The surprisingly low number of incidents recorded during rainy, snowy and icy weather may reflect increased attention to roadway conditions and lowered expectations by the driver.”
When people are on winter break, most want to go out and play in the snow, but who knew that the snow could be one's worst nightmare when stubbornness comes into play. Most people go out on an enjoyable snow-white day to sled down snowy hills and fling semi-hard snowballs at each other. No one would think that maybe sledding down the snowy hills could be so dangerous when they are having fun, and trying to show off. I certainly did not think that it was dangerous, but boy was I so wrong. Normally being a Los Angeles girl, going up to Big Bear is such an amazing experience, because down in the Los Angeles region it does not snow at all. However, I was not ready to face what was slowly going to change me in the mountains of California.
After you’ve embraced the fresh snow, get the neighbors. Ask them to come outside so that you can have an even better snow day with awesome snowball fights. The more neighbors you have, the better the day.
In Pennsylvania there is a lot of cold weather and snow. When it is cold outside the pavement in the streets or on paths through friendly neighbor hoods crack. These cracks do not make the pavement un-ridable or drivable. Unfortunately, it doesn’t make it very unsafe for someone without expertise in riding in these conditions. The roads and and pathways need to be redone or refilled in many communities to offer a safer and more efficient way of exercising or even safer driving roads.
The challenge posed here is to bring the viewer closer to the site and experience it’s every transformation. My proposed intervention introduces a series of winding pathways dedicated to pedestrian circulation. When walking through, the snow would obscure the view around each turn, revealing a new path. These pathways would be heated, as their main aim is to be functional in the winter, and would connect to the streets that surround it. The paths can be used either pragmatically, as a means to reach another destination. Or as a leisurely function to stroll down a winding path to the riverside. The snow mounds in turn would need to conform to these paths, and would be constricted horizontally. However they would still maintain its irregular shape, rising vertically each time snow is
As a high school athlete, I am busy during much of the year. Due to the commitment that I had to my sports teams, I could not sustain a regular job at a fast food restaurant or convenience store like many of my peers. With that being said, I did not let that stop me from maintaining a regular income. During December of freshman year, I decided that I was going to start a landscaping business. To do so, I created signs that would get my name out to my neighbors; these signs advertised my snow removal capabilities. Just as any new business, it took a few weeks to get calls about my services. As the northern Indiana winter set upon us, I received many calls about clearing driveways. I took into account the inconsistency in the amount of
You may be struggling to get everything packed in boxes before your movers arrive, but having a snow free path from your home to the moving truck is going to make things much easier.
Crunch! Crunch! Crunch! The snow sounded as I walked down the snowy white path. Winter, the perfect time to go ice skating, and that’s exactly what I was doing. The lake has frozen over and was covered with snow. Yesterday my dad went down there and shoveled a huge part of snow so we could ice skate. A mini skating rink, just for us, and completely free. It was around 11:00 am when I started walking down from the cabin we were renting.
“It must be Winter.” Responded by my roommate without hesitation.“The slushy weather could make the highway slippery which is really dangerous.”
When it snows everyone has their own preference of what they like to do with it. Some like to go outside and build a snowman or fort, some like to toss snowballs at one another, while some would rather be inside, next to a fireplace, while they watch the snow fall. For me, the snow’s greatest purpose is sledding. After the first big snow fall of the season, my siblings, my friend, Agata, and her sister, some neighbors, and I all gather at the dead end of my street to sled. One house down from my own is a gated area for collecting water. Technically, it is illegal to enter the area, but the gate is broken, allowing people to enter. The area has contains many hills and slopes that are perfect for sledding during the winter. Even though people are not supposed to go into the area many people in the neighborhood do when it snows, and we aren’t hurting or disturbing anything so it hasn’t been a problem. Sledding is always so much fun there. Everyone who gathers competes to create the steepest and most twisty slopes. Agata’s dad always creates huge
I was driving to school and I noticed that there was quite a bit of ice on the roads still. It had just snowed the night before and it started to melt but with the cold temperatures, the melted snow turned to ice. Ironic right? Well anyways, as I was closing in on the school, the ice really didn’t seem to go away. It was almost a constant sheet of ice from my house to the high school parking lot. As I was turning into the parking lot, I felt the back of my car fish-tail. It was kind of scary to say the least. I found my usual spot. It didn’t look too icy so a parked.
Driveway & Sidewalk Trouble: When a clog prevents water to flow smoothly through the gutters, it can overflow into your driveway and get absorbed in the cracks. In cold weather, the water in these tiny pockets expands upon freezing, and widens them significantly. Consequently, your driveway appears broken down and requires heavy repairs. Additionally, if the misdirected water freezes on your sidewalks and driveways, it can become a potential safety hazard.
