I believe everyone switching to flip phones would arguably be a change for the better for today’s society. We, as a society, have become too dependent upon smartphones and need to look back upon earlier skills and bring them back. People don’t spend enough time outside anymore, flip phones are more protective than smartphones, and you become more social when you don’t spend hours on a smartphone every day. These are the main reasons I believe flip phones are a better choice than smartphones. To begin with, one growing problem across the world is that people are starting to rely on technology; they become lazier as the days go by. I find this to be an extensively large problem because people won’t know what to do if they, for say, run out of gas in the middle of the desert, get stranded in a blizzard, or are lost in the woods. You need to know what precautions to take and risks alike. People are beginning to know less and less about the environment around them that could prove as a disadvantage if any of the situations above were to happen. Also, the less time you spend on your phone, the more time you have to go outside and exercise. Even if you have to start small with exercise, even the longest journeys start with a first step. If there is one thing I have ever learned, it is that you learn through experience; not everything is gained from reading. For example, experiencing how people live in a third world country isn’t comprehensible, no matter what you believe, for a person living with the liberties of running water, technology, and others utilities. Many people in these other countries can’t even depend on a stable salary. A screen can’t teach you what it is like for these people; if you want to know how they get by every day, you would have to go experience it yourself. In addition, flip phones are more protective than smartphones in several ways. In the most obvious way, flip phones are protected by their front cover automatically making them more durable at a much cheaper price whereas smartphones are much more expensive but their screens don’t have a cover. If you want a more protective smartphone, you must spend an extra eighty to one hundred dollars to get a protective case. However, if you
People rely on technology to survive in today’s society. People feel like they have to always be on their phones to be accepted, but they are missing life as it passes right in front of them. For example, I tend to get annoyed when I try to have conversations with my little sister and she sits on her phone not talking or paying attention. I have to take her phone to get her to look me in the eye and talk about things. People in today’s society lack socializing skills and that is all thanks to technology.
Smartphones are overtaking the technology world by making it easier for people to communicate with each other every day; and everything they need to do can be done right on their smartphones. Instead of having to use cameras to take pictures, computers to send emails and to play games it all can be done on one simple device; the smartphone. A big debate that still has not been settled is whether iPhones are better or if Samsungs are better. Most people would say iPhones are better than Samsungs, however, Samsungs are the better smartphones. While both phones meet the basic phone requirements such as calling and texting, Samsung is better because it does everything the iPhone can and more. However, Samsung does a better job at meeting people’s needs because it has everything the iPhone has plus more. Samsung is a better phone than the iPhone because it can set custom ringtones for different phone contacts, it also encourages multitasking with apps which allows work to get done faster, and an ID is not needed to call or text people. This is important because people will know when to pick up the phone based on the ringtone that has been assigned to a specific person.
“In the last 50 years, up to 100,000 Americans lost their lives due to inactivity leading to some sort of conditional disease such as heart disease [including the laziness within people of society]” (Wise 12). So many people have died from becoming lazy, doing nothing but go on their phones, devices, rather than doing everyday things. Technology has changed the way society approaches life, always depending on it rather than themselves and others. The society today consists of nothing but TV screens, telephone, smartphones, iPads, and items the 19th century would consider a dream to lay hands on. A book written by Bradbury presents lack of effort people put into their lives and society; Bradbury predicts how the future will become later on in the society. Becoming more similar to the laziness and ignorance in the novel, Fahrenheit 451, the society today struggles the society today struggles with dependency on technology which results to lack of social interactions with one another and failure in becoming literate with books.
Cell phones are another contradictory part of modern technology. When they were first open to the public, cell phones were used for no more than a simple phone call. However here we are years later with a phone, camera, computer, and television molded together to make what we call a smart phone. In fact, they are not even particularly used as a phone anymore, but rather for texting or scrolling through social media. Smart phones can be great for several reasons like having a long distance friendship or relationship, meeting new people across the world with similar interests, or keeping people you do not see day to day updated on your life through social media.
People think that technology is their life but in reality it is not. Technology is just something that entertains you. It is not the most important thing in life you can literally go at least a month without your phone even though you think that you cannot. I have had to do it before for six months. People can live without their phones and one example of putting our phones down is when I went to Altitude last night and we were all on trampolines playing dodge ball and throwing and dodging during the game and being active and none of us had our phones out texting or looking at social media so it really was not that hard to put down my phone. In Fahrenheit 451 there was a character named Montag
At this rate, the story that Bradbury is telling could sooner than later become reality. A few years back, technology was not as developed and was just mainly for communication. Now there is no place to go but to facebook, instagram, etc. There are also gadgets such as spell check which isn't helping with education either. People are also starting to take advantage of technology, and to them there is no point to do the work when you could just look it up. According to TechnoBuffalo, "… 78 percent of teens aged 12 – 17 now own a cell phone..." This percentage has also continued to rise and has no reason to stop now.
The overuse of some types of technology in our everyday lives, resulting in a diminished value for knowledge and education, is a growing problem in our society. For example, instead of focusing on reading a book many young adults will go on Instagram, YouTube, or Snapchat, which offer shortened
Reading has become a less populare past time. Before smart phones, my friends and I would talk about books, now our main topic of conversation is usually about the newest Grey’s Anatomy or Scandal episode.Technology runs our lives. This is illustrated in “Raising Smartphone Zombies”.It shows how kids and teens are addicted to their device and are troubled when it’s taken from them. Most kids will probably choose an episode of Scandal over reading, as a result they need to be reminded of all the great things that comes from reading.By reading we gain knowledge over simple things but it’s also proven that kids who read, have better spelling. It also reduces stress which can come in handy expecially if you go to Jasper. Even though I may not read
The standing stereotype of the current generation is that we are always on some sort of electronic. Whether it is our phone, tablet, laptop or television set, the more recent generations have been more glued to electronics than older generations. For myself this is especially true, as I am either on my laptop or my phone for either schoolwork or educational purposes, such as conducting research for essays, streaming movies and reading interesting articles online. Yet contrary to the stereotype, it is not a bad thing. As our access to the interweb has altered how we process information. Making us more efficient at how we process and look for information, along with how we communicate with others.
You can evaluate iPhone and Android devices from countless angles, so rather than pretend that we've got the One True Comparison, it only seems appropriate to highlight that we're not necessarily your average user. For more specifics on how we judge these devices, read this footnote.
My family has always been a bit old fashioned so naturally, my parents didn’t see any problem with out whole family still using flip phones in 2015. My parents finally given me the opportunity to upgrade to a smartphone but only if I could find a suitable phone plan that would provide us with the more exclusive features we desired at a reasonale price. I examined about 30 different phone plans, comparing not only what each plan was providing but also the carrier, their customer service, and their coverage. After a week, I found a phone plan that allowed my whole family smartphones, new and exciting features, and most surprisingly, a 60 dollar decrease in our monthly
But there are many reasons why phones are good like it gives you updates with the weather, news, and other stuff. In most ways there convenient to people unless your not doing anything stupid on them like posting mean stuff on social media, or driving while on
Teacher: Why are you on your phone Jimmy? Jimmy: I’m sorry Mrs. A I’ll put it away right now. Teacher: No, I have continuously asked you to please put your phone away. Give me your phone! Jimmy: Mrs. A please I promise it wont happen again. Teacher: No more texting or playing games you will get your phone back at the end of the day. Technology isn’t helping our society like it said it would in fact it’s hurting it. There is a long list of cons for technology like phones, tablets, and laptops/computers. For example, phones create a distraction and a barrier that prevents them from interacting with the world. Modern technology is just horrible for the adults and children around the world.
Always having a phone in your hand seems to give us great knowledge. If I have a question about anything, I just Google it. I can get an answer from how to spell a word to the biggest world questions. I have learned a lot of information about random topics that pop into my head. One day I really wanted to learn how to knit a scarf, and I was able to search the Internet on my phone to show me how to do it. The Internet has helped me with medical issues such as a bee sting or a little cough. Also it helped a lot the time that I had fallen and twisted my ankle. I wanted to know what to do to help myself; the Internet had helped me a lot with finding the right place to go. The website I found told me that since it was all bruised I should go and get actual medical help. This website convinced my parents to take me to the hospital and the hospital is where we found out that I actually had broken my ankle. Cell phones have become mini computers and education has fallen because of this. “The only difference now between smartphones and laptops, they
Life is more simple with these wonderful devices, but we are becoming too lazy to pick up a book and learn things on our own. I feel like I and many of my classmates barley open a book for class, instead we use the internet for everything. This is becoming a serious issue. I feel that we are not expanding our minds like we used to back when technology was not as advanced. I remember back in middle school were the internet was available, but I did not let it take up time in my day. I found myself being more productive with my life back then. Now, I probably spent a fourth of my day using the internet, which is not necessary at all.
