What exactly is a social issue or social problem in our society? By definition, a social issue is a social issue (also called a social problem or s social illness or even an even a social conflict) refers to an issue that influences and is opposed by considerable number of individuals within a society. It is often consequence of factors extending beyond an individual’s control and local geographical environment (Dictionary reference, 2015). Social issues have lingered in our American History since the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776. During this time our founding fathers were debating on which man will be considered equal, discussing the social issues of slavery to name a few. As time has passed and social issues have arose, we sit here in 2015 in the United States where we are yet again subject to another social issue; that is police brutality and the use of body cameras. This is a subject of accountability of all parties across the globe.
The renewed debate on the roles, scope and authority of the Police in America. The first voice in this social issue is the ones that defend the actions and means of today’s police and their procedures and protocol. The second voice in this social issue is the ones that believe that a majority of the encounters that police are having with individuals are excessive and over the line regardless of the situation and defined by many as police brutality.
