences a person's personality. I now love the silence and hearing the birds chirp and coyete’s howl. The corn fields go on for miles and the sunsets are breathtaking.
Growing up in a small town in central Minnesota offered me many valuable experiences. My town has given me so much, and I always knew someday I wanted to be able to give back. I have
Where I live is one of the greatest neighborhoods in the city to live in; however it does have its draw backs. Importantly it has nearly everything a resident might want, beautiful picturesque scenery, proximity to shopping, and many of the cultural centers. Nevertheless the roads can be some of the most congested in town, and the streets are not safe to walk late at night.
